Winnipeg Jets at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Thursday’s Winnipeg Jets at Detroit Red Wings sports betting odds, with NHL matchup analysis, lines and picks.

For the second time in three days, the Winnipeg Jets (19-10-2) and Detroit Red Wings (7-22-3) face off; this time it’ll be on Detroit’s ice. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena. The Jets beat Detroit 5-1 Tuesday. We analyze the Red Wings-Jets odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Jets at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck vs. Jonathan Bernier

Hellebuyck, the confirmed starter, has won four of his past five starts. He didn’t start against Detroit two days ago, but saw action late, allowing a goal on two shots in 1:09 of time on ice. Hellebuyck has a .933 save percentage and 2.24 goals against average through 23 starts and two relief appearances.

Bernier didn’t start the previous game, and sports an ugly 3.41 GAA and .888 SV%, which are his worst numbers since his 2007-08 rookie campaign. It has been a month today since his last win, with seven starts over that span. He gave up at least three goals in each of his last eight appearances. Ouch.

Prediction

Jets 5, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Jets held Detroit (+165) to just 17 shots Tuesday, which ended as the Red Wings’ 12th straight loss (0-10-2). They’ve been outscored 54-21 in the last dozen games. WINNIPEG (-200) should easily take care of business in this home-and-home rematch, but they’re a chalky play and you can find better value elsewhere.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Jets to win outright returns a profit of just $5.00. It’s not a bad play, it’s just a lot of tax to pay.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Here’s a puck line I can get behind, with WINNIPEG (-1.5, +135) the play. While they’re 17-14 ATS overall, they’re 12-4 on the road, which is rare to see. Detroit, just 5-11 ATS at home (12-20 overall), is without RW Anthony Mantha (lower body) and D Danny DeKeyser (ankle), while LW Andreas Athanasiou (undisclosed) is questionable.

Backing the Jets to beat Detroit by at least 2 goals returns $13.50 in profit on a $10.00 wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

Detroit ranks last with just 2.09 goals scored per game and 28th with 28.8 shots/game. Defensively, things aren’t better: Ranking last in goals against (4.0) and penalty kill (72.5%). Hitting the projected total of 5.5 requires the Jets to do most of the work; they’re just 6-9-1 vs. the O/U on the road; Detroit is 8-7-1 at home vs. the line. With Bernier giving up at least four goals in each of his last two outings and the Wings short-handed, stick with the OVER 5.5 (-134).

Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The Pittsburgh Penguins (16-9-4) and Detroit Red Wings (7-20-3) do battle Saturday evening at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Hockeytown. We analyze the Penguins-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Penguins at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Jimmy Howard

Murray is expected to get the start Saturday after Tristan Jarry posted a shutout Friday night, his second straight. There is a goaltender controversy in the Steel City, and Murray needs a big performance to keep Jarry from continuing to carve into his role. Murray is 9-5-4 with a 2.84 goals-against average and .897 save percentage with one shutout.

Howard has been terrible, going 2-11-1 with a 3.94 GAA and .887 save percentage, as he comes in on an 0-6-1 skid while allowing three or more goals in six of the past seven outings.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:05 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 5, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Penguins (-209) are expensive, and even with Murray in there instead of the red-hot Jarry, they should have enough against the Red Wings (+170). Still, you can’t give twice as much as your return. That’s just not good business.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The PENGUINS (-1.5, +125) are an attractive play against the sieve known as Howard. In the past three wins by the Pens, they have also covered the puck line, so feel confident laying the goal and a half.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-150) will cost you quite a bit of juice, but you’re not going to have to worry about it. Howard has been terrible, and the Penguins will pepper him. In fact, they might be able to take care of the over themselves.

Previewing Saturday’s Washington Capitals at Detroit Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Washington Capitals (18-4-5) take on the Detroit Red Wings (7-18-3) Saturday at Little Caesars Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Capitals-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Capitals at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Samsonov vs. Jonathan Bernier

Bernier is 5-6-2 on the season, but hasn’t been in net for a Red Wings win since Nov. 12. He has a .893 SV% and a 3.32 GAA through 13 starts and three relief appearances. He allowed three goals on 40 shots against the Toronto Maple Leafs his last time out.

Capitals at Red Wings: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:15 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Capitals 6, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

Both teams played Friday with the Red Wings taking a 6-1 loss on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Capitals beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime at home. The CAPITALS (-223) have won two straight while the Red Wings have lost eight in a row and are just 4-8-1 on home ice. The back-to-back situation for Washington seems to have deflated its odds with this number higher than it should be.

Washington is tied for the second-best goal differential in the league at plus-18 while the Red Wings are a league-worst minus-50. Detroit is outshot by 3.5 shots on goal per game and has a team shooting percentage of just 6.21 at 5-on-5.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Increase your profit with the CAPITALS by backing them to cover the -1.5 (+125) and win by two or more goals. The Caps are 15-12 against the puck line overall and 10-3 on the road. The Wings are 12-16 overall and just 5-8 at home.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Capitals to cover the spread and win by two or more goals returns a profit of $12.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 6.5 (+125) and rely on the Capitals to handle the bulk of the scoring Saturday. Washington is 6-4 against the Over/Under across its last 10 games while Detroit is 5-4-1 across its last 10.

Red Wings at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Jonathan Bernier vs. Carter Hart

Bernier has been in net for three straight losses for the Red Wings. He is 5-6-2 through 13 starts and three relief appearances this season with an .893 save percentage and a 3.32 goals against average.

Hart is 7-5-3 through 15 starts and a relief appearance to start his sophomore campaign. He has a .900 SV% and a 2.54 GAA.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:20 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 5, Red Wings 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Flyers are prohibitive home favorites at -286. They’re the much better team in every area of the ice and have won two straight games entering the home contest against a Red Wings squad mired in a seven-game losing streak. Philadelphia is 7-1-4 on home ice while Detroit is just 3-9-2 on the road.

Philly wins this rather handily, but our value will lie on the spread with a $10 moneyline bet returning a profit of just $3.50. It’s too much chalk to eat the day after Thanksgiving.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get plus-money with the FLYERS (-1.5, +100) to win by two or more goals. The Red Wings are 12-15 against the puck line and 7-7 on the road, and the Flyers are 14-11 overall and 7-5 at home. Each of the Red Wings’ last three losses were by margins of at least two goals, including Bernier’s last start Saturday, Nov. 23.

Six of Philly’s 13 wins on the season were decided by at least two goals and it outshoots the opposition by 4.6 shots on goal per game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the OVER 5.5 (-143). The Red Wings have topped the goal projection in just four of their last 10 games while the Flyers have done so in only three of their last 10, but Philly will take care of the bulk of the scoring against Bernier. A late goal by the Red Wings will send this over the number.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (11-10-4) and Detroit Red Wings (7-16-3) hook up in an Original Six renewal of acquaintances Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Hockeytown. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Maple Leafs at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Jimmy Howard

Andersen carries an 11-5-2 mark, 2.68 goals against average and .916 save percentage into battle. One of those wins came at LCA back on Oct. 12 when the Danish tendie stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in a 5-2 victory.

Howard was on the receiving end of the 5-2 beating back on Oct. 12, coughing up four goals on 40 shots. One of those goals allowed went to Maple Leafs C Alexander Kerfoot, but Howard needn’t worry about the ex-Avalanche pivot, as Kerfoot is suspended for this one.

Maple Leafs at Red Wings: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 3:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-209) are heavy favorites in this one, but they simply cannot be trusted at this price point. Yes, they have shown some jump under new bench boss Sheldon Keefe, winning two in a row at Arizona and at Colorado, but they’re still too risky even against the cellar-dwelling Red Wings (+170). Look to the puck line instead.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +135) are anything but a sure thing. However, if you’re looking for value, the Leafs catching plus-money to win by two or more goals is the spot. They outscored the Coyotes and Avalanche 8-4 in two games under Keefe, winning each game by two goals. Those who bet only the moneyline in the past two outings left money on the table.

Over/Under (O/U)

The line on the UNDER 6.5 (-139) is slightly inflated. The Leafs are still without Mitch Marner (ankle), and Andersen has been a beacon of hope for the Leafs. The Red Wings have a strong offense with a bright future, but they have had their hands full with the Leafs. The Under is 9-3-1 in the past 13 meetings in Detroit, too. This won’t be a defensive slog, but won’t be mistaken as fire wagon hockey, either.

Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (14-8-1) visit the Detroit Red Wings (7-15-3) Sunday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Hurricanes-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Hurricanes at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Petr Mrazek vs. Jimmy Howard

Mrazek has won four of his last five starts and is now tied for the league lead with 11 wins through 16 games played. He has a .903 save percentage and 2.63 goals against average, as he has benefited from plenty of goal support.

Howard has allowed at least three goals in each of his last five starts, and he went 0-4-1 over that time. He is 2-9-1 on the season with an .883 SV% and 3.98 GAA.

Prediction

Hurricanes 6, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The HURRICANES (-167) are heavy road favorites over the Red Wings (+140). Both teams played Saturday night with Carolina dropping the Florida Panthers 4-2 on home ice and Detroit falling 5-1 at the New Jersey Devils for a fifth straight loss.

The Hurricanes are 6-4-1 on the road while the Wings are 4-6-1 at home. Carolina has a goal differential of plus-0.52 with 3.48 goals for per game and 2.96 allowed. Detroit is minus-1.44 with a league-worst 2.36 goals for per game and 3.80 goals allowed.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Hurricanes to win outright in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $6.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Hard pass on the puck line. The Hurricanes are getting -455 odds to cover +1.5 and either lose by a goal or win outright. The same $10 wager fetches a meager profit of $2.20. Stick with the moneyline, as the Hurricanes will be winning this game outright.

Over/Under (O/U)

The top play of the day is OVER 6.5 (+115). Both teams are tired, but that swings more heavily in Carolina’s favor as the deeper and better team in every area of the ice. The Hurricanes are 5-5 against the O/U across their last 10 games while the Wings are 5-4-1 over the same span. Carolina wins this handily and takes care of the bulk of the scoring.

Detroit Red Wings at New Jersey Devils odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Detroit Red Wings at New Jersey Devils sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Detroit Red Wings (7-14-3) travel to Newark to face the New Jersey Devils (7-10-4) at Prudential Center Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Red Wings-Devils odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Red Wings at Devils: Projected starting goalies

Jimmy Howard vs. Louis Domingue

Howard has a 2-9-1 record for Detroit with a 3.98 goals against average and .883 save percentage. Detroit’s goaltending has the worst goals saved above average in the league.

Domingue made five saves in the final 18 minutes of Friday’s night 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in his debut for the Devils.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:55 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Devils 4, Red Wings 3

Moneyline (ML)

The DEVILS (-154) played Friday night and more goals should be expected in this game as a result. Detroit’s 71% success rate on the penalty kill helps New Jersey immensely.

A $10 bet with New Jersey results in a $6.49 profit with an outright win for the Devils.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Devils are 7-14 against the spread which is dead last in the entire NHL. The Red Wings have just enough offense to keep New Jersey from connecting on the spread (-1.5, +170). AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-154) is a good play given the fact these are two of the worst teams in the league when it comes to goals allowed. Detroit is dead last with 3.75 and New Jersey is next to last at 3.57 goals yielded per contest. New Jersey’s penalty kill is 27th at home so Detroit may have added chances to pad the goal total.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a $6.49 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Red Wings-Ducks odds: Anaheim has slight edge over Detroit

Previewing Tuesday’s Detroit Red Wings at Anaheim Ducks sports betting odds, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Anaheim Ducks (9-8-1) entertain the Detroit Red Wings (6-12-1) at Honda Center Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET. We analyze the Red Wings-Ducks odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Red Wings at Ducks: Projected starting goalies

Jimmy Howard vs. John Gibson

Howard has posted a 2-8 record so far with a 3.99 goals against average and .887 save percentage. He has won three straight starts while allowing just six goals on his last 84 shots faced.

Gibson expects to get the nod Tuesday despite allowing six goals to the Edmonton Oilers Sunday night. He is 6-8 with a 2.80 GAA and .915 SV%. Gibson gets less than 2.5 goals per game of support which is in the bottom five of the league among starters.

Red Wings at Ducks: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Tuesday at 7:55 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Ducks 3, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The DUCKS (-154) are a bit more rested here as Detroit is on a West Coast road trip. Detroit has won two straight while Anaheim has dropped consecutive games at home. This has brought down the moneyline a bit and may continue to do so during the day.

A $10.00 bet with Anaheim results in a $6.49 profit with an outright win for the Ducks.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The spread is a bet to AVOID as the Ducks have been spotty at home of late. Also, Anaheim has won three of the last four matchups but needed empty-net goals in two of them to provide the extra cushion. These teams just tend to play lower-scoring contests.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+105) is a modest, small play. Both teams could score three-plus goals or this could be a 2-1 outcome. There is a good amount of variance here.

The last four meetings have seen the Under connect thrice.
