Rutgers basketball: Dylan Harper scores 26 points to lead Don Bosco to a title

Dylan Harper wins a title with Don Bosco Prep on Friday night.

Playing on his future home court, Dylan Harper led Don Bosco Prep to the win in the Non-Public A state final on Friday night. The 56-29 win by Don Bosco over Paul VI showcased a dominant Harper, who signed with Rutgers basketball last week.

Harper nearly outscored Paul VI on his own, putting up 26 points as Don Bosco won a state title at Jersey Mike’s Arena. A five-star guard who committed to Rutgers in December, Harper was recently named the sixth-best recruit in the nation by USA TODAY High School Sports.

The Ironmen finished the season with 18 consecutive wins and a 28-3 record. Harper’s performance against a solid Paul VI side was vintage stuff from the guard prospect.

In addition to his 26 points, Harper had nine rebounds and four assists:

Expected to join Rutgers over the summer, Harper is part of a class with some very high expectations at Rutgers.

Also in this class is four-star forward/center Lathan Sommerville, who is having a very strong playoff run in Illinois.

Watch: Rutgers basketball’s 5-star commit Dylan Harper is impressive with this putback dunk

Rutgers basketball commit Dylan Harper has a quiet game but made an impressive play for Don Bosco Prep.

Dylan Haper’s latest highlight is one that might be seen in a video game. This time, the Rutgers basketball commit almost nonchalantly puts back a rebound with a two-handed dunk this past Saturday.

A five-star guard, Harper committed to Rutgers in December. He is having a strong year for Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, New Jersey), averaging 22.7 points per game in 11 games played.

Harper is the No. 2 recruit in the nation according to ESPN.

The highlight sees Harper follow a three-point shot from teammate Jordan Ghee, jump, get the rebound and put it back with a two-handed dunk. Good instincts from Harper on the play while also showing a flash of his explosiveness.

Harper had a quieter game on Saturday, scoring nine points in Don Bosco’s 62-45 win over Paul VI (Haddonfield, New Jersey).

Despite injuries this season, Harper is still looking strong. He is one of two five-star commits in the Rutgers 2024 class, joining forward [autotag]Ace Baile[/autotag]y from McEachern (Powder Springs, Georgia).

Ranked the No. 3 player in the nation, Bailey is having a very strong season. Harper and Bailey are the two highest commits in Rutgers basketball history.

Rutgers basketball: How did Dylan Harper do in his return to the court?

Dylan Harper returns and looks sharp for Don Bosco.

Dylan Harper is back, the five-star recruit and Rutgers basketball commit making his return to the court. And what a return it was.

Harper, out the past two weeks with an injury, returned on Thursday night. He scored 21 points to key Don Bosco to 60-46 win over Bergen Catholic. Harper was the leading scorer in the game and also had two steals.

He last played on Dec. 27.

In his five games prior to his injury, Harper was averaging 29.0 points per game. The 6-foot-5 guard committed to Rutgers in December at an event held in New York City at the Fanatics headquarters.

He also signed an NIL deal with Fanatics at that event.

Harper is the highest-ranked player to ever commit to Rutgers. He is the second-highest-ranked recruit in the nation according to ESPN.com.

Rutgers football offers Don Bosco Prep standout Mikahi Allen

Mikahi Allen gets his first offer from Rutgers football.

Rutgers football sent out an offer over the weekend to Mikahi Allen, who is one of the top underclassmen products in the state.

The safety prospect is a true freshman who is already making an impact for one of the top programs in the state. It has been a busy month for Allen, who also was offered by Virginia Tech and Penn State.

Allen also plays basketball for Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.). He is listed at 6-foot-1, 209 pounds.

He tweeted about the offer from Rutgers on Saturday:

Greg Schiano checks out Erasmus Hall at Don Bosco Prep

Greg Schiano made the trip north to see Don Bosco Prep host Erasmus Hall.

Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano was at Friday night’s game between Erasmus Hall at Don Bosco Prep. It was the biggest game of the weekend in the tri-state area.

Erasmus Hall features defensive lineman [autotag]Aaris Bethea[/autotag], a Rutgers football commit. Also on that defensive line is [autotag]Caden Brown[/autotag], who holds a Rutgers football offer and was on campus in late July for an unofficial visit.

Playing at home, Don Bosco won the game 31-6. The Ironmen were up 24-0 at halftime.

Schiano was afforded the chance to see the Friday night game due to his weekend work schedule being different than usual. With the Rutgers season opener on Sunday, Schiano had a day that he could spend recruiting:

Erasmus Hall has become a pipeline program to Rutgers in recent years, with a number of top prospects heading to Piscataway. Don Bosco Prep is one of the top high school programs in the national and traditionally churns out multiple FBS players each season.

Rutgers opens the season on Sunday with a game against Northwestern at SHI Stadium. Tom McCarthy and Jason McCourty, a former standout Rutgers defensive back, will have the call on CBS.

During his official visit to Rutgers football, four-star Jordan Thomas announces his top 12 programs

Don Bosco Prep’s Jordan Thomas announces his top 12 with Rutgers football making the cut.

Rutgers football made the cut for Jordan Thomas, the top player in New Jersey’s 2024 recruiting class. It is a good thing that the Scarlet Knights made Thomas’ top 12, as the four-star defensive lineman is currently on an official visit at Rutgers.

If not, things could have gotten all sorts of awkward for the Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) standout.

Thomas included Rutgers in his top 12, putting the Scarlet Knights alongside some pretty stiff competition. This includes two other Big Ten schools (Michigan and Penn State) as well as seven SEC programs.

In an interesting twist, the 12 programs posted by Thomas went live at 5:23 PM ET on Friday afternoon, right as his official visit at Rutgers was getting started.

Thomas is a monster recruit. He is a consensus four-star player according to ESPN.com where he is also the top-ranked recruit in New Jersey and the No. 83 recruit overall. ESPN also ranks him as the sixth-best interior defensive lineman in the nation.

[lawrence-related id=27385]

Able to shoot hands inside. Has lower body strength to win rep even when off balance. Can scrape and get to second level. Patient in pass pro and has strong initial punch.”

OT Recruit Chase Bisontis Latest to Get Offer From Notre Dame

Jeff Quinn continues to be on the move to build Notre Dame’s offensive line for the future.

Jeff Quinn continues to be on the move to build Notre Dame’s offensive line for the future. This week, we’ve already seen an offer for Tyler Booker from Florida. Now, we have one from Chase Bisontis, an offensive tackle from Ramsey, New Jersey, who just completed his sophomore season at Don Bosco Prep and weighs in at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds. This could amount to a couple of solid gets from Quinn in the same recruiting class.

Bisontis has lured offers from 19 schools thus far. Among those vying for his services in a couple of years are Florida State, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Arkansas and West Virginia. Brian Dohn of 247Sports projects him as a starter with an elite Power Five program. Based on the programs already looking at him when he’s not even a high school upperclassman yet, that’s sure to become a reality, and we naturally hope he’ll pick the Irish.
