Every Georgia Bulldog on the Philadelphia Eagles

How many former Georgia stars are on the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster after the NFL draft?

The Philadelphia Eagles have the most Georgia Bulldogs on their respective roster of any team in the NFL. The Eagles have selected five Georgia Bulldogs over the past two NFL drafts. Additionally, Philadelphia traded for former Georgia star running back D’Andre Swift during the draft.

Now, the Eagles have six former Georgia Bulldogs on their roster. Is it time for Georgia fans to cheer for Philadelphia? It is hard to cheer against a team with this many Georgia Bulldogs.

Philadelphia is fresh off a Super Bowl appearance and has loaded up on talent to make another run in 2023. Several former Georgia Bulldogs are expected to start for the defending NFC champions.

Report: Georgia co-DC speaking with Philadelphia Eagles

Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator coach Glenn Schumann is speaking with the Philadelphia Eagles about their open DC role

Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann is speaking with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding their open defensive coordinator role.

Schumann is a key reason why Georgia has won back-to-back national championships. He is a young and talented coach. Schumann has coached with Kirby Smart for the majority of his coaching career. He has been a piece of six national championship winning teams.

Glenn Schumann has been Georgia’s co-defensive coordinator since when Mel Tucker left Georgia in 2019. He assumed a larger role last season after Dan Lanning accepted the head coaching job at the University of Georgia.

Jonathon Gannon, who is now the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, was previously the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles under head coach Nick Sirianni.

If Glenn Schumann takes a job with another team, then Georgia will likely promote within and have Will Muschamp be the defensive coordinator. Muschamp is already Georgia’s co-defensive coordinator.

Eagles Wire has a list of potential candidates that Schumann is expected be competing against.

Why are college coaches darting for the NFL these days? The complications of name, image and likeness along with the packed recruiting calendar makes it a yearlong grind for coaches.

If Glenn Schumann joins the Eagles, then he would be reunited with Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis.

Dan Matthews, of 680 The Fan in Atlanta, reported the news of Schumann’s talk with the Eagles.

Watch: Jordan Davis dominates NFL OL in drill with bull rush

Philadelphia Eagles rookie Jordan Davis used a dominant bull rush that went viral

Former Georgia Bulldog star Jordan Davis is ready to dominate interior linemen at the next level. The Philadelphia Eagles selected Davis in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. So far, the Eagles have not been disappointed in the massive defensive tackle.

In a practice open to the public Jordan Davis dominated rookie Cam Jurgens, a second round pick, in a one-on-one drill. NFL teams may want to send a send blocker to help on Jordan Davis particularly if they are trying to run the ball.

Jordan Davis anchored some impressive run defenses during his time at the University of Georgia. He’s expected to receive a lot of early playing time with the Eagles.

Here’s a look at Jordan Davis’ dominant bull rush that went viral (caution: strong language in video):

Jordan Davis is already a fan favorite. Videos like this only add to his allure and likeability.

A former Wisconsin LB earns NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors

A former Badger makes a game-changing play in the NFL’s Week 5

After coming up with the biggest play of the Eagles’ 21-18 win over the Panthers on Sunday, former Wisconsin LB T.J. Edwards was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Late in the fourth quarter with his Philadelphia team trailing by one score, Edwards blocked the first punt of his NFL career to give the Eagles excellent field position for what turned into the game-winning drive. The Big Ten actually swept NFC awards in Week 5, as Michigan’s Tom Brady took home NFC Offensive Player of the Week and Ohio State’s Marshon Lattimore was awarded defensive honors.

Edwards had a pair of solo tackles and three assisted tackles to go along with his blocked punt in the win.

Doak Walker preseason watch list includes two Georgia running backs

The Doak Walker Award, given annually to college football’s best running back, recently released its 2021 preseason watch list.

The Doak Walker Award, given annually to college football’s best running back, recently released its 2021 preseason watch list.

Two veteran Georgia ball carriers, Zamir White and James Cook, both made the list.

Zamir “Zeus” White came to Athens as a five-star recruit. White was the top-rated RB prospect in the class of 2018 despite tearing his ACL in the high school playoffs as a senior. White tore it again before his first season at Georgia in 2018. White took a redshirt that season, so he is only a junior despite this being his fourth season in Athens.

Zeus was the co-winner of David Jacobs Award for overcoming injury during the 2019 season along with quarterback D’Wan Mathis. White changed the script in 2019, when he stayed healthy en route to 408 rushing yards on 78 carries.

White started at running back for all 10 of Georgia’s games in 2020. White is a physical running back who can remain upright through a lot of contact. He finished the 2020 season with 779 rushing yards on 144 carries.

Cook is projected to start for the Dawgs in obvious passing situations. Cook, who was Georgia’s fourth-leading receiver last season, finished his 2020 campaign with 16 catches for 225 yards.

He is Todd Monken’s most versatile back. He can run between the tackles and is a mismatch for linebackers in the passing game. Cook ran for 303 yards on 45 carries in eight games in 2020. He may be Georgia’s best 2022 NFL draft prospect at the running back position. NFL teams put great value on versatile running backs with less tread on their tires.

This season, he’ll compete with Zamir White, Kenny McIntosh, Daijun Edwards, and Kendall Milton for carries. Cook gave the Dawgs a boost when he decided to return to Athens for another season.

Eagles elevate former Georgia RB to active roster

The Philadelphia Eagles have elevated a former Georgia football RB to the active roster.

The Philadelphia Eagles, in need of extra depth at the running back position, have elevated a former Georgia Bulldog to the active roster.

Elijah Holyfield, who spent the 2019 season on the Panthers’ practice squad, has been pulled up from the Eagles’ practice squad. Holyfield was signed to the Eagles’ active roster ahead of the Wild Card matchup with the Seahawks last year but was inactive.

On Sunday, Holyfield will make his NFL debut against Nick Chubb and the Browns.

TBT – Luke Kuechly’s Oddly Consistent Production vs. Notre Dame

Kuechly and Boston College went 0-3 in three games against Notre Dame between 2009 and 2011.  However, Kuechly’s stat-line in those three games was incredibly consistent.

The biggest story in the NFL this week aside from preparation for the AFC and NFC Conference Championship games has been the sudden decision by Carolina Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly to retire.

Kuechly was a terror for the Panthers, twice leading the league in tackles while averaging 136.5 per season for his eight year career, intercepting 18 passes in his career and averaging more than half a tackle-for-loss each game he suited up for.

His NFL resume includes seven Pro Bowl selections, five appearances as a first-team All-Pro, three Butkus Awards and he was the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year.

It’s easy to forget but in no way a surprise, Kuechly was a monster on an otherwise entirely-forgettable Boston College team that went 19-19 in his three seasons in Chestnut Hill (2009-11).

During his time at BC, Kuechly walked away with the 2011 ACC Defensive Player of the Year award, as well as the Bronco Nagurski, Butkus, Lombardi and Lott Trophy Awards the same season.  To boot he was a two-time Consensus All-American.

Kuechly and Boston College went 0-3 in three games against Notre Dame between 2009 and 2011.  However, Kuechly’s stat-line in those three games was incredibly consistent.

2009:  Notre Dame 20, Boston College 16 at Notre Dame Stadium
Kuechly – 14 tackles (7 solo, 7 assists), 1 tackle for loss, 1 pass defended

2010:  Notre Dame 31, Boston College 13 at Alumni Stadium
Kuechly – 14 tackles, (7 solo, 7 assists), 1 tackle for loss

2011:  Notre Dame 16, Boston College 14 at Notre Dame Stadium
Kuechly – 14 tackles (7 solo, 7 assists), 1 tackle for loss, 1 pass defended

I’m not a mathmatician but it’s pretty easy to figure out his averages in those three games.  So easy in fact that I’ll let you do it yourselves.

Congrats on one helluva career, Luke.
