Tracking where MSU’s former coaching staff has landed:

Michigan State went under a major overhaul, obviously, when they hired Jonathan Smith to take over the Spartan football program. With the new changes to the Spartan football program, came a full overhaul within the MSU coaching staff.

While we know what the new staff looks like, it is time to look at the old staff, and where members of the old staff ended up in their new coaching positions.

Alabama to hire former Colorado OL coach Chris Kapilovic, per report

Former Colorado OL coach Chris Kapilovic is reportedly headed to the SEC

There was a contingent of Colorado football followers, myself included, that wanted to see the Buffs go back to the well with their next offensive line coach. CU ended up landing a great coach in longtime NFL lineman Phil Loadholt, but former Colorado OL coach Chris Kapilovic was an intriguing name. Alabama and new head coach Kalen DeBoer must agree as the Crimson Tide are reportedly set to hire Kapilovic as its new offensive line coach, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Under former CU head coach Mel Tucker, Kapilovic coached the Buffs’ offensive line in 2019 before following Tucker to Michigan State in 2020. During that 2019 season, the Buffaloes rushed for 1,804 yards on 436 carries, good for 4.1 yards per carry. Kapilovic’s O-line allowed only 26 sacks that year, less than half of the 56 Colorado allowed in 2023.

After spending four seasons with the Spartans, Kapilovic joined Baylor’s staff in December of 2023, but DeBoer has now seemingly pried him to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama hires former Baylor assistant coach Chris Kapilovic as new offensive line coach

According to Pete Thamel, Alabama will be hiring Baylor offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic to be the team’s new offensive line coach. Kapilovic served the last three seasons as Michigan State’s offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

Alabama had a huge void to fill when offensive line coach Scott Huff left Tuscaloosa to become the offensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Now, that void has been filled.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Alabama is set to hire Baylor offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic to serve as the team’s offensive line coach moving forward.

Kapilovic has made multiple stops in the coaching landscape. More notably, he has served as an offensive line coach at North Carolina, Michigan State, and Colorado.

Alabama struggled to protect quarterback Jalen Milroe at times last season. It often resulted in sacks. Altogether, Alabama allowed 49 sacks on the season. Typically, that number is cut in half. Will Kapilovic be able to fix the offensive line issues? It will be interesting to see how he retools and reshapes the offensive line moving forward.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program.

Michigan State football OL prospect chooses elsewhere, focus shifts to Ohio twins

MSU lost out on prospect Nathan Roy, but still have a chance to finish their 2024 OL class strong:

Michigan State was all in on several offensive line prospects this summer, with one being Wisconsin native Nathan Roy. Roy officially visited Michigan State last weekend, and UCLA last month, and it appeared that it was going to be a head to head battle between the Spartans and Bruins. In an unforeseen turn of events, Roy made the decision to commit to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on his final visit this weekend, leaving the Spartans and Bruins behind.

Now, all of MSU’s attention will go to Cincinnati twins Charlton and Mercer Luniewski, who are set to visit this upcoming weekend. The talented twins could be the last two pieces of the Spartans 2024 offensive line class, and after a plethora of camp MVP awards this summer, would be a great finishing piece.

The Spartans will also host top-100 4-star DeAndre Carter, but competition will be stiff in his recruitment.
