Buccaneers’ Week 16 inactives

Take a look at the list of inactives for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they head into today’s Week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans.

Here are your inactives today for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they prepare to take on the Houston Texans at home.

The Bucs will be playing on NFL Network, meaning they have a chance to show a national audience that they are the real deal after winning four-straight games. They’ll face the daunting task of trying to extend their winning-streak without their top two receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, both of whom have been sidelined for the remainder of the year with hamstring injuries.

That means Jameis Winston will be working with a bunch of unknowns. Winston is chasing history as he’s looking to become just the eighth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards in a season. The good news for Winston is that statistically, he’s performed well in Week 16 games. The bad news, however, is that the Bucs are 0-4 in those games.

With a win today, Houston will clinch the AFC South and punch their ticket to the postseason. They have more on the line than the Buccaneers, and given Tampa Bay’s depleted offense, the Texans may have the advantage today over the red-hot Bucs.

Texans-Bucs Injury Report (Dec. 19): See who’s in and who’s out for Week 16

See the latest injury report for the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of Saturday’s Week 16 matchup.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head into Week 16’s matchup against the Houston Texans as home underdogs. But, the Texans, who are still looking to clinch a playoff spot, shouldn’t underestimate this Bucs team.

Tampa Bay is riding a four-game winning-streak into Saturday’s game on NFL Network, and they’d love nothing more than to upset the Texans on a national stage.

Quarterback Jameis Winston has had back-to-back games of 450-plus yards, and is now on pace to throw the fourth-most yards in a season in NFL history (5,226). But, with wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin out for the remainder of the season, he’ll have to rely on some reserves to help him get there.

With that, here is the latest injury report for both teams ahead of Saturday.

Bucs teammates show Chris Godwin love on Instagram for his Pro Bowl selection

See what Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates had to say on Instagram after wide receiver Chris Godwin posted about his Pro Bowl selection.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already ruled wide receiver Chris Godwin out for Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans with a hamstring injury suffered in last week’s win over the Detroit Lions.

Godwin, the third year receiver out of Penn State, will likely be held out over the team’s final two games rather than risk further injury. If it is the end of Godwin’s season, he finishes the year with career highs across the board in receptions (86), receiving yards (1,333) and touchdowns (9).

His breakout season not only earned him the respect of fantasy football owners everywhere, but also a spot in the Pro Bowl, his first selection. Godwin joined fellow receiver Mike Evans and linebacker Shaq Barrett on the roster.

Godwin took to Instagram the other day to voice his appreciation.

Two of his fellow Bucs teammates replied to his IG post, showing their support.

Given the hamstring injury, it remains to be seen whether or not Godwin participates in the event.

Tampa Bay will look to down the Texans on Saturday with a depleted receiving corps to pull their record above .500 for the first time this season.

Jameis Winston is on pace to throw the fourth-most yards in a season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has a shot at history over the final two weeks of the 2019 regular season.

Coming into 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were looking for clarity on the future of their quarterback Jameis Winston. The Bucs picked up Winston’s fifth-year rookie option without offering an extension, wanting instead to see how the quarterback would perform in his first year under QB guru Bruce Arians.

While things got off to a rocky start, Winston has played some of his best football to date over the past month. After last Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 450 or more yards in consecutive games.

With the big performance, Winston pulled his league-leading passing total to 4,573 yards, meaning he’s just 427 yards away from the exclusive 5,000-yard club. Not only is the Bucs quarterback now on pace to surpass 5,000, but he’s projected to finish the year with 5,226 yards. That total would be the fourth-most all time for a single season.

While it’s funny to imagine Winston’s name sitting among these three greats, you have to give the quarterback credit. Despite a league-leading 24 interceptions, Winston has also thrown 30 touchdowns and has proven he isn’t afraid to throw the ball, even if he gets picked on his first pass attempt.

You’d certainly feel more confident about Winston reaching 5,226 yards if he had his top two receivers on the field. Both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have suffered hamstring injuries that will sideline them for the rest of the year. Winston will be working with a cast of relatively unknowns this Saturday against the Houston Texans.

Fortunately, though, the Texans pass defense ranks 28th, surrendering an average of 266.1 yards per game. Considering how well Winston’s played lately, he could have a field day against Houston’s secondary.

Three Bucs have already been ruled out for Week 16’s game vs. Texans

Find out which three players the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ruled out for Sunday’s contest against the Houston Texans.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are riding a four-game winning-streak heading into Sunday’s Week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans, but their ship is taking on water as they limp towards the finish line.

After already losing wide receiver Mike Evans for the year from a hamstring injury he suffered on a 61-yard touchdown against the Colts in Week 14, the Bucs lost Chris Godwin and Scotty Miller to hamstring injuries following Week 15’s win over the Lions.

While quarterback Jameis Winston continues his quest for 5,000 passing yards, he’ll have an extremely depleted receiving corps at his disposal Saturday. The Bucs have already gone ahead and ruled three players out for the Texans game, including two receivers.

Both Evans and Miller have been placed on IR already.

It’ll be interesting to see if this high-powered Bucs offense can keep up the pace with a bunch of reserves. It’s starting to feel more and more like a preseason game.

Bucs officially place Mike Evans on IR

After suffering a hamstring injury in Week 14’s win over the Colts, wide receiver Mike Evans was officially put on IR today.

It was all but official that Mike Evans’ season was over when he went down with a hamstring injury in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 38-35 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14.

Upon the injury, head coach Bruce Arians said that he would be shocked if Evans made it back before the Bucs’ last game of the season against the division rival Atlanta Falcons. ESPN’s Jenna Laine later reported that Evans would most likely be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Today, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bucs have officially placed Evans on injured reserved, ending his season just one day after it was announced that Evans was selected to represent the Buccaneers in the 2020 Pro Bowl.

It should only be a matter of time before the team’s other star wide receiver Chris Godwin receives the same designation.

3 Buccaneers selected to the 2020 Pro Bowl

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had three players named to the 2020 Pro Bowl, but one name was noticeably absent.

Tuesday evening at 8pm, the NFL revealed the 2020 Pro Bowl rosters. Given the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ high-powered offense, it would have been shocking for their wide receiving duo not make the team. Both Chris Godwin and Mike Evans were selected to the team, although not listed as starters, since, as you’d expect, as they were both shut down with hamstring injuries.

Evans played 13 games this season before winding up on injured reserve, ending his season with 67 receptions, 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. In Week 12, Evans joined Hall of Fame WR Randy Moss as the only receivers in NFL history to eclipse 1,000 yards in each of their first six seasons. While Godwin’s season isn’t officially over with a similar hamstring injury to Evans, his season will most likely finish with 86 receptions, 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.

The league leader in sacks is the Bucs’ outside linebacker Shaq Barrett with 16.5, tied with Warren Sapp for the Bucs all-time record in a single season- He has two games remaining to stand alone with that record. Barrett signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers in the offseason, and after the year he’s had you can expect the Bucs to do whatever it takes to keep him on the team long-term. Coach Bruce Arians stated he ain’t going anywhere.

Jameis Winston was not selected to the Pro Bowl, which is probably the most Jameis Winston thing that could have happened. In what is nothing short of a conundrum for this season, Winston’s 4,573 passing yards is leading the NFL, his 30 touchdown passes is 2nd only to MVP front-runner, Lamar Jackson’s 33, and of course the blemish is his league-leading 24 interceptions. I’d consider it a snub that he wasn’t named to the team.

2020 NFL Pro Bowl: See which Bucs should be selected

Find out which Tampa Bay Buccaneers players should expect to find a spot on the Pro Bowl roster.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may not be going to the postseason, but they still have a lot of pride on the line these last two games.

The Bucs are riding a four-game winning-streak thanks to Sunday’s big 38-17 win over the Detroit Lions in which quarterback Jameis Winston became the first player in NFL history to throw for 450 yards in back-to-back weeks. Winston is on pace to surpass 5,000 passing yards this season, which would make him just the eighth quarterback in NFL history to accomplish that feat.

Unfortunately, Winston also leads the league in interceptions with 24, so as strong as he’s been the past few weeks, a Pro Bowl selection might not be in the cards for the quarterback when the rosters are announced tonight.

So, which Buccaneers should expect to find themselves playing in the NFL’s All-Star game? These four seem like the strongest candidates.

Godwin and Evans have both had outstanding years, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards each. While a Pro Bowl Selection definitely seems in the cards for the pair, they’ve both suffered hamstring injuries the past two weeks that will likely keep them out for the remainder of the season. Not sure if they or the team would want them playing in the Pro Bowl.

Barrett seems like a virtual lock to get selected. The first-year Buccaneer has already tied Warren Sapp for the Bucs’ single-season sack record with 16.5, which also leads the NFL.

With guys like this on the roster, the Bucs are legitimate postseason contenders heading into 2020, assuming they retain Barrett.

Bruce Arians predicted Chris Godwin’s big season back in March

See what Bruce Arians had to say about Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin all the way back in March at the Annual League Meetings.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers extended their winning-streak to four yesterday with a 38-17 win over the Detroit Lions. The Bucs are back at .500 and will play their final two games at home, a far cry from the five-game stretch they had to endure earlier in the year, in which they went just 1-4. But, Tampa Bay is 5-1 over their last six games and have a chance to finish with their first winning record since 2016.

Yesterday’s victory came at a cost, however, as wide receiver Chris Godwin left the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. This comes just one week after Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury that’ll sideline him for the rest of the year.

If it is the end of Godwin’s season, as some have speculated, he’ll finish the year with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns — career highs in all three categories. Not many people could’ve predicted such a big jump in Year 3 for Godwin, except maybe Bruce Arians, who said back in March at the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix that Godwin would be close to a 100-catch guy this season.

“I think Chris Godwin is going to be close to a 100-catch guy, especially because I think he can play in the slot. He’s never coming off the field.”

The best part of this article is that Kevin Patra of NFL.com had this to say after Arians’ quote.

“Sidebar: This is the same coach that once boasted during one of these March meetings back in 2014 that running back Andre Ellington could handle 30 touches per game, so we should take that 100-catch number with a massive salt pill.”

In Patra’s defense, he did say Godwin could make a big leap playing in Arians’ offense.

Had Godwin been healthy for the final two games, he could’ve easily approached that 100-catch mark. Still, it was a breakout season for the former Penn State receiver, and definitely a sign of things to come.

Ian Rapoport believes Chris Godwin will miss the remainder of the year

See why NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport believes Bucs receiver Chris Godwin could miss the remainder of the season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won yesterday’s Week 15 matchup against the Detroit Lions 38-17, doing so without their top wide receiver Mike Evans, who was lost for the season after suffering a hamstring injury against the Indianapolis Colts the week before.

Now, the Bucs may very well have to finish the final two weeks of the season without their top two receivers after third-year man Chris Godwin went down in the third quarter of yesterday’s game in Detroit with a hamstring injury of his own.

And, even though Tampa Bay is 7-7 and riding a four-game winning-streak, they’ve already been eliminated from the playoffs. So, with only two weeks left in the season, it seems unlikely that Godwin will come back, at least according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

If it is the end of the season for Godwin, what a season it was. He set career highs across the board in receptions (86), yards (1,333) and touchdowns (9).
