Alabama lands in top three for 2023 SF Devin Royal

Tide Hoops in the mix to land an impressive 2023 prospect out of Ohio!

Coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the rest of the Alabama coaching staff have done an excellent job of recruiting over the past few years. The main focus of the coaching staff has been to recruit players that fit the Tide’s system. One of the recruits that seems like a fit in Coach Oats’ system is 2023 small forward Devin Royal.

On Friday, Royal narrowed down his list of finalists to three schools — Michigan State, Ohio State  and Alabama. The native of Pickerington, Ohio announced the news via his Twitter page. Royal has yet to make an official visit to Alabama. However, that could be something that comes to fruition in the near future.

On the other hand, he has taken an official visit to both Michigan State and Ohio State. As of right now, the Buckeyes are heavily favored by On3’s RPM to land Royal at 85.9% likelihood.

When Royal was asked about why he included Alabama as a finalist by On3’s Joe Tipton, here is what he had to say:

“I really like their playstyle. I have a really good relationship with the head coach and the whole coaching staff.”

Royal stands at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds according to 247Sports. With that size, he is somewhat similar to former Alabama star Josh Primo. Alabama is making a push to land the highest-rated recruit from Ohio, but it won’t be easy. We will have to wait and see how Royal’s recruitment unfolds in the coming months. As for now, Alabama fans will have to sit and wait.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to track Royal’s recruitment as well as other Alabama basketball recruiting news.

MSU target, 2023 4-star Ohio SF Devin Royal to release top 3 list this week

One of the Spartans’ top targets in the 2023 recruiting cycle will release his top three schools list later this week

One of the Spartans’ top targets in the 2023 recruiting cycle will release his top three schools list later this week.

Four-star small forward Devin Royal of Pickerington, Ohio announced on Monday that he’s going drop his “top 3” on Friday. This is presumed to be his top three schools list.

Royal ranks as the No. 76 overall prospect and No. 14 small forward in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2023 class. He’s also listed as the No. 2 player from Ohio in the class.

Last week, Royal released his top nine schools which included Michigan State. The Spartans were joined by Alabama, Clemson, Marquette, Michigan, Miami (FL), Ole Miss, Ohio State and Penn State.

It was great to see Michigan State make Royal’s first cut of schools but Friday’s update will be the true announcement Spartans fans should be excited to see. He has been a top priority for Michigan State this recruiting cycle so hopefully that pays off with the Spartans making his top three this week.

2023 basketball target Devin Royal drops top schools, Alabama in the mix

Alabama named as one of the top schools for 2023 small forward Devin Royal.

Alabama basketball has recently established a foundation for success, and it has primarily come from the recruiting trail. Over the last few years, head coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] has been able to haul in some of the best recruiting classes in the entire country. He hopes to carry his recent success by adding an even more impressive 2023 recruiting class. One of the Tide’s top targets, Devin Royal, recently announced his top schools. Alabama was one of the schools listed.

The Tide has one commit in the 2023 recruiting class so far. Power forward Sam Walters announced his commitment to Alabama back in July. The coaching staff is also pursuing talented recruits Isaiah Collier, Eric Dailey and Curtis Williams Jr. In 2021, the Tide won the SEC Tournament and advanced into the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. If the Tide could land an elite prospect like Royal, the Crimson Tide program may see a much-needed boost.

Devin Royal includes Ohio State in his top nine

This one bears watching when you are talking about keeping a homegrown kid at Ohio State. #GoBucks

One of the things Ohio State basketball head coach Chris Holtmann is going to be judged on when it comes to recruiting is the ability to keep the home kids at Ohio State. While the efforts on the trail have been pretty solid, having a kid escape out of your backyard and to another program won’t land well when you are trying to build a program back to where it was in not-too-distant memory.

One of those situations is brewing with the recruitment of Pickerington Central small forward Devin Royal. At 6-foot, 6-inches, Royal is a bit of a do-it-all type of player. He can score in the paint, has expanded his game to shoot from the outside at a high level, and has the length to be disruptive on both ends of the floor. He’s been a fast riser in the recruiting world and has offers from many D-1 schools already.

The momentum will only continue to build for a kid that is already ranked as the No. 76 overall prospect and 14th best small forward in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. To say that OSU could use him would be an understatement for the direction of the program.

Royal has been very coy about what teams are leading in the race to land his services, but he just released his top nine schools with Ohio State being in the mix. Also included in those nine includes some pretty heavy competition from Alabama, Clemson, Marquette, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Penn State.

Royal has said in the past he’d like to wrap up his commitment before his senior season, so a decision could be looming soon. It must be noted that this is a top nine rather than a final nine, so others could and probably will come into the mix and extend the timeline, but it all bears watching for the kid that very well could end up being Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio.

It’s going to be fun to watch Royal’s development as an area product no matter where he plays his college ball, but it’ll be even more fun if it’s in scarlet and gray.

Rutgers basketball latest to offer three-star Devin Royal

Rutgers men’s basketball offers three-star forward Devin Royal of Ohio.

Devin Royal is one of the latest high school ballers to receive an offer from Rutgers men’s basketball. The senior announced the offer on social media on Monday.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward fits the mold of the type of player coach Steve Pikiell wants on his squad. A physical, athletic finisher around the rim that excels off the dribble. Add in his developing jump shot, and he could see a higher level than his three-star rating.

Royal finished with a game-high 20 points to lead his school, Pickerington Central, to win the Ohio Division I state title. They snapped their opponents 45 game win streak in the process.

247Sports has Royal ranked as a three-star forward and the sixth best player in Ohio in the class of 2023. He already has offers from several Big Ten schools like Penn State, Ohio State, Illinois, and Michigan State – as well as Butler, Xavier, and Florida State among others.

The Spartans offer came just two days before the Scarlet Knights’.

Michigan State basketball offers 2023 3-star SF Devin Royal

Michigan State basketball offers 2023 3-star SF Devin Royal

Michigan State basketball is on the hunt for some future Spartans. On Sunday, MSU offered 2023 3-star small forward Devin Royal of Pickerington Central High School in Ohio.

Royal is the No. 27 ranked small forward in his class and the No. 123 ranked player overall by 247Sports.

While this may not be the splashy recruiting move some may want to see from Izzo, he’s made a career of turning 3-star guys like Royal into big time contributors for the green and white.
