Defensive end Carson Mott commits to Colorado

Another future Buff has been added to the 2023 herd

Colorado added another piece to its 2023 recruiting class and in the process, flipped that player from a conference rival. Defensive end Carson Mott of Simi Valley, California, who was a Cal commit until May 23, gave his verbal commitment to Colorado on Monday. The Buffs made a strong push for his commitment and beat out the likes of Arizona State, San Diego State and Washington for Mott’s services. All of those aforementioned schools offered Mott after his Cal decommitment.

Mott, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound edge player, is listed as a three-star prospect on 247Sports and is a top-100 California player.Β He had the following to say about Colorado (h/tΒ BuffStampede):

“(Colorado) likes my film and how I get to the ball and how I have theΒ measurables to fit the position that I play. They just really like the film.Β I have been recruited a lot as a stand-up edge and an outside ‘backer to drop, but Colorado runs a 4-3 so they see me as a true edge.”

Buffs receive commitment from four-star recruit CJ Turner

Four-star recruit CJ Turner has verbally committed to Colorado

It has been a busy recruiting week for Karl Dorrell and his staff, as the Colorado Buffaloes have added five players to their 2023 recruiting class since April 11. Colorado’s biggest addition of the offseason so far came on Friday when the Buffs received a verbal commitment from athlete CJ Turner.

Turner is rated a four-star recruit on Rivals and a three-star on 247Sports. Coming in at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, he is listed as an athlete, but is projected to be a linebacker or possibly a defensive back. He hails from Star City High School in Arkansas, and also has offers from Arkansas State, Jackson State, Kansas, Memphis and Tulane.

As of Sunday, the Buffs’ 2023 recruiting class is now nine players strong, and as it currently stands, CU has the top-ranked class in the Pac-12 and the No. 10 ranked class nationally, according to 247Sports. While that ranking likely won’t last, the coaching staff certainly deserves some credit for the work they’ve put in so far.

Kansas State lineman, Boulder native Brayden Wood enters transfer portal

A potential target for the Buffs has entered the transfer portal.

Kansas State Wildcats defensive lineman and Boulder, Colorado native Brayden Wood has announced that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal. A former standout at Fairview High School in Boulder, Wood was a redshirt freshman at Kansas State during the 2021 season.

Wood was a three-star recruit in the high school class of 2021, according to 247Sports. He was recruited by Colorado and had a visit, but did not end up receiving an offer from the Buffs. Boise State, Colorado State, Hawaii, Louisville, and Washington State were among Wood’s final schools before he chose Kansas State.

The Buffs are losing key defensive players in Nate Landman, Carson Wells, and Mustafa Johnson this year, as well as backfield talents like Christian Gonzalez, Mekhi Blackmon, and Mark Perry who have all transferred. Although there is already some young defensive talent on the roster heading into 2022, with four years of eligibility left Wood could be a potential transfer portal target for Dorrell and his staff.

Colorado picks up a 2023 commitment from Philadelphia offensive tackle

Colorado picked up their fourth commitment of the 2023 cycle on Tuesday.

The Colorado Buffaloes football team received good news on the recruiting front. Recently offered 2023 offensive tackle Naquil Betrand officially committed to the football program.

The Buffs had their issues on the offensive line last season during their 4-8 (3-6) season. The team took a step back after receiving a bowl bid in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season to play the Texas Longhorns in the Valero Alamo Bowl.

Betrand could be a building block for the future as Colorado looks to rekindle some of its former glory. Head coach Karl Dorrell has some heat on him heading into year three after a promising start in 2020. Improving recruiting will be the key.

Betrand plays both ways as a defensive tackle and offensive tackle at the high school level. He projects best as an offensive tackle at the next level. After his commitment, the Buffs have the No. 3 ranked class in the Pac-12 and No. 28 overall according to 247Sports composite team rankings.
