4 recruits to pay attention to before signing day for Michigan State football

4 recruits to monitor as the late signing period approaches:

Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith has made it known that the late signing period was going to be used by Michigan State to aid their 2024 recruiting class, and they are doing just that.

There is one position group that the staff is really focused on, and that is the defensive line, pursuing multiple prospects on the defensive front.

Along with the defensive line, the Spartans picked up commitments from kicker Martin Connington and wide receiver Jaylan Brown, who are expected to sign without hiccups.

Now, all the attention turns to four prospects as the official end of the 2024 recruiting cycle nears:

Michigan State football getting OV from Auburn defensive line commit

MSU will be hosting an Auburn DT commit on an official visit this weekend:

As part of Michigan State’s coaching staffs recruiting plan to round out the 2024 cycle, defensive tackle and Auburn commit Dimitry Nicolas will be visiting East Lansing on an official visit.

Nicolas is a Opa Locka (FL) native, attending Norland High School. He is ranked as a high 3-star prospect as a 6’3″, 295 pound defensive tackle.

Ranking every SEC recruiting class after the early signing period

Auburn has the No. 7 class after the first day of the early signing period, here is how their class compares to the rest of the SEC.

It was another successful start to the early signing period for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Auburn Tigers.

They pulled off their fifth flip of the 2024 recruiting cycle: four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Amaris Williams[/autotag], who flipped his commitment from Florida.

They lost three-star tight end [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag], but the two sides have been headed in opposite directions for quite some time and his departure was expected. They signed 22 players, and [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag] was the only commit not to sign.

The moves give Auburn the No. 7 class in the 247Sports team composite. It is the first time it has cracked the top 10 since 2020 when [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag] inked the No. 7 overall class.

However, the SEC is the best conference in the sport for a reason, and it starts with their recruiting. Here is a look at how Auburn’s class compares to the rest of the conference.

Tracking the Tigers: Where Auburn’s commits will play in Week 4

A matchup between Perry Thompson and Bryce Cain highlights this week’s matchups.

It is nearly time for another slate of high school football games and several Auburn commits have some exciting matchups.

The top game will be the showdown between wide receiver commits [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag]. Cain and Baker are traveling to Foley with a 3-0 record and looking to keep their offense humming.

All but three of Auburn’s commits had games this week with only [autotag] DeAndre Cater[/autotag] (Mater Dei) and [autotag]Malcolm Simmons[/autotag] (Benjamin Russell) having byes. Cornerback commit [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag] is set to miss some time after announcing on Thursday that he underwent surgery for a dislocated knee cap.

Two of Auburn’s commits suited up on Thursday instead of on Friday and went 1-1. [autotag]Kensley Fasutin[/autotag] and Naples suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 3-1. [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag] and Norlan improved to 4-0 with a 42-7 win over Monsignor Pace. Stats for both games have not been released yet.

Here is a look at where the rest of Auburn’s commits will be playing this week.

Social media reacts to Auburn landing defensive lineman Dimitry Nicolas

The fanbase was ecstatic about Auburn’s newest addition to the 2024 recruiting class.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn have landed yet another key target on the recruiting trail. This time it was defensive lineman [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag], who picked the Tigers over Florida and Miami Friday.

He is the third defensive lineman that Auburn has landed in the 2024 recruiting cycle and gives them 17 commits overall.

Nicolas projects to be an interior player when he gets to Auburn and is already listed at 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds, making him the heaviest of Auburn’s commits by 20 pounds.

The addition of Nicolas fired up the Auburn fans and coaches, who took to social media to celebrate, here are some of the top reactions.

How Dimitry Nicolas’ commitment affects Auburn’s 2024 recruiting ranking

Auburn is inching closer to a top-10 ranking after filling a key need on Friday.

Auburn football filled a key need within its 2024 recruiting class on Friday.

Three-star defensive lineman [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag] announced his commitment to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers on Friday, choosing Auburn over Florida, Miami, and Pittsburgh.

Although there are a few days remaining in August, Nicolas’ commitment is a fitting way to end the month for Auburn on the recruiting trail. In August, Auburn landed three commitments for the 2024 cycle, and another to their 2025 haul.

Nicolas joins four-star DL [autotag]TJ Lindsey[/autotag] and four-star CB [autotag]Jalewis Solomon[/autotag] as recruits to announce their pledges to Auburn this month, bringing the total number of commits to 16. Auburn has been on a tear lately, but they will still need to continue working to increase their total number of commits. Missouri, Kentucky, and South Carolina have fewer commits than Auburn, while Mississippi State and Texas boast the same number of commits as Auburn.

Following the commitment of three-star DL Dimitry Nicolas, here is a look at where Auburn stacks up with the rest of the SEC.

Three-star DL Dimitry Nicolas announces commitment to Auburn

The high-priority defensive lineman commits to Auburn over Florida, Miami, and Pittsburgh.

One of Auburn’s top defensive line targets has announced his pledge to [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Tigers.

[autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag], a three-star defensive tackle from Miami, Florida, announced his commitment to Auburn on Friday, choosing the Tigers over Miami, Florida, and Pittsburgh.

Nicolas has been a top priority for Auburn since extending an offer to him on Aug. 22 of last year. His stock has risen over the last week due to Kamarion Franklin’s commitment to Ole Miss.

Nicolas was on hand for Big Cat Weekend and told On3 that Auburn made him feel at home. He has also built a relationship with defensive line coach, Jeremy Garrett.

“Coach Garrett is a good, genuine guy,” Nicolas tells On3. “We have had a lot of conversations since Big Cat. We talk almost every day. He’s also had a couple of conversations with my mom. My mom likes his energy, the vibes he gives off. He just seems like a good, young guy.”

Nicolas is a three-star defensive lineman according to all major recruiting outlets. He is the No. 45 defensive lineman of the 2024 class according to 247Sports, and he is the No. 72 overall player from the state of Florida.

Auburn DL target Dimitry Nicolas to announce commitment Friday

He will be picking between Auburn, Miami, Florida and Pittsburgh.

Defensive lineman [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag] is ready to announce his commitment, the three-star prospect has moved his commitment date to Friday and he will be picking between Auburn, Miami, Florida and Pittsburgh.

“Yeah I’m just trying to get it out of the way,” Nicolas told Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente. “I’m ready.”

Nicolas was in Auburn for Big Cat Weekend and said the way Auburn has treated him “more like family than a player” is what has them in his final group.

He is the No.  545 overall player and No. 54 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Opa Locka product is also the No. 74 player from Florida.

If he picks Auburn, he would be their 17th commit overall and third commit along the defensive line, joining four-star prospects [autotag]TJ Lindsey[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Blocton[/autotag].

Florida hosting a ton of blue-chip talent in final January recruiting weekend

The Gators are hosting one final recruiting weekend before the February dead period goes into effect.

The college football recruiting dead period begins on Monday and lasts all the way through February, so Florida is closing out January by hosting a ton of blue-chip recruits on Saturday for the final Junior Day of the month.

Several prospects have confirmed their plans to attend the event, and it’s safe to say that this is the biggest recruiting weekend of the month for the program. To make that even more clear, five-star quarterback [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] will be in town to help recruit for his future school.

Perhaps the biggest name in town not under commitment will be five-star running back [autotag]Jerrick Gibson[/autotag], who is ranked No. 11 overall in the class of 2024 on the On3 consensus and No. 10 on the 247Sports composite. Florida is an attractive landing spot for any running back with Billy Napier at the helm, and landing the top back in the class would be huge for the Gators.

On defense, linebacker/edge rusher [autotag]Adarius Hayes[/autotag] might be the top name set to visit at No. 55 overall on the On3 consensus. Lagway will be in his ear this weekend, and Hayes is already sweet on Florida. He won’t be the only top-100 defender in town, though. Florida State defensive back commit [autotag]Jordan Pride[/autotag] (No. 80) and undecided edge rusher [autotag]KingJoseph Edwards[/autotag] (No. 37) are also planning on visiting the Swamp this weekend.

A slew of four-star recruits from the class of 2024 will be in town as well. Linebacker [autotag]Qua Birdsong[/autotag] (No. 157), offensive tackle [autotag]Blake Frazier[/autotag] (No. 273), athlete [autotag]Lawayne McCoy[/autotag] (No. 298) and safety [autotag]Zavier Mincey[/autotag] (No. 333) are slated to stop by. Offensive tackle [autotag]Barry Walker[/autotag] (No. 383), defensive linemen [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag] (No. 355) and [autotag]LJ McCray[/autotag] (No. 401) and offensive tackle [autotag]Nyier Daniels[/autotag] (No. 541) round out the three-stars on the On3 consensus visiting, and more could join as the day goes on.

Interior offensive lineman [autotag]Santana Alo-Tupuola[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Semaj Jackson[/autotag] are three-star recruits by 247Sports’ individual measure but have no On3 consensus ranking yet. Jackson is ranked No. 679 overall on the 247Sports composite.

Finally, from the class of 2025, quarterback Tramel Jones, wide receiver Koby Howard (Sunday), defensive lineman Myron Charles, edge rushers [autotag]Jared Smith[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylon Worthen[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Ethan Prichard[/autotag] are expected in town.
