Wisconsin football sent out four big-time offers this weekend

No, this is not a post detailing the Wisconsin Badgers landing a player in the class of 2022, unfortunately.

It’s a class that is starting off a lot slower than the program’s group did in 2021. But there are a lot of factors at play, most notably how COVID-19 turned the recruiting calendar on its head.

The ball will get rolling in the class soon, I will hang my hat on that.

But for now, there are several big-time offers to review from the weekend:

Wisconsin offers one of 2023’s top defensive tackles

The Wisconsin football program took a stop in Richmond, Virginia last week and offered one of 2023’s top defensive tackles. He is four-star

The Wisconsin football program took a stop in Richmond, Virginia last week and offered one of 2023’s top defensive tackles.

He is four-star recruit Joel Starlings, the class’ No. 10-ranked defensive lineman.

Starlings is also 247Sports‘ No. 135 player in the class of 2023 and No. 3 recruit from his home state of Virginia.

Other notable schools on his offer list include Georgia, Michigan State, Minnesota, Oregon, Penn State and Texas A&M.

Wisconsin has now sent 21 offers in the class. Focus now, however, is on the program’s 2022 group—a group that is sure to grow soon with only Myles Burkett currently committed to the class.

Wisconsin sends out one new 2022 offer, two in the class of 2023

The Wisconsin football program sent out three new offers during the last few days, one of which going to one of 2023’s top-ranked players.

The Wisconsin football program sent out three new offers during the last few days, one of which going to one of 2023’s top-ranked players.

Though the offers have been plentiful as of late, the same cannot be said about commitments. At this point in the 2022 recruiting cycle, the team still has three-star quarterback Myles Burkett as their only commit in the class.

Part of it can be attributed to COVID-19 extending the recruiting dead period until just recently. That said, the program will need to get things going in the summer months if they want to continue the momentum from their record-setting 2021 class.

Here is a look at the Badgers’ three offers this week:

Wisconsin football offers 2023 five-star OLB Drayk Bowen

The Wisconsin football program is after one of the nation’s best players in the class of 2023. He is OLB Drayk Bowen, a 247Sports

The Wisconsin football program is after one of the nation’s best players in the class of 2023.

He is OLB Drayk Bowen, a 247Sports five-star and the best outside linebacker in the class.

247Sports lists Bowen as 2023’s No. 29 overall recruit, again the No. 1 outside linebacker and the No. 1 player from his home state of Indiana.

Although there are four crystal ball predictions that see him choosing in-state Notre Dame, Wisconsin joins an offer sheet where they could have some traction.

Other notable programs to offer the star OLB thus far include Notre Dame, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, Tennessee and Texas.

Wisconsin offers 2023 five-star DE Brenan Vernon, two other players in the class

The Wisconsin football program offered three players in the class of 2023 yesterday, the offers bringing their total in the class up to 11.

The Wisconsin football program offered three players in the class of 2023 yesterday, the offers bringing their total in the class up to 11.

Most focus now is on the 2022 recruiting cycle, with the Badgers only having quarterback Myles Burkett currently committed to their class.

But one of their offers from yesterday is noteworthy.

He is five-star DE Brenan Vernon, the No. 9 overall player in the class and Ohio’s No. 1-ranked recruit.

Including Brenan, here are the three class of 2023 offers the Badgers sent out yesterday:

Son of NBA player ranked No. 1 … and it isn’t Bronny

DaJuan Wagner Jr. is the top-rated recruit for the Class of 2023.

The list of top recruits for the Class of 2023 has been released by 247sports.com. A son of an NBA player is in the top spot and it isn’t Bronny James, son of LeBron.

The No. 1 recruit per the list is Camden (NJ) High’s DaJuan Wagner Jr,, a 6-foot-3 point guard.

Per 247sports:

As the No. 1 prospect in the class, Wagner Jr. appears to be in the mix to make it three generations of McDonald’s All-Americans in one family, which would be a first.

Wagner’s high school coach is Rick Brunson, who was a McDonald’s All-American in his own right, is also the father of Jalen Brunson who was a McDonald’s All-American that starred at Villanova and is now in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks.

Wagner’s grandfather, Milt, as well as his dad, Dajuan, played in the NBA.

Bronny, who plays for Sierra Canyon, is in the 30 slot.

USC basketball: Trojans in top-10 for Instagram star Mikey Williams

The USC Trojans are among the top-10 schools for the National Freshman of the Year, Mikey Williams, a point guard out of San Diego.

The USC Trojans are continuing to look for ways to upgrade their guard play in the future, and going after the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year is a darn good start.

Mikey Williams, one of the best prospects in the class of 2023 and already an Instagram sensation, listed his top 10 schools in a tweet on Wednesday evening and USC made the list.

The Trojans were included alongside Arizona State, Memphis, San Diego State and Kansas, as well as five HBCUs: Alabama State, Hampton, NC Central, Tennessee State and Texas Southern.

Williams is among a handful of recruits who is considering attending a Historically Black College in order to help bring notoriety to these universities in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Williams has posted numerous high-flying dunking videos as a young teenager, helping his accrue over 2.3 million followers on Instagram.

Lastly, Williams is pretty good at basketball as well, earning the No. 3 ranking in the class of 2023 by ESPN after averaging 29.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game his freshman season in San Diego.
