Colorado football hosting several top recruits over weekend

Several elite 2024 recruits are posting about their visits to Boulder this weekend

An impressive group of recruits is visiting Boulder this weekend to check out Colorado’s revamped football program under head coach Deion Sanders.

Those who’ve reported being in town include five-star CB Charles Lester III, four-star DL Brandon Davis-Swain, four-star WR Zycarl Lewis, three-star RB Micah Welch and a couple of commits in four-star athlete Aaron Butler and three-star IOL Talan Chandler. All six are class of 2024 prospects.

As of Saturday, the Buffs own five 2024 commits, but it seems likely that more will soon come as the summer rolls on.

Below are a few tweets highlighting what has been a busy recruiting weekend in Boulder:

Notable prospects, transfers Colorado football has offered so far in May

These notable prospects and transfers have received an offer from Colorado so far this month

Spring football wrapped about two weeks ago and Colorado has been as active as ever on the recruiting front, extending offers to players ranging from high school underclassmen to established Division I transfers.

In recent days, the Buffs’ efforts have resulted in transfer commitments from Arden Walker (Missouri), JJ Hawkins (Missouri), Reggie Young (Liberty) and several others on both sides of the ball. Head coach Deion Sanders and his staff now have 12 scholarship spots available to work with following the additions of Walker and Hawkins, per BuffZone.

Below is a look at some of the most notable prospects/transfers who’ve reported offers from Colorado so far in May:

Examining notable Colorado recruiting targets visiting for spring game

Several notable recruits are coming to Colorado for the spring game on Saturday

Football season is around the corner.

Colorado hired Deion Sanders this past December to turn around the program, and he’s set to lead his first spring game four months later.

There’s a great deal of hype around the program, and beyond the pomp and circumstance that an ESPN broadcast brings to what’s essentially a sneak peek of Colorado’s program heading into the fall, the spring game serves as a key opportunity to showcase the new-look Buffs to recruits.

A long list of recruits will be visiting Folsom Field for the spring game this Saturday. Here are a few of the notables:

Coach Prime flip watch: Multiple SEC commits attending Colorado’s spring game

A handful of SEC commits are expected to attend Colorado’s spring game, per On3. Can Coach Prime flip?

Folsom Field will be at the center of college football on April 22 with Colorado’s first spring football game under head coach Deion Sanders being broadcast on ESPN.

In addition to a sold-out crowd of fans, a few of the nation’s top recruits are also expected to be in Boulder for Black & Gold Day, including multiple four and five-star targets.

Plus, as highlighted by On3’s Josh Newberg, the Buffs are set to host four major class of 2024 prospects who are each currently committed to an SEC school. Coach Prime has a long history of flipping top recruits and grabbing even one of these three would be monumental.

Below is a look at the three SEC commits expected to attend CU’s 2023 spring game (h/t On3).

Note: Tennessee commit Gage Ginther confirmed via Twitter that he will not be attending Colorado’s spring game.

Ranking each Pac-12 football team by 2022 recruiting spending

Colorado was among the lowest recruiting spenders in the Pac-12 last year

In today’s college football, you get what you give. Teams that are able — and willing — to expend more resources on recruiting typically land the best recruits no matter the state they’re in.

For Colorado, the Buffs have long used a good deal of their available resources to heavily recruit California and Texas, but things are quickly changing in that regard with head coach Deion Sanders’ southern connections.

Using data obtained from a partnership between USA TODAY Sports and the Knight-Newhouse Data project at Syracuse University, below is a look at how much each Pac-12 school spent on football recruiting for the 2022 fiscal year.

Note: Financial data was not released for USC and Stanford.

Colorado offers rising NFL Academy DE Emmanuel Okoye

Colorado’s international recruiting pipeline has been strong under Coach Prime

Recruiting international players has been a priority so far in Deion Sanders’ early days as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.

In about three months, the Buffs have signed a pair of London, England prospects in class of 2023 linebacker Kofi Taylor-Barrocks and Arkansas State transfer tight end Seydou Traore — both alumni of the NFL Academy in London. Coach Prime is now back for more as on Feb. 25, his staff offered another NFL Academy product, 2024 defensive end Emmanuel Okoye.

A Nigerian native, Okoye has also been offered by a slew of other Division I programs in recent weeks, including Tennessee, Ole Miss, Minnesota and Texas Tech.

Here’s what Okoye told American Football International writer Alex Malchow:

“I felt blessed to receive an offer from CU and to be recognized by great people who see my potential.”

“The NFL Academy has two phenomenal alumni in Kofi and Seydou at CU dominating at their positions and paving the way for other international students coming after them. They are making it easier for international players to be recognized.”

5-star LB TJ Capers names his top five schools

Could five-star TJ Capers be the next pass rushing linebacker to play at the University of Georgia?

Elite linebacker recruit TJ Capers is the No. 7 recruit in the junior class. Capers is the No. 2 player in Florida and the No. 2 edge rusher in the class of 2024.

Capers considers Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Colorado and USC to be his top five schools. Capers has received an invitation to the 2024 Under Armour All-America Game.

Capers is a five-star recruit. He plays high school football for Columbus High School in Miami, Florida. He plans to commit on Jan. 7.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker is a well-rounded athlete for Columbus. Capers plays football, basketball and track and field.

The five-star linebacker is racking up scholarship offers. The junior standout already counts Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU and Texas A&M among his offers.

Capers received a scholarship offer from Georgia in May 2022.

The Columbus High School star primarily plays outside linebacker. Capers is a good pass rusher that has the bend necessary to turn the corner on offensive tackles. Capers is versatile and can drop into coverage. He’s a big hitter, who plays well in space.

Capers announced his final five schools via Twitter:

Colorado football recruiting: Three-star CB Jordan Shaw taking official visit during Homecoming weekend

Jordan Shaw is an intriguing official visitor the Buffs are hosting this weekend

In addition to a slew of prospects taking unofficial visits, the Colorado Buffaloes will host two 2023 recruits on official visits during Homecoming weekend: cornerback Jordan Shaw and Arizona commit Rhino Tapaatoutai, an offensive tackle.

Unless the Buffs are able to steal Tapaatoutai from an improving Wildcats program, Shaw’s visit is the most intriguing to me.

Shaw is currently the No. 51 cornerback nationally in his class per 247Sports and has already taken visits to Colorado State and San Jose State. During his junior season at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in California, the three-star recruit racked up seven interceptions, eight pass deflections and over 1,000 receiving yards in 14 games played.

247Sports analyst Greg Biggins had some encouraging words on Shaw (h/t BuffStampede):

“He’s one of the most under-recruited players in the region and has the talent to play for just about anyone out West,” Biggins wrote on Shaw. “When you look at his on-field production and his explosive play making ability on both sides of the ball, he’s someone we thought would be among the more coveted players in the state.”

Colorado hosting four-star recruit Jojo Solis for Arizona State game

Four-star running back Jojo Solis is set to be at Folsom on Saturday

It’s Homecoming week in Boulder and the Colorado Buffaloes have an opportunity to impress some recruits during a winnable game against Arizona State.

One of those recruits in attendance will be San Bernardino, California running back Jojo Solis, who received an offer from the Buffs back in August. Per 247Sports, Solis is a four-star prospect with three other Pac-12 offers, including Washington State, Arizona State and Cal. He’s only a sophomore at Aquinas High School, though, so he should continue gaining Division I attention.

Colorado is also hosting 2026 wide receiver Jewellz “JuJu” Parm, 2024 WR Aiden Hall and 2024 safety RJ Whitten, as announced by their Twitter accounts.

CU Buffs to host 2024 WR Jonah Dawson for Cal game

Three-star WR Jonah Dawson will be at Folsom on Saturday

Every game, and especially every home game, presents an opportunity for the Buffs to impress recruits. Colorado typically welcomes a number of recruits to Folsom Field during the season and on Saturday against Cal, three-star class of 2024 wide receiver Jonah Dawson will be on hand.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect from Rancho Cucamonga, California announced his upcoming trip to Boulder via Twitter on Tuesday. In five games played so far during his junior season at Rancho Cucamonga High School, Dawson has 467 receiving yards and leads the Cougars with four receiving touchdowns.

Besides CU, his only other offer is from Colorado State. He also visited Oregon in April.

Colorado has offered 28 class of 2024 WRs so far, but none have committed yet.
