Nick Nurse, Sixers react to having James Harden back at practice in camp

Coach Nick Nurse and the Philadelphia 76ers discuss having James Harden back with the team at practice on the second day of training camp.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Philadelphia 76ers welcomed a very important piece to their team back to the floor on Wednesday. After missing media day and the first day of training camp, James Harden officially rejoined the Sixers at practice on Wednesday.

Harden still wants out. The future Hall of Famer has made it clear he wants to join the Los Angeles Clippers, but for the moment, he is a member of the Sixers. The team wants him to be with them and prepare for the 2023-24 season until they can find a suitable trade package for him.

After practice on Wednesday, coach Nick Nurse and other Sixers addressed having Harden back on the floor with them.

Tyrese Maxey, other Sixers give thoughts on current James Harden saga

Tyrese Maxey and other members of the Philadelphia 76ers give their thoughts on the current James Harden saga.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The conversation around the Philadelphia 76ers focuses on one player: James Harden. The future Hall of Famer did not attend media day on Monday as he continues his push to be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Sixers are not going to trade Harden just to trade him; he is still a very talented player. Philadelphia is going to do everything in its power to either will him back to the team or wait until the right deal comes along.

This is not the first time the Sixers have dealt with this situation. The Ben Simmons saga was just two years ago, so they have experience in this situation. As they prepare for the 2023-24 season, Tyrese Maxey and other members of the team gave their thoughts on the situation.

A key question for every Philadelphia 76ers player on the roster

Here is a key question for every player on the roster as the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the upcoming season.

The Philadelphia 76ers are ready to convene for training camp on Tuesday when they head to Colorado State University to begin preparation for the upcoming season. The Sixers are expected to remain contenders in the East despite the ongoing James Harden saga.

As the new season approaches, now is the time to begin previewing the 2023-24 season and begin getting ready for the adventure that is Sixers basketball.

With camp approaching, it is time to begin talking basketball. Here is a key question for the players on the roster with guaranteed deals:

Sixers 3 goals: Danuel House Jr. needs to regain his shooting touch

Philadelphia 76ers guard Danuel House Jr. needs to regain his shooting touch in the upcoming season.

In this continuing series, Sixers Wire looks at the 18 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 15 under contract and the three players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2023-24 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 26, and training camp begins on Oct. 3. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball.

Next up in this series is Danuel House Jr. who the Sixers acquired in free agency in 2022. In his first season in Philadelphia, House Jr. shot 33.6% from deep and averaged 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds.

House Jr.’s three goals for the upcoming season are as follows:

Sixers’ Danuel House Jr. to pick up $4.3 million player option for 2023-24

Philadelphia 76ers guard Danuel House Jr. will pick up his $4.3 million player option for the 2023-24 season.

While free agency is still weeks away, there are some housekeeping matters the Philadelphia 76ers and their players have to take care of.

Danuel House Jr., for example, had a $4.3 million player option for the 2023-24 season. It is the second year of a two-year deal he signed in the 2022 offseason.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, House Jr. will pick up that option and remain in Philadelphia. He averaged 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds while shooting 33.6% from deep in his first season with the Sixers. He was in and out of the rotation, but he remained ready whenever his number was called.

House Jr. will likely battle for minutes with Jalen McDaniels in the 2023-24 season. McDaniels is a free agent, but if he returns the battle for backup minutes will be between those two.

House Jr. had 10 points off the bench in the Game 5 win over the Boston Celtics in the second round.

The Boston Celtics walk away with a Game 6 win over the Philadelphia 76ers to keep their season alive and force a Game 7.

Doc Rivers explains turning to Danuel House Jr. in win over Celtics

Doc Rivers explains why he turned to Danuel House Jr. in a Game 5 win over the Boston Celtics on the road.

BOSTON — The Philadelphia 76ers needed somebody to step up on the road on Tuesday to pick up a win over the Boston Celtics. After shortening his rotation in Game 4, coach Doc Rivers expanded it in Game 5.

Instead of turning back to Jalen McDaniels, the Sixers turned to Danuel House Jr. The veteran out of Texas A&M hadn’t played any extensive, real minutes in this postseason, but the 29-year-old stayed ready and when Rivers called his name, he was ready to go.

House Jr. scored 10 points and had five rebounds in 15 minutes of work off the bench, and he helped the Sixers knock off the Celtics, 115-103. Philadelphia now has a 3-2 lead in this series.

“You go with a gut,” Rivers said afterward. “I can tell you we talked about it painstakingly yesterday and today between three guys who to play and I can tell you House was not the pick, but I just picked him. I thought we needed size and we needed athleticism. That’s something that he has.”

Rivers’ gut feeling turned out to be one terrific move as the Sixers benefited from House Jr.’s play off the bench.

“To be honest with you, he really didn’t tell me — yeah, he told me a role, but he just told me go in and play and my job was to bring energy,” House Jr. said. “Showcase a little bit for the team, guard the yard, and make sure I’m executing plays.”

James Harden played with House Jr. when they were both with the Houston Rockets. He understands how his game is, and he was happy to see him out there for Philadelphia in a big moment.

“He knows his role in this league,” Harden said of House Jr. “Obviously, he can make a shot, but he’s really good at finishing. He’s a really good defender. A guy that can do multiple things fits anywhere on any team and I’m happy that he’s on our team.”

House Jr. has also played in many playoff games during his career whether it’s with the Rockets, the Utah Jazz or with the Sixers. He can step up in any moment and he proved it again on Tuesday.

“It’s huge,” House Jr. said of hs playoff experience. “It’s huge because much necessary — he (Rivers) trusted his gut feeling. He went with a guy that has some experience.”

Player grades: Paul Reed, role players lead Sixers over Nets in finale

Paul Reed and the role players step up to lead the Philadelphia 76ers over the Brooklyn Nets in the season finale.

NEW YORK–The Philadelphia 76ers paid a visit to the Barclays Center on Easter Sunday looking to finish the season on the right note as they took on the Brooklyn Nets. What “right note” means is making sure they are all in one piece before they head into the playoffs.

Also, when considering they will face this same Nets team in Game 1 of Round 1, neither team played any of their main rotation pieces. In another game that featured all of the role players, Paul Reed and the Sixers came out on top 134-105 to head into the postseason on a high note. Reed had 17 points and 10 rebounds in some very productive minutes for Philadelphia.

Shake Milton had 20 points and eight assists and Mac McClung had 20 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists to lead the Sixers and Louis King also had 20 points. Dewayne Dedmon added 14 and seven rebounds while Danuel House Jr. added nine points and Jalen McDaniels had eight points.
