Swinney praises Bentancur, ‘might be as good of a kid as we’ve ever signed at that position’

Bentancur has caught the attention of his head coach.

Fans love to hear when freshmen get praise for their play, with Dabo Swinney sharing some heavy praise for a new tight end to the program who has already flashed for Clemson’s head coach.

Recently, when discussing how the Tigers’ tight end room is one of the best in the program right now, Swinney took the time to share how pleased he’s been with what he’s seen from freshman tight end Christian Bentancur. According to Swinney, he may just be as good a player as they’ve ever had at the position.

“I tell ya, Bentancur, man – he might be as good of a kid as we’ve ever signed at that position,” Swinney said. “I mean, that’s pretty strong praise. We’ve got a strong room.”

A four-star recruit in the 2024 class, Bentancur was one of the top tight ends in the class. According to 247Sports composite rankings, he ranked as the No. 6 tight end and No. 74 overall player in the class. He ended his high school career at Marian Central Catholic High School (Woodstock, Illinois) with 231 receptions for 3,867 yards and 51 touchdowns.

“That kid, he’s gonna be a fun one,” Swinney said. “He’s going to be a fun one to coach and watch develop. He’s just a natural player.”

Clemson could have another great tight end on their hands.

12 Tigers in the final Rivals250 rankings for the 2024 class

12 Tigers landed in Rivals final Rivals250 rankings for the 2024 recruiting class.

For some teams, recruiting means a lot. For a team like Clemson, it means that much more.

Modern college football is very different from what some of us remember growing up. Year after year, the game changes and differs from what we once knew. Right now, the transfer portal is going wild as teams use the portal to build their teams. Each team is different with the transfer portal, but if you look at a team like Florida State from 2023, a majority of a team’s starting lineup can come directly through the portal.

That is not the case for Clemson, who simply doesn’t use the transfer portal often (or even at all, depending on the season). Therefore, recruiting means everything for Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program. Luckily for Clemson fans, Swinney and his staff are great at recruiting.

Rivals recently released their final Rivals250 rankings for the 2024 class, with 12 Tigers making the rankings. Here is a look at each of those Tigers and where they rank.

Where Clemson ranks in ESPN’s updated 2024 recruiting class rankings

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson coaching staff are building a strong 2024 recruiting class.

The Clemson football program year after year recruits with the best of the best, and things are not changing in the 2024 recruiting class.

ESPN does their class recruiting rankings a little differently than others, updating them far less than 247Sports or On3, whose class rankings are regularly updated as commitments are announced. ESPN recently released their updated class rankings ($), with Clemson just outside of the top ten, ranking No.11.

“The Tigers have built a strong foundation for their 2024 class with several ESPN 300 commitments, including one of the top TE prospects in Christian Bentancur. He can be a well-rounded playmaker with his size (6-5, 240), aggressiveness as a blocker and hands and body control as a receiver. Bryant Wesco is a sharp route runner from Texas who can create separation and get open with his quickness. Landing Sammy Brown out of Georgia was a huge pickup. A well-rounded five-star athlete who excels in wrestling and track, Brown can be a sideline-to-sideline playmaking presence. Noah Dixon is a safety with good ball skills who can also support the run well with his tackling abilities. Tavoy Feagin out of Florida is another nice four-star addition to the secondary, as he is a corner with excellent quickness who is also not afraid to mix it up and be physical.”

The Tigers currently have 17 commits in the 2024 class, headlined by five stars Sammy Brown and Bryant Wesco. They have the second-highest-ranked class in the ACC right now, with Florida State ahead with the No.6 ranked class.

More work still needs to be done, but this has been an excellent start for Swinney and his coaching staff.

Headlined by two five-star recruits in linebacker Sammy Brown and wide receiver Bryant Wesco, the Tigers have future stars ready to make an impact for the Tigers in this class. The most recent commitment in the class came from four-star cornerback Corian Gipson, who committed to the Tigers Saturday, choosing Clemson over top competitor Texas.

Now ranked the No.6 class in On3’s 2024 industry team recruiting class rankings, the Tigers have talent committed across multiple positions of need in this class. Here is a look at all 17 recruits committed to Clemson right now grouped by their position.

Top 5 TE in 2024 class set to announce commitment Friday; Oregon stands as finalist

One of the best tight ends in the 2024 class will announce his commitment on Friday, with the Ducks as a finalist alongside Ohio State, Clemson.

The Oregon Ducks are in the running to land one of the best tight ends in the 2024 class, and they will find out their fate on Friday.

4-star TE Christian Bentancur, the No. 4 TE in the 2024 class and No. 102 overall player in the nation, released his final three schools of Oregon, Ohio State, and Clemson earlier in the week, and he will announce his commitment on Friday. Bentancur has yet to take an official visit to Eugene, but he’s developed a close relationship with the coaching staff.

“The main coach I talk to is coach Mehringer, but I one thing that makes them stand out is how close multiple coaches on the staff have gotten to me,” Bentancur told On3.

On Friday morning at 12:30 p.m. CT, Bentancur will announce his commitment.

2024 Four-star tight end puts Ohio State in top three

Ohio State makes the final cut for one of the top tight ends in the nation. #GoBucks

After missing on tight end C.J. Dippre in the transfer portal, Ohio State received some good news in the form of a top-10 tight end in the class of 2024. Christian Bentancur of Woodstock, Illinois, announced he has narrowed his list to three schools: Clemson, Oregon and Ohio State.

Bentancur is a four-star prospect ranked fourth among tight ends in the class according to 247Sports composite. As a sophomore at Marion Central Catholic, Bentancur hauled in 49 receptions for more than 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Illinois native visited Columbus twice, once in June and again in September for the win against Notre Dame. While no predictions have been made, the On3 recruiting prediction machine, which factors such things as social sentiment, visits and historical trends, gives OSU a slight advantage in earning a commitment from Bentancur.

It’s still very early in the process, and, as we’ve seen over and over again, a  commitment doesn’t mean a whole lot. Regardless, it’s good to know that the Buckeyes have made a good impression.

Maybe being a Midwest kid will play Ohio State’s favor when it’s all said and done. Until then, the Buckeyes will have plenty of competition from the Ducks and Tigers to land the young man’s services.

Tigers offer 2024 four-star tight end

The Tigers have reached out to one of the top tight end’s in the 2024 cycle.

[autotag]Christian Bentancur[/autotag] is a 2024 four-star tight end from Woodstock, Illinois where he plays for Marian Central Catholic School. The Hurricanes finished last season 3-5.

Bentancur finished the season with 49 receptions for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore. Thursday was the first day that coaches could be in contact with 2024 recruits, so [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] got to work.

Film Analysis: Bentancur is a big guy that isn’t afraid to climb the ladder to make a great catch. When you are 6-foot-6 and can jump out of the gym, you will always be a red zone threat. He’s also as strong as an ox and excels at run blocking.
