Browns name 7 inactives including WR Anthony Schwartz vs. Ravens

The Browns have released their seven inactives vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz is among them

The Cleveland Browns have announced their seven inactives for today’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. While the majority are not too big of a surprise, the Browns have, however, listed second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz as inactive as well.

The other six names include the injured Denzel Ward, Wyatt Teller, Isaac Rochell, and Joe Haeg. Third-string quarterback Kellen Mond continues to be inactive as well, joined by veteran offensive lineman Chris Hubbard.

Listing five inactives themselves, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, wide receiver Tylan Wallace, running back Mike Davis, linebacker A.J. Klein, and guard Ben Cleveland will not suit up for the Ravens.

5 bold predictions ahead of Browns vs. Ravens

As the Browns and Ravens prepare for war, here are five bold predictions

The Cleveland Browns need a win more than any other team in the NFL right now. After starting 2-1, and a blown coverage away from 3-0, the Browns have since dropped three straight. However, still sitting at 1-0 in the division, they have a chance to make that 2-0 with a statement and a shocking win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The defense continues to sink, and the offense that started as a top-tier offense over the first five weeks came crashing down last week against the New England Patriots. Can the Browns tough out a win against the highly-favored Ravens?

Here are five bold predictions as the Browns look to get the train back on the tracks against the Ravens.

Browns elevating CB Herb Miller from practice squad vs. Ravens

The Browns are elevating Herb Miller from the practice squad for their bout with the Ravens

With cornerback Denzel Ward set to miss his second game due to a concussion, the Cleveland Browns are elevating Herb Miller from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens according to The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook. Thus far on the season, Miller has been elevated from the practice squad twice, while playing during Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers as a member of the active roster.

While Miller has yet to play a defensive snap for the Browns, he has contributed on 38 snaps on special teams. Playing on all of kick coverage, kick return, punt coverage, and punt return, Miller will be an active man again this week when the kicking and punting teams take the field against the Ravens.

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins to miss game vs. Browns with knee injury

The Browns will not have to face a former Ohio State star on Sunday

According to the Baltimore Ravens’ injury report, the Cleveland Browns will not have to face a former Ohio State star as J.K. Dobbins is set to miss Sunday’s game with a lingering knee injury that will sideline him for the next 4-6 weeks. He is the only player ruled out by the Ravens, but they also have several players questionable.

Among those questionable are tight end Mark Andrews, wide receiver Rashod Bateman, cornerback Marcus Peters, and offensive tackle Morgan Moses. At the rate that Cleveland’s defense is playing, however, the injury report is not set to make much of a difference. Besides, the Browns have ruled out two starters themselves.

Looking to turn their season around one game at a time, the Browns will look to prove everyone wrong against the potentially short-handed division rival.

NFL Week 7 parlay: Let’s make some money

Assessing NFL Week 7 betting odds and lines, with predictions and picks for the best parlay bet to make.

Let’s have some fun. Parlays are fun. They are not meant to be always winners. But when they are, the payout is great. And so is the feeling.

After looking at Tipico Sportsbook‘s NFL Week 7 odds, here is a “Let’s make some money” NFL parlay bet to cash in on among SportbookWire’s NFL expert picks and predictions.

Last week was a tragedy in many ways. Huge favorites lost outright. Of those favorites who did win, few covered. It was a wonderful day for the books.

Now it is our turn to make back some money. There aren’t many great games out there this week. Sure, Kansas City vs. San Francisco has the name value. But did you see the 49ers last week? This is a difficult week to find games. But we are going to do it.

NFL Week 7: Let’s make some money parlay

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated on Thursday at 12:38 a.m. ET. All games Sunday and ET unless noted.

Leg 1: FALCONS +6.5 (-110) at Bengals – 1 p.m.

Atlanta is coming off a 28-14 victory over a beaten-up 49ers team. The only team more beat up than the 49ers might be the Saints, who were beaten 30-26 by the Bengals.

The Bengals defense, which helped lead them to the Super Bowl last season, has not played the same in 2022. The Falcons have been better than many expected with a 3-3 record, which has them tied atop the NFC South with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While the Bengals are still the better team and have better weapons, the Falcons cannot be counted out. TE Kyle Pitts finally had his first TD catch of the season against the 49ers and QB Marcus Mariota looks to be having a rejuvenation not seen since, well, QB Geno Smith in Seattle.

The Falcons are 6-0 against the spread (ATS) this season. While this streak will end, I do not think it will be this week in Cincinnati. Take the underdog FALCONS to cover the +6.5 (-110) here.

Leg 2: GIANTS (+135) at Jaguars – 1 p.m.

No one expected the Giants to be 5-1 at this point in the season. After the Jaguars posted consecutive wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers, no one expected them to lose 3 straight afterward. Yet, here we are.

Jacksonville should not be favored in this game. Especially by more than a FG. The Giants, with QB Daniel Jones maturing and RB Saquon Barkley back in form, have provided excitement to the season.

Despite WRs Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard missing most of the season so far, New York has pieced together enough receivers to keep opposing defenses honest. The offensive line, once greatly maligned, is also becoming a strong suit in front of Jones.

For Jacksonville, QB Trevor Lawrence is better, but he still has hiccups which need to be sorted out. RB James Robinson has played solid, but fellow RB Travis Etienne has not emerged as hoped coming into the season.

This is going to be a close game, but with the GIANTS being the better team and being underdogs, I will take a shot on the ML of +135.

Leg 3: CHIEFS -2.5 (-125) at 49ers – 4:25 p.m.

Both teams are coming off loses. The Chiefs lost a battle of the best teams in the AFC with a 24-20 home loss to the Buffalo Bills. On the other side, playing their 2nd straight game on the East Coast, a battered 49ers team lost 28-14 to the Atlanta Falcons.

Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes threw an unusual interception in the final minute to clinch it for the Bills. It was his 2nd INT of the game, something which is not likely to be repeated in this game. Despite these mistakes, Mahomes still had the Chiefs in a place to win the game, finishing with 338 passing yards.

San Francisco QB Jimmy Garoppolo has been doing excellent work since coming in after the season-ending injury to QB Trey Lance. But without LT Trent Williams (out with an injury after Week 3), opposing defenses are getting to the statuesque QB and making it harder for him to get the ball out. The Chiefs will use the pass rush to disrupt the flow of what coach Kyle Shanahan wants to do. Chiefs coach Andy Reid is an expert in offense and he’ll make sure the loss to the Bills does not turn into a Chiefs losing streak.

The Chiefs are elite. The 49ers have a lot of questions surrounding them. This line should be closer to 7 than it is to 3. I will take the value even if the public is coming in hard on the 49ers.

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to win $80.75 (profit $70.75).

Leg 4-*: LIONS +7.5 (-120) at Cowboys – 1 p.m.

*-If you want to add a 4th play to this parlay

Why are the Cowboys favored by more than 7 points over anyone? Even with QB Dak Prescott back, we do not know what to expect from him. Coming back from the same type of injury, QB Russell Wilson struggled to finish 2021 with Seattle and we have seen what he has done this far in 2022 with Denver.

Grip is important to a QB and with the thumb injury suffered by Prescott, this might be an issue against a pass rush led by Lions rookie DE Aidan Hutchinson.

With the Lions coming off their bye week, RB D’Andre Swift and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown have had time to get healthy. The offense in Detroit is good, despite the 29-0 loss to the New England Patriots before the bye. The Cowboys are coming off a hard-fought loss to the Philadelphia Eagles 26-17 Sunday night and although they are hoping to rebound here, I do not see it happening by more than a TD. TAKE DETROIT +7.5 (-120).

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to win $148.05 (profit $138.05).

If you want to substitute one of the above, here’s another option:

Optional: Browns at Ravens OVER 45.5 (-110) – 1 p.m.

Both the Browns and Ravens come into this divisional matchup off losses. The Ravens lost 24-20 to the Giants and the Browns were dismantled 38-15 by the Patriots. This game is going to go a long way to whether either of these teams can make a serious playoff push. With the Browns being 2-4 and the Ravens being 3-3, neither can afford a loss. Especially in the division which could come down to tie breakers at the end of the season.

The Ravens have the worst pass defense in the NFL. Cleveland QB Jacoby Brissett will be able to find WR Amari Cooper and TE David Njoku for plenty of explosive plays. This will open the field for RBs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in the run game.

For the Ravens, we know what QB Lamar Jackson can do with his legs. Although RB J.K. Dobbins is still on a snap count, RB Kenyan Drake has filled in nicely, including a TD run against the Giants last week.  WR Rashod Bateman looks to get back for this game and the team signed speedy veteran WR DeSean Jackson to build up the receivers group. With TEs Mark Andrews and rookie Isaiah Likely also involved, the Browns will have a lot of pieces to cover while also worrying about Jackson taking off at any moment.

I do not have a handle on a side in this game. I lean Ravens, but not strong enough to take it. However, I love the Over. Even in a slog of a game last week, the Ravens got to 44. The Browns gave up 38 to the Patriots and could do it again here. This game is going to go up. So, get it early. Even if it does go up, I would take the OVER up to 47.5.

Joel Bitonio, Grant Delpit earn top PFF scores from the Browns Week 12 loss to the Ravens

As one might expect from a 16-10 defeat, most of the top-graded players from the Cleveland Browns in the Week 12 loss to the Baltimore Ravens come from the defensive side of the ball

As one might expect from a 16-10 defeat, most of the top-graded players from the Cleveland Browns in the Week 12 loss to the Baltimore Ravens come from the defensive side of the ball. Pro Football Focus issued seven of its 10 highest grades to players on the Cleveland defense from the loss.

The top-graded Browns defender was safety Grant Delpit. His 91.1 grade edges out rookie LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who earned an 88.1 overall score for his excellent effort in Baltimore.

Interestingly, PFF does not credit Delpit with the coverage on Baltimore’s touchdown pass from Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews despite him being the only Browns defender in the vicinity. That certainly helps prop up Delpit’s grade.

On offense, left guard Joel Bitonio was one of the few Browns players who earned a good grade. Bitonio scored 89.5 overall in 60 snaps, best on the offense. Tight ends Harrison Bryant (82.0) and David Njoku (77.4) were the only other offensive players to top 70 in overall grades.

The rest of the top 10 Browns from the game, via PFF:

  • Delpit 91.1
  • Bitonio 89.5
  • Owusu-Koramoah 88.1
  • Bryant 82.0
  • LB Malcolm Smith 78.0
  • CB Greg Newsome 77.7
  • S John Johnson III 77.7
  • Njoku 77.4
  • DE Myles Garrett 73.2
  • LB Sione Takitaki 72.1

Those are the initial grades. There is potential for Njoku’s grade to drop after the PFF analysts review the game tape another time; he was not credited with a drop initially despite a fairly obvious dropped pass in the game.

David Njoku makes the TD catch that nobody is sure really happened

Browns TE David Njoku (probably) caught a pass ruled as a touchdown in the Sunday night matchup with the Ravens

The Cleveland Browns finally scored a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens when tight end David Njoku hauled in a low throw from Baker Mayfield in the third quarter of Sunday night’s game. Well, at least we think he caught it.

Nobody really knows.

The different replay angles from the NBC broadcast feed were inconclusive. No matter what was ruled on the field was going to stand, and the officials called it a touchdown as the play unfolded. The ball might have hit the ground, it might have glanced off Njoku’s thigh, it might have done both, but in the end it was indeed a touchdown.

Here’s the catch in question:

Twitter isn’t so sure what it saw…

Ravens CB Marcus Peters fined for spitting at Jarvis Landry

No flag was thrown during the game but Peters got fined heavily for spitting at Landry

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters was fined $12,500 for an unsportsmanlike conduct situation in the Monday Night Football matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Peters intentionally spit at Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry after a play during Baltimore’s win over Cleveland.

There was no penalty thrown during the game, but savvy viewers picked up on it and flooded social media with video captured of Peters letting one fly at Landry as the Browns wideout walked away from him.

The Ravens had insisted that Peters did not spit and then changed course to try and claim it was not directed at Landry intentionally, but the NFL sees it otherwise.

By the numbers: Breaking down the Browns 38-6 loss to the Ravens

By the numbers: Breaking down the Browns 38-6 loss to the Ravens

The most important numbers emanating out from M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore are 38-6. The Ravens smashed the visiting Cleveland by that lopsided score.

How did the two teams get to those contrasting figures? Here’s the story as told by the numbers…

1 – takeaway by the Browns, a Myles Garrett fumble recovery in the second quarter

2 – 3-and-outs forced by the Browns defense, one of which was aided by two Baltimore penalties

2 – missed kicks by Austin Seibert, an extra point and a field goal

3 – giveaways by the Browns, one INT and two lost fumbles

3 – 3rd down conversions by the Browns offense, on 12 attempts

3 – catches by Odell Beckham Jr., on 10 targets. He dropped two.

4 – QB hits registered by the Browns defense, per the NFL’s gamebook. That includes the team’s two sacks.

8 – Browns penalties, costing them 80 yards

9 – tackles by LB B.J. Goodson in his Cleveland debut to lead the Browns

16 – years since the Browns won their Week 1 game

41 – yards to go on one Browns possession on both 3rd and 4th down during a second-quarter drive. They did not make it.

65.0 – Baker Mayfield’s QB Rating

101 – Browns offensive yards in the first quarter. They finished with 306.

132 – combined rushing yards between Kareem Hunt (72) and Nick Chubb (60)

152.1 – Lamar Jackson’s QB Rating

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski: ‘We did a lot of things that losing teams do’ in 38-6 loss to the Ravens

Stefanski shouldered the blame for the poor overall play and the botched fake punt

A somber Kevin Stefanski greeted the media via a remote Zoom session following his NFL coaching debut, a 38-6 beatdown at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. Stefanski didn’t try to duck and hide from the embarrassing display from his team in the Week 1 debacle.

After properly crediting the Ravens, Stefanski looked in the mirror about his team.

“We did a lot of things that losing teams do,” Stefanski said. “We turned it over three times. Eight penalties, three of which I think were personal foul facemasks, which were killer. We didn’t play good complementary football,  put our defense in a tough spot a bunch.”

Stefanski shouldered the blame for the awful display.

“That’s my responsibility. That’s on me,” Stefanski said.

He also took the blame for the botched fake punt early in the game.

“Listen, that’s my responsibility. That’s on me,” Stefanski said of the ill-fated attempt on the team’s second drive. Punter Jamie Gillan got drilled and fumbled while the blocking in front of him completely failed to execute. It set up the Ravens at the Browns 23 and led to an easy field goal.

“It didn’t work out and you can put that right on me.”

As he later noted, he gets precious little time to regroup. The Browns host the rival Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night.
