A former Wisconsin QB will continue his athletic career playing baseball at Houston

Yes, you read that headline correctly. It isn’t often we see college athletes transfer schools to then play a different sport. But I guess if it would happen anywhere, it would happen at Wisconsin where there is no baseball team.

The move was made yesterday by Daniel Wright, a walk-on quarterback for the Badgers who announced he was transferring to Houston to continue his college athletic career with its baseball program.

Wright was an unranked quarterback in the class of 2020 according to 247Sports. The Sergeant Bluff, Iowa native walked on at Wisconsin after only holding an offer from Sioux Falls.

Wisconsin backup quarterback and former walk-on Daniel Wright has entered the transfer portal, according to a tweet from Evan Flood of 247Sports.com.

The 6-foot, 8-inch signal-caller redshirted last year after joining the program with the class of 2020.

247Sports.com lists the Badgers as the only FBS school to show interest in Wright during his recruitment process, with Sioux Falls being the only school to officially offer the quarterback.

The Sergeant Bluff, Iowa native is now reportedly in the transfer portal with the hope of finding a new location to play out his remaining four years of college eligibility.

WATCH: Daniel Wright returns interception 48 yds for TD

Alabama DB Daniel Wright return an interceptio 48 yards for a touchdown in the Week 2 contest vs Texas A&M.

Redshirt-junior defensive back Daniel Wright intercepted a pass from Kellen Mond and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown.

The Alabama defense appeared shaky in the season-opening matchup vs. missouir, drawing concerns from fans about their future play and the job security for second-year defensive coordinator Pete Golding.

The interception return for touchdown puts the Crimson Tide up 28-14 over the Texas A&M Aggies.

The score helps alleviate some stress over an interception thrown by Mac Jonesm which set up a one-play drive for a 17-yard touchdown.

Despite 14 unanswered points scored by Texas A&M, Alabama quickly came back and the defense has looked stronger than in the beginning of the game.

Alabama football countdown: 3 days until kickoff

We are 3 days from Alabama football kicking off its season on the road against the Missouri Tigers to start a 10-game, SEC only schedule.

There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of months, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.

Two players are currently wearing the No. 3 for Alabama. On offense, redshirt sophomore receiver Xavier Williams has switched from the No. 9. And on defense, it’s starting safety Daniel Wright, a redshirt junior from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.).

10 Alabama players who need to step up in 2020

Alabama is looking to make it back to the College Football Playoff in 2020. These 10 players will be crucial factors in that quest.

Alabama is fresh off its first season without making the College Football Playoff since its creation prior to 2014. In order to make it back and, once again, compete for a national championship in 2020, the Crimson Tide is going to need several players to step up.

Below is a collective list of 10 of those players who will be heavily relied on this upcoming season, and it’s likely that those included will be deciding factors in determining just how good — or how bad — Alabama will be.

First up, a second-year safety…

1. Jordan Battle, Safety

Jordan Battle is the only safety on the roster with starting experience after earning four starts as a true freshman in 2020. Now, he’ll be relied on as one of the leaders on defense while becoming more of a consistent playmaking presence.

Is he Alabama’s next big-time safety prospect? Absolutely.

Next: The favorite for the No. 3 receiver role..

Alabama player snapshot: No. 3 Daniel Wright

Redshirt junior Daniel Wright is the next man up on Alabama football’s player snapshot, which highlights each scholarship player.

As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.

Each day, we’ll release anywhere from 2-4 player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.

Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.

Next up on the list is safety Daniel Wright out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.).

Height: 6-1 / Weight: 190

Class: Redshirt Junior

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.)

High School: Boyd Anderson High School

HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 122 overrall / No. 16 S / No. 22 FLA

HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 167 overrall / No. 17 S / No. 31 FLA

Analysis: Entering his fourth year in the Crimson Tide’s program, safety Daniel Wright will finally get a chance to earn a starting job. He’ll face some competition from DeMarcco Hellams, Brian Branch and others, but he’s considered the front-runner to start next to Jordan Battle.

That’s not a bad thing, either. Wright was a former top 150 recruit, according to 247Sports, coming out of high school. His first three seasons were limited to special teams play, injuries and a rotational role, but he has an opportunity to be a perfect example of “The Process” that includes a patient approach.

Don’t be surprised if a combination of Wright and Hellams teams up to become the perfect complementary pieces to Battle.

Wisconsin Lands 2020 QB Daniel Wright as a Preferred Walk-On

On Sunday Daniel Wright announced his Sunday to accept Wisconsin’s preferred walk-on opportunity with the Badgers.

Wisconsin was still in search of their quarterback for their 2020 recruiting class. That changed for the Badgers on Sunday when Daniel Wright from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa announced he had accepted a preferred walk-on offer from the Badgers.

Wright listed at 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds was previously committed to Division 2 Sioux Falls where his brother is currently on the roster. But the fact that Wright will be the only quarterback Wisconsin is going to take in the 2020 recruiting cycle to go along with Wisconsin’s walk-on tradition it was an offer he couldn’t turn down.

Wright was in Wisconsin this past weekend for an unofficial visit as he also held a preferred walk-on offer from Iowa State.

Wright represents the second walk-on to commit to Wisconsin in the last week as he joined Marquette University linebacker, Riley Nowakowski.

Wright in his varsity career threw for over 7,000 career passing yards and 78 touchdowns.

After signing 19 scholarship players and two walk-ons during the early signing period on December 18th the next wave of signees won’t be able to sign their national letter of intent until Wednesday, February 5th.
