Ohio State football player signs autograph for tattoo artist

Ohio State football player signs autograph for tattoo artist #GoBucks

At any other school, a player signing memorabilia for a tattoo artist wouldn’t be news. At Ohio State memorabilia and tattoo artists bring up horrific memories of Tattoogate and the 2010 season that was lost.

If you don’t remember, the 2010 season was vacated due to five Buckeyes selling their gold pants (back in the day when Ohio State players had them in bulk) and other memorabilia in exchange for tattoos. Mike Adams, Boom Herron, DeVier Posey, Terrelle Pryor and Solomon Thomas were the players suspended for a portion of the 2011 season, but this controversy would also lead to the exit of Jim Tressel.

Today freshman phenom, Jeremiah Smith is able to pose proudly with a tattoo artist and the jersey he signed. It should be mentioned that the artist had already purchased the jersey prior to the meeting.

Fortnite Tournament features eight former Ohio State stars

#FortniteGame Tournament features eight former Ohio State stars #OvMFortnite #GoBucks

This Sunday, streaming superstar and Michigan football fanatic, NICKMERCS has partnered with Columbus’ own, eFuse and Epic Games to host one of the most exciting Fortnite tournaments in history and the first tournament to feature both current and former Ohio State and Michigan football players for up to $55,000 in prizes.

“Gaming deserves a place in rivalries as grand as this,” said Matthew Benson, CEO of eFuse. “Alongside our partners are Epic Games, we’re going big with a tournament featuring the rivalry’s biggest names, putting real money on the line and broadcasting this out to millions of viewers. Our proprietary platform was built exactly for major moments like this and we can’t wait to see how the gaming community responds.”

“Football and gaming have long been synonymous,” said Zach Beebe, Founder of NIL Management, a management and consulting agency supporting college football’s top stars. “The Rivalry Week Fortnite tournament is celebrating the past while looking to the future and building new traditions within gaming and modern entertainment. Our collegiate clients are super excited and can’t wait to battle. This series will be one for the history books!”

It gives me chills to think of this rivalry extending to yet another arena and my mouth dropped when Team Ohio State was announced. There will be 16 players on the roster, with eight being former stars and eight being current ones. To get you ready if you’re into this sort of thing (and you should be) here are eight former Buckeye stars jumping on the sticks to defend the great state of Ohio.

The tournament will air Sunday, November 20, at 7 p.m. ET on NICKMERCS’s MFAM Gauntlet Twitch channel: twitch.tv/mfamgauntlet.

Former Ohio State football players in the CFL

The Canadian Football League (CFL) is about to kick off. Did you know these former Ohio State players are playing north of the border?

The Canadian Football League will begin training camp this week with the season kicking off on August 5. There are always a few notable former Buckeyes that continue their gridiron careers up north like Duron Carter, Jonathan Newsome, and Troy Smith from years past. And true to form, there are five memorable OSU names to keep track of for the 2021 season as well.

For those unfamiliar with the CFL, there are nine teams and the field is larger with only three downs. But another key component is that teams are required to maintain a certain number of native Canadians on the roster and on the field, which makes roster sports even more complex.

Below are the five former Buckeyes who are looking to make waves this season in the CFL. Please remember there was not a season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WATCH: Former Ohio State WR Devier Posey tells funny story about Jim Tressel and Rose Bowl

Watch as former Ohio State wide receiver Devier Posey tells a tense and classic moment he shared with Jim Tressel during the 2010 Rose Bowl.

It’s always interesting to get a peek behind the curtain of some of the classic games we all remember. It’s easy to view what unfolds in front of us on the television, but there’s so much you don’t hear and see that goes on behind the scenes or on the sidelines when the camera isn’t pointed in that direction.

One of those classic games occurred in January of 2010 in Pasadena, California when Ohio State took on Oregon in the Rose Bowl. And yes, you have the period right, it involves a classic Jim Tressel moment.

To hear former Buckeye wide receiver Devier Posey tell it, he had fill-in punt duty for the Rose Bowl and was anxious to make an impact one way or another. Oregon had recently taken a slight lead over Ohio State in a nip and tuck affair and was forced to punt. Posey went to field the ball but it slipped through his hands.

Luckily for him and the team, he was able to scoop it right back up before the Ducks’ coverage team converged on him. But if you think it went unnoticed by the Senator wearing a sweater vest on the sideline, you’d be dreadfully wrong. He calmly waived Posey over and admonished him similar to a concerned parent.

“You almost lost us the Rose Bowl,” Tressel whispered. “Just sit here right here for one play and reflect on that.”

Watch Posey tell the story himself in the below video shared to BTN’s Twitter profile. It doesn’t appear as though Tressel took his iPad away, or took the keys to the car for a while.

That does sound like a classic Tressel moment, especially since it occurred on what he once most famously said is “the most important play in football,” — a punt.

Buckeye Battle Cry series: Best Ohio State football player to wear jersey No. 8

We’re up to No. 8 in our efforts to identify the best Ohio State football players to wear specific jersey numbers. Who did we pick?

We’ve been going through a series here at Buckeyes Wire. It’s a debate on which Ohio State football player is the best to wear specific jersey numbers, and we’re now up to No. 8.

Before we get into all the fun, here’s where we stand with all the jersey numbers we’ve debated to date:

Jersey No. 1 | Jersey No. 2 | Jersey No. 3 | Jersey No. 4Jersey No. 5Jersey No. 6Jersey No. 7

We’re doing this because we know you’re bored looking at every square inch of your home. We’re all getting a little stir crazy from being cooped up due to the measures put in place to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, and there are only so many classic games you can watch. I mean Star Wars was great, but …

Anyway, in the long, illustrious history of Ohio State football, there is sure to be some disagreement, but that only makes it more fun.

We will continue to go as high as makes sense, or until we can no longer afford a haircut. We’ll have the results of all of these polls further down the road.

Mark, kick it off for us.

Next … Mark starts it off
