Auburn fans react to landing All-American kicker Towns McGough over Ole Miss

Auburn beat out Ole Miss for Towns McGough and made sure that Lane Kiffin knew about it.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn won another big recruiting battle Thursday when they signed kicker Towns McGough, who is from Auburn.

McGough is fresh off a sensational senior season in which he went 19-of-22 on field goal attempts and connected on six kicks of 50 yards or longer. He was named an All-American by both MaxPreps and Under Armour.

He turned down a scholarship offer from Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss to accept a preferred walk-on spot at Auburn. The decision sets himself up as Auburn’s next kicker after Alex McPherson moves on, freeing a scholarship spot for McGough.

Kiffin seemed to believe that McGough would sign with the Rebels and took to social media to celebrate on Wednesday. That ended up not happening and Auburn fans did not pass up the chance to celebrate the big win and fire back at Kiffin, here is a look at the best responses.

Ranking every SEC recruiting class after the early signing period

Auburn has the No. 7 class after the first day of the early signing period, here is how their class compares to the rest of the SEC.

It was another successful start to the early signing period for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Auburn Tigers.

They pulled off their fifth flip of the 2024 recruiting cycle: four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Amaris Williams[/autotag], who flipped his commitment from Florida.

They lost three-star tight end [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag], but the two sides have been headed in opposite directions for quite some time and his departure was expected. They signed 22 players, and [autotag]Dimitry Nicolas[/autotag] was the only commit not to sign.

The moves give Auburn the No. 7 class in the 247Sports team composite. It is the first time it has cracked the top 10 since 2020 when [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag] inked the No. 7 overall class.

However, the SEC is the best conference in the sport for a reason, and it starts with their recruiting. Here is a look at how Auburn’s class compares to the rest of the conference.

Originally from Nigeria, Edwin is listed at 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds. The only linemen on Auburn’s roster who are the same size are Gunner Britton and Tyler Johnson, who are also 6-foot-6.

In-state safety Kaleb Harris signs with Auburn

Kaleb Harris has the ability to play all over for Auburn’s defense.

Coming off an extremely successful high school career at Thompson, three-star safety [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag] has signed his letter of intent with the Auburn Tigers.

Listed as a safety, Harris can play several spots for [autotag]Rob Roberts[/autotag]’ defense, he has the physicality to play a linebacker role near the line of scrimmage as well as helping out in coverage as a safety or at star.

That versatility will be critical in a secondary that is losing all four of its starters at safety and cornerback to the NFL. The only returning starter is star [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag], who will be transitioning to outside corner. Harris is not as highly rated as some of Auburn’s signees in the secondary but he has the ability to push for early playing time and will be a name to watch next season.

Harris is the No. 646 overall player and No. 69 safety in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 32 player from Alabama.

Four-star WR Malcolm Simmons signs with Auburn

Malcolm Simmons is officially an Auburn Tiger.

[autotag]Malcolm Simmons[/autotag] is officially an Auburn Tiger.

The dynamic athlete signed his letter of intent with Auburn on Wednesday as a key member of Auburn’s impressive haul at wide receiver. The Tigers have signed five-stars [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] and [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag] with four-star [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] expected to be announced soon.

When Simmons committed to Auburn in July he was a three-star athlete but after a great season for Benjamin Russell and a strong showing at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, he shot up the ranking and is now a four-star prospect.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder caught 60 passes for 1,279 yards and 14 touchdowns in 12 games as a senior.

He is now the No. 240 overall player and No. 41 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Alexander City product is also the No. 15 player in Alabama.

4-star QB Walker White signs national letter of intent with Auburn

Four-star quarterback Walker White is officially an Auburn Tiger.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] has landed his quarterback.

Four-star quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag] has sent in his national letter of intent and is officially an Auburn Tiger. The Arkansas native committed to Auburn back in February, picking them over Clemson in a shocker.

Ever since committing, he has been actively recruiting for the Tigers and helping to assemble Auburn’s recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 11 in the 247Sports team ranking but has a shot to shoot up the rankings with several big targets set to make their final decisions.

White is the No. 151 overall player and No. 11 quarterback in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 3 player from Arkansas.

He is the highest-ranked quarterback Auburn has landed since Bo Nix signed with the Tigers back in 2019.

White led Arkansas Little Rock Christian Academy to the Arkansas 6A title game as a senior, completing 63% ( 164-261) of his passes for 2,660 yards and 29 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. A willing runner, he added 534 yards and 8 touchdowns with his legs.

4-star DL Malik Blocton signs letter of intent with Auburn

Malik Blocton is Auburn’s first signee of the day.

[autotag]Malik Blocton[/autotag] is Auburn’s first signee of the 2024 recruiting class, with Auburn announcing he had signed his national letter of intent Wednesday morning.

He is coming off of a dominant senior season for Pike Road, where he recorded 118 tackles, 30 tackles for a loss, 14.0 sacks and 21 quarterback hurries in 14 games. The younger brother of former Auburn star [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag], Blocton held his signing ceremony on Dec. 11 but couldn’t officially sign until the early signing period opened on Wednesday.

He is the No. 411 overall player and No. 46 defensive lineman in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 23 player from Alabama.

At 6-foot-4 and 275-pounds he has the size and strength to play along the interior of the defensive line for [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] but also has the athleticism and speed to line up at defensive end. With Auburn lacking numbers across the defensive line, that versatility is key and could lead to some early playing time, even though it is tough for true freshmen to play along the lines.
