WATCH: Colin Cowherd Says Vince Young Reminded Him of Tim Tebow

Colin Cowherd tried to compare Vince Young to Tim Tebow when he was in high school. The only issue is that Young was out of college.

When talking about Joe Burrow and his rather small hand size at the NFL Combine, Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd brought up two names that were also some of the best quarterbacks to ever play the collegiate game. He brought up former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and Texas quarterback Vince Young.

Cowherd claims that Young reminded him of Tebow. The only problem is Tebow was still in high school and hadn’t yet taken a snap at Florida. When the eventual Heisman winner was a senior in high school, Young was wrapping up the 2005 season, winning the national championship.

Having 15,325 combined career passing yards, the two may not have had throwing issues like Cowherd suggests. With Tebow winning the Heisman in 2007 while also finishing top five two other times and Young finishing second in 2005, Heisman voters recognized how good the two were.

Both considered two of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history by many, both Young and Tebow led their teams to their latest championships. The Longhorns in 2005 and the Gators in 2008. Both dynamic runners of the football to go along with their arm, Young finished his career with 3,127 rushing yards and Tebow ended with 2,947 rushing yards.

Both of them are great quarterbacks but played in different eras of college football. Young was able to end a 35-year championship drought, while Tebow started one of the greatest runs in Florida’s history.

Colin Cowherd predicts 11-win season for Broncos in 2020

Colin Cowherd believes the Broncos will be a surprise team next season.

After going 7-9 last season, the Broncos will look to reach double-digit wins in 2020 and return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season. At least one member of the national media — Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports — believes Denver will make a big jump next season.

“They won four of their last five games,” Cowherd pointed out in his way-too-early 2020 NFL power rankings. “I think they found their quarterback in Drew Lock . . . he’s just a puppy. Their defense was [in the] top 10 last year.

“So, I think they got the quarterback. [It’s] the second year in Vic Fangio’s system. Bradley Chubb — who never gets hurt — got hurt, so Von Miller and Bradley Chubb are still top two or three [edge defenders], great duo.”

Cowherd noted that he believes Denver will be the surprise team of the league, predicting that they will win 11 games during the 2020 NFL season. The last time the Broncos won that many games was 2015 (12 wins).

The Kansas City Chiefs made their second straight appearance in the AFC Championship Game, and for the second straight year, it was cold in Kansas City.

Last year, ahead of the Chiefs’ eventual loss to the New England Patriots, Cowherd doubted that Arrowhead Stadium would present a hostile environment for Tom Brady because the noise would be muffled out by ski masks in frigid weather. Given that Arrowhead Stadium holds the literal Guinness World Record for loudest outdoor stadium, Chiefs fans took the slight personally.

In case you missed it last year, this was the Cowherd video.

Fast forward to Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Titans, and the Cowherd video was used to the Chiefs’ advantage. The Chiefs production staff played the clip on the videoboard before a crucial defensive play, urging the Chiefs fans to get louder.

Even Cowherd took notice.

The CBS broadcast had the decibel level well over 100. It didn’t look like the 19-degree weather had any negative impact on the crowd noise this time around either.

Dan Le Batard’s show makes a mock ’30 for 30′ about Colin Cowherd’s terrible NFL picks

“What if I told you … “

What if I told you an ESPN radio show took a shot at its competitor on FOX and that it’s going viral?

That’s exactly what happened with Dan Le Batard’s show earlier this week — Colin Cowherd went 0-5 against the spread in his NFL Week 17 “Blazin’ 5” picks … and then picked straight up in Wild Card weekend, taking the Bills, Patriots, Eagles and Saints. All of them lost. So he doubled down and went with the Ravens to beat the Titans. You know what happened next.

So here’s how Le Batard and Co. responded — with a mock 30 for 30 trailer absolutely destroying Cowherd:

This is where I would make a joke, but somebody on For The Win — and I’m not naming names here — just went 1-7 in the last two weeks of picking NFL playoff games.

Colin Cowherd does a 180: Giants may have a phenom in Joe Judge

After suggesting the New York Giants panicked and made an awful hire in Joe Judge, Colin Cowherd has done a complete 180.

Shortly after news broke that the New York Giants had hired Joe Judge to become the team’s 19th head coach, FOX Sports Radio personality Colin Cowherd ripped the team for “panicking” and making an awful hire.

“I think the Giants panicked. I think Dave Gettleman panicked. This is a bad move to me,” Cowherd said. “This guy is an assistant. He is not ready, in my opinion, to be a head coach.”

With a day to dive deeper into who Judge is and what some of the legendary names around the business think of him, Cowherd admitted that maybe — just maybe — he was wrong and Judge could turn out to be the NFL’s next phenom coach.

“Yesterday when Joe Judge got hired my takeaway was ‘Good God, this feels like a panic move!’ But now that I’ve read [everything], maybe Judge will be special,” Cowherd said. “There are some late bloomers, but most exceptional people separate very early and you can spot them very early. Judge is in his 30’s and it’s very possible that Dave Gettleman saw what Bill Belichick and what Nick Saban did.

“Belichick kept giving him more assignments, and Saban kept elevating him. Sean McVay, like Judge, was also a quarterback in high school and got a job at 30 years old in Los Angeles. Kyle Shanahan was 37, Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher were not even 35 yet. Jon Gruden got a head coaching job at 34 after Al Davis spotted him. John Madden was 32. Don Shula was 33. Belichick was 38. . . Maybe I was wrong.”

Considering how hard we ripped Cowherd for his criticisms of Judge, it’s only fair that we call attention to his change of heart.

Perhaps others will follow Cowherd’s lead and give Judge a chance before declaring him a disastrous mistake. Or, at the very least, at least read up on him a bit before criticizing him based solely off of emotion.

Colin Cowherd: I know nothing about Joe Judge, but Giants made a bad hire

FOX Sports Radio host Colin Cowherd admits he knows literally nothing about Joe Judge, but says it’s a bad hire for the New York Giants.

FOX Sports shock jock Colin Cowherd isn’t a fan of the New York Giants hiring Joe Judge to become their next head coach, going as far as to suggest the organization panicked and rushed themselves in a move that will only drag the franchise down further.

“I think the Giants panicked. I think Dave Gettleman panicked. This is a bad move to me,” Cowherd said.

Ironically, Cowherd completely embarrassed himself with the very next line, admitting he knows literally nothing about Judge and therefor isn’t in a position to make a judgement about his ability or fit with the Giants.

“I don’t know much about Joe Judge,” Cowherd admitted. “I made two calls this morning and a text.”

Two calls and a single text were all it took for Cowherd to know the Giants panicked and made a huge mistake. He knows literally nothing about who Judge is as a person, coach or leader, but he’s certain the Giants panicked and made a bad hire.

Compelling argument, indeed.

“This guy is an assistant. He is not ready, in my opinion, to be a head coach,” Cowherd continued.

Again, Cowherd admits he knows literally nothing about Judge, but compounds his argument by saying that Judge is merely an assistant and not ready to be a head coach. Which, by the way, is the exact opposite of what Bill Belichick, the greatest evaluater in NFL history, had to say.

In other words, Cowher argues that his opinion, with admittedly lacks any and all knowledge, holds more water than that of Belichick and therefor, the Giants made a poor decision.

You following along yet? Good. Expect more of this mindless hate to flow in the Giants’ direction in the coming days because it sells, not because any of these media personalities really know what they’re talking about or actually believe what they are saying.

Colin Cowherd isn’t a fan of Ron Rivera choosing Redskins

Ron Rivera has one big detractor.

It seemed probable at least one notable personality was going to take issue with Ron Rivera joining the Washington Redskins and that someone has turned out to be Colin Cowherd.

But not for the reason most might expect.

While it’s easy to slight Rivera for joining an organization with so many issues, Cowherd actually goes a different direction — Dwayne Haskins.

As Cowherd points out, NFL coaches don’t make it long without a good quarterback and Haskins has yet to prove himself at best. He also hints Haskins might be the worst quarterback in the NFC East, which is a conversation for a different time.

As one could easily point out, Rivera could help forge Haskins into a great player in time. There were other options like New York or Cleveland, but nothing is guaranteed with those young quarterbacks, either.

Colin Cowherd admonishes Ohio State fans for complaining about Fiesta Bowl officiating

Colin Cowhered went on an almost eight minute tirade on Ohio State fans for complaining about the Fiesta Bowl officiating.

He’s back.

Not one to worry about what large fanbases think of him, radio talk show host Colin Cowherd has thrown all kinds of shade at Ohio State fans for their perception and complaining about the officiating in the Fiesta Bowl Saturday night.

In an almost eight-minute tirade, Cowherd criticizes Ohio State fans for feeling the team got robbed by a couple of controversial calls in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Though Cowherd agrees that the overturn of the fumble return for a touchdown was a so-called “overreach” by the replay booth, he still points to other things that had more of an impact on the outcome. He believes OSU’s two turnovers, field goals in the redzone, and inability to stop Clemson consistently in the second half was more impactful than anything the SEC crew assigned to the game did.

Ohio State vs. Clemson: Colin Cowherd makes his pick while trashing the Big Ten

Colin Cowherd has made his pick for Ohio State vs. Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. He did it while trashing the big ten.

The narrative continues to be set. Clemson is just too much for this Ohio State team. More and more media members are giving the Buckeyes no shot at hanging with the Tigers because of their speed, coaching and athleticism.

And now you can count FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd in that crowd. While appearing on his morning sports talk show, the sports personality sided with the Clemson Tigers in the Fiesta Bowl matchup set to take place Saturday.

“Clemson minus two, I like Clemson to win by a touchdown,” said Cowherd. “I thought the number was low, I think we’re undervaluing Clemson. I think we look at their conference and say they didn’t play anybody, and that is a huge benefit. They are healthy, they got a ton of depth, and I believe when you don’t know who’s going to win, you go with the coaching staff in college, and I think Clemson has the best coaching staff by a wide margin. They have three current head coaches, capable guys that could run programs. Dabo is just the No. 1 guy. I’m going to take Clemson here.”

Cowherd then went on to talk about Trevor Lawrence and Clemson’s defense.

“First of all, Trevor Lawrence since week nine — good luck. Ohio State’s defense gets the credit, I could argue Clemson’s is actually better — first in the country in multiple categories. Trevor Lawrence since week nine has been unstoppable.”

But Cowherd didn’t stop there. He went on to trash the entire Big Ten.

“I don’t think the ACC is great, but who who in the Big Ten is amazing outside of Ohio State,” Cowherd said. “Michigan? Lost to all the good teams they played. Wisconsin? Well-coached certainly, not a ton of great NFL players. Who else you selling me in that conference? Iowa? Okay, not special. Listen, right now Ohio State’s defense is good, but in the last four games, they’re allowing 21 (points) a game. That’s against Big Ten defenses (meant to say offenses we’re sure). Clemson — NFL back, NFL quarterback, NFL offensive line, NFL tight end, NFL receivers. I think Clemson is going to win 36-30, I’m not sure it will feel that close, but I think this is the type of speed Ohio State has not seen anything close to, and Clemson has. They’re 5-0 in the last two years against SEC speed and they’ve blown most of those SEC teams like Alabama out.”

Okay. There are so many things we could point out with this horrible and lazy analysis. Are we really still on the SEC speed thing despite Ohio State being one of the fastest teams in the country over the last few years. We’ve seen wide receivers, DBs, and other defensive players translate very well to the NFL, and scouts and metrics would tell you that this team is even more talented. That doesn’t mean OSU will win the game, but that’s a lazy and uneducated argument.

Also, to say Ohio State will struggle because Clemson will have more speed than anyone the Buckeyes have faced is the same argument you could make for what the Tigers will face. Cancel that out. You can’t use past history as experience and anyone should know that in college football. This year’s Clemson team has a totally different defense than what it’s had over the last couple of years.

Lastly, any analyst (besides Cowherd apparently) would take playing against Michigan, Wisconsin, (OSU didn’t play Iowa by the way), or Penn State, who Cowherd didn’t even mention, over the likes of what Clemson has faced. In fact, the Big Ten has three teams going to New Year’s six bowls. That’s tied with the SEC for the most of any conference.

Look, I know Cowherd gets paid to say things and it’s tough to come up with stuff when teams are pretty equal in the talent department, but none of these reasons make a bit of sense. After all, remember, this is the same guy that didn’t know Joe Burrow played for Ohio State originally.

Would quarterback Cam Newton be an option for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020?

What does the future hold for quarterback Cam Newton?

After an injury hampered Newton’s 2019 campaign, his time with the Carolina Panthers appears like it’s coming to an end since the team has seen Kyle Allen as their future signal-caller.

The Panthers would benefit immensely if they elect to move on from Newton, who has one year left under contract, saving $18.6 million.

With all signs pointing to Carolina departing ways, many outlets have been playing matchmaker for Newton.

Recently, The Herd’s Colin Cowherd went on to say that he believes the Los Angeles Chargers would be an ideal landing spot for Newton.

“The Chargers can’t sell tickets. They’ve got no juice athletically at quarterback. Cam is juice. You can bring Cam into that locker room, and all the (Joey) Bosa’s and the (Melvin) Ingram’s and the Mevin Gordon’s and the Derwin James would be totally into a mobile quarterback that adds juice and sells tickets in LA,” Cowherd said.

In order for the Chargers to even consider bringing in Newton, it would depend on the future with quarterback Philip Rivers. Set to become an unrestricted free agent, the franchise will have to decide whether or not they will extend him.

Rivers, who is turning 38 in December, has said that he wants to play in the new stadium in Inglewood, CA. But that was before the season, and depending on how the rest of the season pans out for the veteran quarterback who’s seen better playing days, his mind could change.

Then there is Tyrod Taylor and Easton Stick, who make up the rest of the quarterback room. There’s a possibility that the team could look to fill the starting job with one of these two if they move on from Rivers, with the most likely option being Taylor.

While Newton would bring a player to L.A. that’s well-known, has some good years left in the tank and fits the mold of a quarterback that coach Anthony Lynn likes in the system, there’s one thing that could sway the team away from making such a big move, the money.

Within the next couple years, the Chargers will to decice if they will pay players like Rivers, defensive end Joey Bosa, center Mike Pouncey, tight end Hunter Henry, running back Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler, wide receiver Keenan Allen and cornerback Desmond King among others.

Los Angeles has enough ammo to make a trade with Carolina, but it’s unlikely that they would want to give any of their key players up, making signing him the only reasonable option.
