Video: Yaroslav Amosov quickly finishes UFC alum in first fight post-Bellator

Former Bellator champ Yaroslav Amosov moved to 28-1 as he reentered the win column in his first fight back from hiatus.

Former Bellator welterweight champion [autotag]Yaroslav Amosov[/autotag] is back in the win column.

Amosov (28-1) competed Friday for the first time since he lost his title and subsequently parted ways with the promotion. In the CFFC 140 headliner at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Amosov submitted UFC alum [autotag]Curtis Millender[/autotag] (21-11) with an anaconda choke at the 4:18 mark of Round 1.

The bout was a 183-pound catchweight that was initially scheduled to take place for a debuting promotion, Fightality, in Chicago. However, the event was canceled and Amosov vs. Millender shifted under the CFFC banner,

Amosov, 31, was considered one of the best fighters outside the UFC prior to an upset TKO loss to Jason Jackson in November 2023. Following the defeat, Amosov took time off. The break was elongated by the Bellator-PFL merger and eventually his contract expired.

Back in the win column, Amosov only has one promotion in mind: the UFC. He even sported a UFC mouthpiece during his fight Saturday. The Ukraine military member told MMA Junkie he planned to compete once outside the UFC before he tried to enter.

“I want to show this world I’m a good fighter and I will be champion,” Amosov said. “My last fight is my fault. I want to show it’s just a mistake. I show this world this mistake. … I think I can do this. I will do this. Maybe that’s better. I’ve trained with many guys, many years, and I feel I can do this. I’ll take this (UFC) belt.”

Former Bellator champ Yaroslav Amosov return fight moves to CFFC 140 in Philadelphia vs. UFC alum

Yaroslav Amosov is trying to get on the UFC roster – and now his debut has moved to CFFC on UFC Fight Pass.

Former Bellator welterweight champion [autotag]Yaroslav Amosov[/autotag] has the same date and opponent for his return to the cage – but it’ll take place in a different city under a more recognizable promotional banner.

Amosov (27-1) will now fight UFC alumni [autotag]Curtis Millender[/autotag] (21-10) in a 183-pound catchweight bout March 14 at CFFC 140 at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

The matchup was originally slated to be promoted by Fightality, a debuting fight company, at Compass Arena in Chicago. It’s unclear if the event has been canceled, though it does not appear on the venue’s website.

Amosov, 31, was touted by many as one of the best welterweights in the world during his title reign as Bellator champion from 2021 to 2023 – which occurred as he fought in war for Ukraine against Russia.

The upcoming fight will be his first since November 2023 when he lost the title to Jason Jackson in a surprising TKO upset.

Shortly after the merger of PFL and Bellator, Amosov informed MMA Junkie he was a free agent and planned on working his way to the UFC.

“We have a plan,” Amosov told MMA Junkie in October during his first interview after his Bellator departure. “We want to sign a contract for just one fight (somewhere). After one fight, we want to go to the UFC.”

Millender, 37, competed for the UFC five times and compiled a 3-2 record. Since his promotional departure in 2019, Millender has competed for Bellator, PFL, XMMA, and Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA among other promotions. He enters the bout on a two-fight skid that came after four-straight wins.

Gamebred FC’s Curtis Millender: ‘Everyday I wish I was still in the big show in the UFC’

Curtis Millender would love to still call the UFC his home, but that’s not the reality as he enters a Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA fight.

[autotag]Curtis Millender[/autotag] would love to still call the UFC his home.

Millender kicked off his UFC tenure in February 2018 with a Performance of the Night knockout of Thiago Alves. He followed that up with two more wins, before dropping back-to-back to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, and current UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. He was released from the promotion in late 2019.

Since then, Millender has dabbled in various different combat sports, and amassed a four-fight winning streak before running into Alexander Shlemenko in June.

“Everyday I wish I was still in the big show in the UFC,” Millender told MMA Junkie Radio. “I see guys like Kevin Holland, Belal, Max Griffin. Everybody that’s still there, they’re doing very well for themselves. I’m proud of those guys, it’s good to see those guys still doing their thing and living out their dreams.

“But, a little piece of me that wishes I was still there. Life would be a lot different. Life is still good, I’m doing great. I’m still getting to do what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m still getting to travel, I’m still getting to make money to fight, I still don’t have to work a 9-5. Life is still amazing.”

Millender returns against Jesse Ronson in Friday’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 8 event at Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Miss. As long as “Curtious” gets to continue competing at a high level, he’s satisfied.

“I never talked to my management about, ‘Oh, are they asking about me?’ or anything like that just because I didn’t want to put that added pressure,” Millender said. “But, I would see things, I would see different media outlets talk about, ‘Curtis is on a five-fight win streak, guys that may get back in, stuff like that.

“But, I never officially talked to my manager. I’m just like, get me the best fights available. If I can’t fight the toughest guy available, at least make sure I make some money. I always knew in the back of my mind it can be close, like it can be coming if I stay on the right path, continue to do what I’m doing, win fights. It’s always a possibility to get back.”
