Dalton Knecht named to Julius Erving Award watch list

Vols’ graduate transfer named to Julius Erving Award watch list.

Tennessee forward Dalton Knecht has been named to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award preseason watch list by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The award, named for 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, is awarded to the top small forward in NCAA Division I college basketball.

Knecht is one of 20 players on the watch list, determined by a national panel of top college basketball personnel.

Knecht, a graduate transfer from Northern Colorado, was a Second-Team All-Big Sky Conference player last season after winning the league’s scoring title. He averaged 20.2 points per game and ranked 23rd in the nation in scoring.

During his senior season at Northern Colorado, Knecht eclipsed the 30-point mark three times.

No. 1-ranked small forward transfer announces commitment to Vols

Northern Colorado forward Dalton Knecht announces his commitment to Tennessee. Knecht is ranked as the No. 1 small forward transfer.

Former Northern Colorado small forward Dalton Knecht announced his commitment to Tennessee on Friday.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward is from Thornton, Colorado. He is the No. 1 small forward in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.

Knecht averaged 20.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 47.9% last season. He was named second-team Big Sky All-Conference and earned second-team NABC All-District honors.

He played two seasons at Northeastern Junior College before signing with Northern Colorado. In 2020, Knecht earned first-team NJCAA All-American honors after averaging 23.9 points per game.

As a freshman, Knecht earned Region IX All-Region honors after leading Northeastern to the NJCAA Region IX regular season title.

Knecht is the third transfer portal addition for the Vols. USC Upstate guard Jordan Gainey and Harvard forward Chris Ledlum have also committed to Tennessee.

Looking at a potential best-case lineup for Texas basketball next year

Texas could be primed for a massive portal haul. We project a possible lineup for the team.

The Texas Longhorns basketball program could be one player away from a trip back to the Elite Eight. What if I told you that player is a portal transfer from Northern Colorado?

On Thursday night, we learned that Texas had contacted 6-foot-6 Northern Colorado guard Dalton Knecht and shared their interest in bringing over the athletic talent.

Knecht averaged 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds over the last season. He commands a list of suitors that includes Texas, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oregon and UCLA.

The largely unknown talent scores in a handful of ways. Knecht connects on step back long range baskets like former BYU star Jimmer Fredette and throws down highlight dunks like Mac McClung. And while it’s often unlikely that a team is one transfer away from contention, the mid-major star might fit that billing for Texas.

Here’s a look at a potential best-case lineup for Texas.

UNC reaches out to highly sought transfer portal target

The UNC basketball program reached out to one of the most highly sought after transfer portal targets.

The UNC basketball program is in the midst of a very important offseason, and it is heavily involved in the transfer portal.

The Tar Heels have five open scholarships for the 2023-24 season. Six players entered the transfer portal, and two players, Leaky Black and Pete Nance, exhausted their eligibility.

On Tuesday, the Tar Heels landed their first commitment from the portal with the addition of Brown transfer wing Paxson Wojcik.

North Carolina also reached out to one of the highly regarded transfers on the market, [autotag]Dalton Knecht[/autotag].

Knecht is a 6-foot-6 wing from Northern Colorado who averaged 20.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this past season. He started his career at Northeastern (Colorado) Junior College where he was a Junior College All-American before spending the past two years at Northern Colorado.

In 67 games at Northern Colorado, he averaged 14.3 points per game and shot 37.3% from three. He made 125 3s across two seasons.

He scored in double-figures in 28 of the 32 games played this season and scored 26 or more points in eight games.

He also had five double-doubles, one coming against Baylor when he had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Indiana, Oregon, Kansas, Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado are among those that have reached out.

His scoring and shooting ability address needs for the Tar Heels on the perimeter. The minutes are available for North Carolina as well, so this is one to keep an eye on.

CU men’s basketball has contacted Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht, per report

The #cubuffs have reportedly contacted Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht, who’s considered one of the top players in the portal

The Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team saw its season end during the NIT, and immediately Tad Boyle and his staff have gotten to work on the recruiting front.

On top of that, the transfer portal is blossoming with players looking for better opportunities. One of the biggest transfers in the market is Northern Colorado star senior guard Dalton Knecht, and the Buffs are one of a ton of programs to be in contact with him, according to Sean Paul of Mountain West Wire.

Some of the other schools include North Carolina, Oregon, Kansas, Arkansas, Utah and Indiana. However, Knecht might want to stay in the state of Colorado, which would send the Buffs to the forefront of the conversation.

Knecht was born in Thornton, which is just a 30-minute drive from Boulder, and pairing him with five-star incoming freshman Cody Williams would be fun to watch next season.

Knecht dazzled with Northern Colorado, averaging 20.2 points per game with 7.2 rebounds and a 38% clip from beyond the arc this season. However, the Bears finished 13-20 and missed the NCAA Tournament once again, so Knecht likely wants to improve his draft stock and have a shot to play in the postseason.

5 wings the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal

The Oregon Ducks are getting KJ Evans and Mookie Cook next season, but if Quincy Guerrier or Rivaldo Soares leave, they could use a transfer addition. Here are five names to consider:

Of all the positions for the Oregon Ducks to feel okay about looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, forward/wing is the top of the list.

Although it is not clear whether Quincy Guerrier or Rivaldo Soares will return next season, they will retain Jermaine Couisnard and of course add a pair of elite freshmen in Mookie Cook and KJ Evans.

Still, things can certainly change, and if either Guerrier or Soares were to hit the portal or pursue professional opportunities then Dana Altman might want to see what the portal has to offer on the wing.

Perhaps a transfer addition at that spot would be more of a depth option, a three point shooter or defensive stopper off the bench, but if Altman can get some of the big fish they could add an impact starter and push someone into a depth role – which is never a bad thing to have when trying to get back into the big dance.

Below are five options on the wing, who would each fit a different role, that Altman and his team should purse this transfer season:
