How Falcons 5-year, $105M extension with Chris Lindstrom impacts Eagles’ Isaac Seumalo

The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement today on a five-year, $105 million deal with Chris Lindstrom and we’re looking at how that impacts Isaac Seumalo

The Atlanta Falcons just reset the mark at the offensive guard position, agreeing to terms on a five-year, $105 million extension with guard Chris Lindstrom, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported on Monday.

Lindstrom, who was drafted by Atlanta in 2019 and became a starter in 2020, will now earn $63 million guaranteed and will have an average annual salary of $21 million.

The $21 million average puts Lindstrom ahead of the Colts’ Quenton Nelson ($20 million), while the $105 million total puts him ahead of Nelson as well.

With the legal tampering period now underway and the new league year set for Wednesday afternoon, we’re looking at how Lindstrom’s new deal impacts Isaac Seumalo.

Colts’ Quenton Nelson no longer NFL’s highest-paid guard

Big Q no longer holds the title of NFL’s highest-paid guard.

Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson held the title of the NFL’s highest-paid guard for a whole seven months before relinquishing the crown this offseason.

Back in September, the Colts signed Nelson to a record four-year deal worth $80 million with $60 million guaranteed and an average annual value (AAV) of $20 million. That was the going rate for elite guards in the NFL for the last half-year.

Now, that title belongs to Atlanta Falcons guard Chris Lindstrom, who agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $105 million with $63 million guaranteed and an AAV of $21 million.

Nelson set the bar for guards last season, but in the true nature of the NFL, it wasn’t long before another player set the new record for a contract at the position.

As the salary cap continues to rise year over year in the NFL, the contracts will continue to get bigger. Hopefully, Nelson’s contract will look more like a bargain sooner rather than later.

Falcons sign Chris Lindstrom to five-year, $105M extension

The #Falcons have re-signed right guard Chris Lindstrom to a five-year, $105 million extension, per report

The Atlanta Falcons have locked up right guard Chris Lindstrom to a five-year extension worth $105 million, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Lindstrom, a first-round pick in 2019, has blossomed into one of the league’s elite interior offensive linemen. The Falcons picked up his fifth-year option last offseason, and now with this five-year extension, the team has him under contract through 2028.

#Falcons RB Tyler Allgeier was named to PFWA’s All-Rookie Team and OL Chris Lindstrom made the All-NFC Team

The awards keep rolling in for Falcons guard Chris Lindstrom as the former first-round pick was voted onto the Professional Football Writers of America‘s 2022 All-NFC team.

Lindstrom was also selected for the Pro Bowl and named to the AP All-Pro second team for his stellar 2022 campaign.

The fourth-year lineman is entering the final year of his rookie contract and the team could look to sign him to a long-term extension this offseason. Lindstrom wasn’t the only Falcons player recognized by the PFWA, though.

Rookie running back Tyler Allgeier was named to the PFWA’s All-Rookie team, along with Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker.

Allgeier rushed for 1,035 yards on 4.9 yards per carry with three touchdowns this season. The former BYU star broke the team’s rookie rushing record and appears to be the future at the running back position. This is even more impressive when you consider Allgeier was a healthy scratch for Week 1.

While the jury is still out on the team’s 2022 NFL draft class, Allgeier has proven to be an absolute steal as a fifth-round draft pick.

Falcons’ Chris Lindstrom was PFF’s highest-graded player in 2022

#Falcons RG Chris Lindstrom was Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded player in 2022

The Atlanta Falcons had a tough season, finishing 7-10 for the second year in a row and missing the playoffs for a fifth straight season. While the team’s struggles were to be expected, Atlanta made incredible progress in the ground game.

The Falcons rushed for 2,718 yards in 2022, averaging 159.9 yards per game and 4.9 yards per carry. More importantly, the success of the running game gave this team a much-needed identity.

Right guard Chris Lindstrom led the way as Atlanta physically dominated its opponents up front. Lindstrom wasn’t voted into the NFLPA Players’ All-Pro Team, but the fourth-year lineman finished 2022 as Pro Football Focus‘ highest-rated player.

PFF gave Lindstrom an overall offensive grade of 95. Check out the five highest-graded players from the 2022 season below.

Offensive linemen rarely get the shine they deserve unless they are among the very best at their position. Fortunately for the Falcons, Chris Lindstrom may very well be the best guard in the NFL.

Not only has the former first-round pick established himself as Atlanta’s top offensive lineman, Lindstrom’s off-the-field contributions helped him earn the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination for 2023.

In Week 17, the Falcons defeated the Cardinals by one point, ending a four-game losing streak. Lindstrom earned the team’s highest Pro Football Focus grade (93.5) in Sunday’s win, despite being flagged for the first holding penalty of his career.

Falcons RG Chris Lindstrom makes 2023 NFC Pro Bowl roster

#Falcons RG Chris Lindstrom named to 2023 NFL Pro Bowl amid stellar campaign.

It’s extremely difficult for NFL offensive linemen to get recognition unless they absolutely dominate their position, but that’s just what Falcons right guard Chris Lindstrom has done this season.

Each week, Lindstrom has been among the team’s most consistent players. Not only was the former first-round pick selected as Atlanta’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, Lindstrom has officially been voted into his first Pro Bowl.

The NFL released the 2023 NFL Pro Bowl rosters on Wednesday evening and Lindstrom was one of three guards named to the NFC roster. He was also the only Falcons player selected, which isn’t totally surprising considering the team is 5-9.

Check out the full list of offensive players voted to the NFC roster below.

The Atlanta Falcons have selected right guard Chris Lindstrom as their 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. Lindstrom was drafted by the Falcons in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft and has developed into one of the league’s truly elite offensive lineman.

The award, as explained below, recognizes players who also make a difference off the field:

“The winner of the award each year receives a $250,000 donated to the winner’s charity of choice. All other 31 nominees receive up to $40,000 donated to their charity of choice. All donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide. The 2022 winner will be revealed during NFL Honors ahead of Super Bowl LVII.”

Lindstrom has been making a difference since joining the team in 2019, both on and off the field:

“The fourth-year offensive lineman also cooked dinner for a breast cancer fighter and her family at the Atlanta Falcons Dazzle & Dine event, provided Thanksgiving meals to those in need on Atlanta’s Westside during Falcons Feast, took part in the organization’s visit to Joint Base Lewis-McCord in Washington, spent time with hospital staff at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for their season kickoff party and cleaned Anderson Park on Atlanta’s Westside during the Falcons Hometown Huddle event,” wrote Falcons communications coordinator John Deighton.

Secret Superstars for Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season

Taysom Hill, Rhamondre Stevenson, Daymi Brown, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Baron Browning are among Doug Farrar’s Secret Superstars for Week 5.

There are all kinds of reasons that NFL players are underrated and unsung.

Perhaps they’re in systems that don’t best show their skills. Maybe they’re buried on a depth chart. Or, they’re in somebody’s doghouse, and their coaches can’t see their potential. Or, their efforts are relatively unnoticed among their more celebrated teammates. Sometimes, young players haven’t quite put it all together, but there are enough flashes to make you sit up and take notice, and when it does work, it’s all good.

Week 5 of the 2022 regular season featured players at just about every position who showed up and showed out despite their underrated statuses, and here at Touchdown Wire, it’s our job to point them out.

Rhamondre Stevenson, Dameon Pierce, Daymi Brown, Taysom Hill, Ethan Pocic, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Matt Judon, Baron Browning, Osa Odighizuwa, Teair Tart, Dre Greenlaw, Camerson Dantzler, and Caden Sterns are our Secret Superstars for Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season.

Here’s why each of them made the cut.
