Alabama football very early projected defensive depth chart for 2021

Here is a really early projection for how Alabama football’s defensive depth chart could shake out in 2021. Can the Crimson Tide repeat?

The time to celebrate another national championship under Nick Saban has come and gone. Now, it’s time to shift the focus to the fall of 2021, especially if Alabama is going to make another title push.

We started with a projected depth chart for the offensive side of the football on Saturday. Now let’s turn to the defensive side. Alabama will suffer the loss of Dylan Moses, Patrick Surtain II, Christian Barmore and potentially LaBryan Ray and Ben Davis.

With that said, there is still a ton of talent coming back on defense, which could be crucial with so much roster turnover on the offensive side of the ball. Check it out below.

*Note: True freshman are listed at the bottom of their respective position groups. Once we start to get an idea of where they could land on the depth chart in Year 1, we will make adjustments.

The season has come and gone for the Alabama Crimson Tide. That means the next step is the 2021 NFL Draft and determining which players choose to leave early.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season didn’t count towards a player’s eligibility. That means that each player has the option to come back for another season, which adds a new wrinkle to play declarations and returnees.

In order to give fans an easy way to keep up with the players who are choosing to leave — and keep up with the ones who are choosing to return — we decided to create a NFL draft declaration tracker.

It will be updates as we learn more, but check out the information we have so far. Enjoy!

10 Alabama players who need to step up in 2020

Alabama is looking to make it back to the College Football Playoff in 2020. These 10 players will be crucial factors in that quest.

Alabama is fresh off its first season without making the College Football Playoff since its creation prior to 2014. In order to make it back and, once again, compete for a national championship in 2020, the Crimson Tide is going to need several players to step up.

Below is a collective list of 10 of those players who will be heavily relied on this upcoming season, and it’s likely that those included will be deciding factors in determining just how good — or how bad — Alabama will be.

First up, a second-year safety…

1. Jordan Battle, Safety

Jordan Battle is the only safety on the roster with starting experience after earning four starts as a true freshman in 2020. Now, he’ll be relied on as one of the leaders on defense while becoming more of a consistent playmaking presence.

Is he Alabama’s next big-time safety prospect? Absolutely.

Alabama player snapshot: No. 4 Christopher Allen

Redshirt junior Christopher Allen is the next man up on Alabama football’s player snapshot, which highlights each scholarship player.

As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.

Each day, we’ll release anywhere from 2-4 player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.

Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.

Next up on the list is outside linebacker Christopher Allen out of Baton Rogue (La.).

Height: 6-4 / Weight: 250

Class: Redshirt Junior

Hometown: Baton Rogue (La.)

High School: Southern University Lab School

HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 104 overrall / No. 4 ILB / No. 5 FL

HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 216 overrall / No. 14 OLB / No. 9 FL

Analysis: The 2020 season is going to be Christopher Allen’s time to shine. After being limited by injuries and a rotational role through his first three seasons on campus, Allen will not be the most experienced edge player on the roster.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder brings a balanced approach to the field, as he’s shown flashes of being a productive pass rusher while also being effective at stopping the run.

So far in his career, Allen only has 17 total tackles to go along with 5.5 tackles for loss and half a sack, but his experience within the program will be his biggest asset. Expect that career sack number to increase dramatically this upcoming season.

Also expect Allen’s presence to be extremely beneficial for the young group of edge players coming in from the 2020 recruiting class, which includes Will Anderson, Chris Braswell, Drew Sanders and Quandarrius Robinson.
