With a bevy of talent returning and a new offensive coordinator at the helm, how many wins is DraftKings forecasting for Texas A&M next season?
There’s no better time to put your faith in Texas A&M football after DraftKings recently unveiled a handful of betting odds for the Aggies and other Power Five programs, including the over/under for 2023 wins.
The sportsbook lists the Aggies’ win total for the coming season at 7.5, with the over odds at -120 and the under at +100. Texas A&M is tied with Arkansas and Ole Miss for the fifth-highest win total line in the SEC.
Unsurprisingly, the programs that clock in ahead of the Maroon and White include Georgia (11.5), Alabama (10.5), LSU (9.5), and Tennessee (9.5). Mississippi State (6.5), Auburn (6.5), South Carolina (6.5), Kentucky (6.5), Missouri (6.5), Florida (5.5), and Vanderbilt (3.5) sit behind the Aggies with respective lower win totals per DraftKings.
As Texas A&M looks to rebound from their 5-7 season a year ago, they’ll have ample opportunities to make some noise against the heavy hitters in the SEC. The Aggies face both Tennessee (Oct 14) and LSU (Nov 25) on the road this season, while welcoming the Crimson Tide to Kyle Field for a seismic matchup on October 7.
The sportsbook also set the betting line for five of the Aggies’ matchups this season including four against SEC competition. Texas A&M is the favorite against Arkansas (-3) but the underdog versus Alabama (+9.5), at Ole Miss (+3.5), and at LSU (+10.5).
Much has been made about the immense pressure on Jimbo Fisher and their newly-hired offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. But the cynics and talking heads should only provide more whiteboard material for an Aggies team that flashed its promise down the stretch of the 2022 season.
A&M sees the return of sophomore Conner Weigman, who threw for 896 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception in five games last season. A promising wide receiver group headlined by star second-year Evan Stewart has a case to be made for the best in the nation after seeing the return of senior Ainias Smith, who rejoins the likes of Moose Muhammad III.
Additionally, a defense that was supported by a number of true freshmen ranked 25th in the country in points allowed (21.1 PPG) last season and should take another leap forward after ending their year on a high note with a massive upset over No. 5 LSU.
There are too many promising signs to write off the Aggies before the 2023 season begins. The talent level on the roster, coupled with high hopes for a rejuvenated offense under Petrino, should make the Maroon and White an enticing pick to make noise in the coming season.
