Eagles coach Nick Sirianni confirms Rodney McLeod will make his season debut vs. Chiefs

A team that just lost a leader on defense is getting reinforcements back, as Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed that Rodney McLeod will be active and make his season debut against the Chiefs on Sunday.

McLeod was a full participant in practice Thursday and the Eagles’ veteran safety, hasn’t played since tearing his ACL during a game against the Saints at the Linc on Dec. 13. McLeod missed all of training camp, was finally activated off the PUP list in late August.

Darius Slay hints at Rodney McLeod likely missing Eagles season opener at Atlanta

Darius Slay hints at Rodney McLeod missing Eagles season opener at Atlanta while continues to be cautious with his surgically repaired ACL

The Eagles didn’t put Rodney McLeod on the PUP list or injured reserve, so he won’t miss the first six weeks of the regular season.

It does appear that Philadelphia’s captain and veteran safety will miss the season opener at Atlanta on Sunday.

During his Wednesday media session before practice, Darius Slay hinted at McLeod not making the trip.

Three things to expect with Rodney McLeod sidelined with an ACL tear

The Eagles secondary will look very different; here are three things we expect to see in the coming weeks and months with McLeod out.

The Eagles will be without their captain and starting safety Rodney McLeod for the remainder of the season, and likely the beginning of next season, as he recovers from a torn ACL.

The secondary found itself in shambles on Sunday afternoon as McLeod, Darius Slay, and Avonte Maddox were all sidelined with various injuries. With Maddox and McLeod surely missing time and Slay in concussion protocol the team will have some adjustments to make on the backend. Here are three things to expect with the team missing at least two of four starting defensive backs.

Eagles’ S Rodney McLeod out for the remainder of the season with torn ACL

Eagles’ S Rodney McLeod out for the remainder of the season with torn ACL

The Eagles will be without starting safety and team captain Rodney McLeod after Doug Pederson confirmed he tore his ACL against the Saints.

McLeod had an MRI Monday morning after suffering a non-contact left knee injury five minutes into the third quarter and did not return to the game along with Darius Slay.

Similar to Malcolm Jenkins, McLeod has logged 1,948 Eagles defensive snaps over the last two years and was the only player on either side of the ball who hadn’t missed a snap this year.

The Eagles could also be without Avonte Maddox (knee) and Darius Slay (concussion) after already being without Cre’Von LeBlanc and Craig James, who are on Injured Reserve.

The injuries leave Philadelphia with three available safties for the Week 15 matchup with the Cardinals: Jalen Mills, rookie K’Von Wallace, and special teamer Marcus Epps.
