Browns had 4 in for tryouts including new practice squad signee Cyril Grayson

The Browns had four players in for tryouts today, including their newest practice squad member Cyril Grayson

The Cleveland Browns held tryouts once again this week. This is not the first time this season that a player has been signed to the practice squad from a tryout, and it may not be the last time. Former Miami Redhawks’ safety Mike Brown won a spot on the practice squad in a tryout, and now wide receiver Cyril Grayson has done the same.

The Browns, however, did have three other players in for tryouts as well, so the churning of their practice squad could continue. Here we take a look at all four names and provide a bit of background information on all of them.

Browns sign WR Cyril Grayson to practice squad, release Herb Miller

The Browns have made another move to their practice squad, signing wide receiver Cyril Grayson and releasing Herb Miller from their reserves

The Cleveland Browns have made another move to their practice squad. After swapping out one center for another on the practice squad yesterday, the Browns have now signed wide receiver Cyril Grayson to their reserve unit today. In order to make room for this move, the Browns have also released cornerback Herb Miller.

Grayson, listed at 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds, played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all three seasons leading up to 2022. He is an undrafted free agent out of LSU via the 2017 NFL Draft but did not see action until 2019.

A year ago, Grayson caught ten passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns from Tom Brady. He has also returned two kicks in his career, providing limited special teams value as well.

At the end of the day, however, Grayson now brings 4.33 40 yard dash speed to the Cleveland practice squad.

NFLSU Week 8: Cyril Grayson scores first career touchdown

Cyril Grayson leads this week’s NFLSU update

Week eight of the NFL season saw plenty of ups and downs for former LSU Tigers. We start with the bad news. Two former Tigers defenders in Danielle Hunter and Jabril Cox were in action against each other. It ended badly as both would suffer season-ending injuries.

Next, we turn our focus to the good news.

Cyril Grayson was promoted from the practice squad for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a dream moment for the former LSU Tigers track star as he caught a 50-yards touchdown pass from future Hall of Fame QB Tom Brady. It was the first scoring reception of his short career. Grayson has appeared in seven games in his three-year career.

A great moment, but it was the New Orleans Saints who got the last laugh in this game. Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase also continued their scoring ways but in a losing effort to the New York Jets.

A full look at the former LSU Tigers who were in action during week eight of the NFL season.

Ex-Saints kick returner, LSU track star Cyril Grayson gets shot with Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed former New Orleans Saints kick returner and ex-LSU Tigers track star Cyril Grayson from the Dallas Cowboys.

[jwplayer A1HDGD64-ThvAeFxT]

A former New Orleans Saints wide receiver has a big opportunity, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Cyril Grayson off of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. Grayson spent the summer with the Saints competing for a roster spot with rookie returns specialist Deonte Harris, though he ultimately was waived during roster cuts.

Grayson’s background as a track-and-field athlete was on clear display during the Saints preseason games. He competed for the LSU Tigers in college before trying his hand in the NFL, initialy joining the Seattle Seahawks before the Saints brought him in for an extended tryout. He worked out for a few different teams before the Cowboys added him to their practice squad.

It’s great to see Grayson get this opportunity, even if it’s coming with a rival squad in the NFC South. But the Buccaneers are eliminated from playoff contention and need to evaluate all possible options as they enter the second year of Bruce Arians’ tenure as head coach. If Grayson can make an impact in the final two weeks of the season, it could turn into a longer stay with Tampa Bay.

Bucs place Scotty Miller on IR, sign Cyril Grayson

Tuesday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed rookie wide receiver Scotty Miller on IR with a hamstring injury, making him the third receiver for the Bucs to have his season ended by a hamstring, leaving just three active receivers on the Bucs’ roster.

To help fill the void, the Bucs signed former track star Cyril Grayson.

Grayson spent four years at LSU and was a four-time NCAA champion and a seven-time All-American for his work in the 400 meters — individual and relay. With a personal best in the 400 meters coming in at 46.51 seconds, Grayson, who stands at 5-foot-8, is nothing short of a burner. In the preseason, Grayson spent time with the New Orleans Saintsand caught eight passes for 147 yards, an average of 18.4 yards per catch.

Grayson comes in at a time when the Buccaneers are vulnerable and he has a chance of making the active roster next season if he shows the big play potential that he showed for the Saints during his four-game preseason run.

The Houston Texans visit the Buccaneers on Saturday, and with the Bucs not having much depth on their receiving corps, there could be a healthy dose of Grayson for Jameis Winston to throw deep passes to.

News: Witten blocking Jarwin’s groove, Cowboys make roster moves

The Cowboys made a handful of roster moves, and will have armfuls to make in the offseason. There’s a depth chart move they need to make.

There are two trains of thought as the Dallas Cowboys head into the final three weeks of the 2019 season.  The first is that the Cowboys should blow everything up, lose out, and secure a top-15 pick in next year’s draft.  The other is to win 2/3 games with one of those victories against the Eagles in Week 16 and host a playoff game.  Arguments can be made for both because what is apparent is that the Cowboys have two completely different outcomes to their season, each on the opposite side of the spectrum.

The next three weeks will determine everything for the Cowboys.  In a season where the NFC East has been about as bad as it can be in recent years, both the Cowboys and the Eagles are scrapping towards the finish line with sub-.500 records and in doing so casts a wide range where the teams will pick in next year’s draft.  The Cowboys also did a bit of roster management, promoting Mitch Hyatt to the active roster while adding a track superstar to their practice squad.  In addition, teams were notified of the salary cap for 2020 and the Cowboys look to be in great shape, no matter how the 2019 season concludes.

Roster Churn: Cowboys add 4-time college track champ to WR group :: CowboysWire

The Cowboys have performed some late-season roster churning, adding Cyril Grayson to the practice squad.  Grayson has elite speed, running a 4.33 forty at LSU’s pro-day.  He still has yet to see any action this year having spent time with the Colts, Saints, Bears, and Texans’ practice squad.

Cedrick Wilson to IR, Cowboys promote UDFA OL to 53-man roster :: CowboysWire

The depth of the Cowboys’ wide receiver corps took a hit Tuesday as Cedrick Wilson was placed on injured reserve.  Wilson suffered a knee injury in Chicago.  Wilson’s roster spot was filled by promoting Mitch Hyatt to the 53-man roster.  Hyatt was a four-year starter for Clemson but has yet to see any regular-season action.

As we suggested in the article, it has been confirmed the move was made to protect him from another team trying to sign him to their 53-man roster.

The last time Dallas made a similar move was to protect TE Blake Jarwin from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Blake Jarwin’s potential success has been hindered by the return of Jason Witten :: Blogging The Boys

The Cowboys seem to have a tight end capable of making big plays, but he can’t get on the field because the club seems to prefer better blocking and veteran leadership out of the position. Is it wise?

The return of the veteran tight end has hindered Jarwin’s opportunity to get on the field. So far this season, Witten has played 76% of the Cowboys offensive snaps and caught 53 passes for 455 yards. This season, while playing just 37% of the team’s offensive snaps, Jarwin has caught 28 passes for 311 yards, an average of 11 yards per catch. Witten has a 5.6% drop rate while Jarwin has a 2.8% drop rate, Witten has a 2.6 YAC rate, Jarwin is at 4.4.

Six NFC East playoff scenarios for the Eagles and Cowboys :: The Athletic

Given the 6-7 record of the 2019 Dallas Cowboys, it’s tumultuous to even think they still lead the division and are on the verge of hosting a playoff game.  However, there is still a lot to determine over the next three weeks and The Athletic breaks down six different scenarios for the Cowboys that range from having them host a playoff game to potentially having a top-10 pick in next year’s draft.

NFL provides expected 2020 cap range, Cowboys could near $90M of space, 2 tags :: CowboysWire

NFL teams were made aware that the 2020 cap space would near approximately $197 million on Tuesday.  This provides the Cowboys with a ton of flexibility as they will have almost $90 million in cap space this offseason.  The team will need every penny as they sort out the long-term contracts for both Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper.

Cowboys playoff picture: Eagles’ win over Giants puts pressure on Dallas :: Dallas Morning News

The Eagles mounted a furious rally against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.  Zach Ertz caught the game-winning touchdown in overtime to secure the win and pull the Eagles to within a game of the Cowboys in the NFC East race.  All things considered, it’s looking more likely that the division will come down to the Week 16 contest between the teams.

2020 updated NFL draft order: Cowboys’ tale of 2 paths over final 3 weeks :: CowboysWire

The Cowboys will either host a playoff game this year and pick anywhere from pick No. 21-No.32 or they will not make it to January football and could potentially pick as high as No. 8 or No.9.  This is by virtue of their terrible 6-7 overall record as well as the terrible play of the Eagles.  One thing is for certain is that these next three weeks will determine the future for not only the current regime but future ones as well.

Roster Churn: Cowboys add 4-time college track champ to WR group

Dallas will sign former LSU track star Cyril Grayson to its practice squad, adding WR depth and special teams help for the rest of 2019.

The Dallas Cowboys continue to make roster moves ahead of their Week 15 meeting with the Los Angeles Rams, in hopes that a little fine-tuning here and some minor tweaking there will be enough to fuel a late-December push to the postseason.

The latest addition to the club is wide receiver Cyril Grayson, according to reports. This practice squad signing comes in the wake of Cedrick Wilson’s injury sustained in the final minute of play against the Bears on December 5. Wilson had to be assisted off the field after attempting to haul in a Dak Prescott pass and ultimately left the stadium on crutches.

A seven-time All-American on the track, Grayson ran a 4.33 forty at LSU’s Pro Day in spring 2017, according to RotoWorld. Despite not playing football in college, he talked his way into participating in the same pro day as Leonard Fournette and Jamal Adams. It’s an incredible story that ended with him being offered a contract by Seattle 72 hours later, even though Grayson didn’t even have an agent at the time.

Since then, the 5-foot-9 speedster has also spent time with Indianapolis, Houston, Chicago, and New Orleans, mostly on those teams’ practice squads. He has yet to see action in a regulation NFL game.
