Warriors rookie salutes Steve Kerr’s 1997 NBA Finals game-winning jumper during ‘The Last Dance’

Eric Paschall chimed in on Twitter after Steve Kerr’s game-winning shot from the 1997 NBA Finals was the focus of attention in “The Last Dance” documentary.

In episode eight of “The Last Dance,” Steve Kerr’s most significant moment as a member of the Chicago Bulls was the focus of attention. While Michael Jordan was the centerpiece of Chicago’s championship dynasty, it was Golden State’s head coach who sealed The Bulls’ fate in 1997.

With 28 seconds remaining in game six of the 1997 NBA Finals, the Bulls had the ball with the game locked at 86 against the Utah Jazz. Although Jordan had a long resume of game-winning shots, the five-time Most Valuable Player dished the ball to Kerr with six seconds remaining.

Kerr drilled a top of the key jumper for the last shot of the game to give the Bulls an 88-86 lead. The Jazz turned over the final possession, sealing Chicago’s fifth championship.

After Kerr’s iconic shot was documented in the Jordan-era film, one Warriors rookie went to social media to salute his coach’s memorable moment. Eric Paschall tweeted, “big shot coach!!”

In a previous episode, Paschall chimed in on social media to share his thoughts when Kerr’s famous practice altercation with Jordan was put under the spotlight.

Along with Kerr’s game-winner in 1997, the final two chapters of The Last Dance covered Jordan’s bout with Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers, and Chicago’s back-to-back battles with the Utah Jazz.

‘The Last Dance’: Highlighting Steve Kerr’s top 5 performances with the Chicago Bulls

In five seasons with the Chicago Bulls, Steve Kerr played a key role in Michael Jordan’s second NBA championship three-peat.

Before Steve Kerr roamed the sidelines in the Bay Area, the Golden State Warriors head coach played guard alongside Michael Jordan with the Chicago Bulls.

After playing for Phoenix, Cleveland and Orlando, Kerr found a home with Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson in Chicago. The former Arizona Wildcat played a significant role in Jordan’s second championship 3-peat with the Bulls.

In five seasons, Kerr averaged 8.2 points on 50.7% shooting from the field, with 47.9% from beyond the arc. The decorated NBA champion added 2.2 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per game during his stint with the Bulls.

Throughout the airing of “The Last Dance,” Kerr’s been a featured character in the 10-part documentary. Kerr’s game-winning shot in game six of the 1997 NBA Finals, along with his infamous fight with Jordan in practice have been chronicled in the 30 For 30 series.

With the Jordan era film coming to an end, Warriors Wire looked back into Bulls’ history to highlight Kerr’s best regular-season performances with Chicago.

Interview: Analyzing Cole Kmet’s Fit with Chicago Bears

How do you evaluate the Chicago Bears selection of ND TE Cole Kmet? I was asked to do just that on the radio. Enjoy that right here!

Chicago Bears fans had mixed emotions Friday night when their team selected tight end Cole Kmet with the 43rd overall pick.  Kmet is a local product which thrills Bears fans but is far from a perfect tight end prospect despite being the first tight end off the board.

I was welcomed as a guest by colleague Joe Ostrowski, evening host at 670 The Score in Chicago.  Joe wanted to discuss my thoughts on the Kmet pick and how he’ll fit with the Bears.  It’s a strange mix of Kmet being a project at the NFL level but also likely being the most complete tight end currently on the Bears roster.

I like the pick but acknowledge the Bears issues at other positions that remain with Kmet and Utah corner Jaylon Johnson being selected Friday night.

Enjoy the interview here.

And if you’re interested I’ll be on 670 The Score again Sunday morning at 10:40 a.m. ET.  You can listen live to The Score to catch my appearance here.

Kubrat Pulev reportedly deported en route to Fury-Wilder fight

Kubrat Pulev was just trying to make it to the Wilder-Fury II card when he was deported to Bulgaria by US immigration officials.

While two top heavyweights were busy duking it out Saturday night inside the ring, one contender found himself in the throes of the U.S. immigration system.

Kubrat Pulev, a longtime contender, was deported to his home country of Bulgaria after trying to board a flight from Chicago to Las Vegas to attend the rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, which ended with Fury stopping Wilder in stunning fashion in the seventh round.

The Athletic first reported the news.

It’s not clear why Pulev (28-1, 14 KOs) was deported but it likely means he won’t be setting up training camp in the U.S. anytime soon. The Bulgarian, the mandatory challenger for one of Anthony Joshua’s titles, is tentatively slated to take on British star in June. The fight is expected to take place at either Wembley Stadium or the newly built Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This is not the first time Pulev has made negative headlines. The boxer came under fire for kissing a female reporter without consent last summer.

Steph and Ayesha Curry approve of the new All-Star Game format

Ayesha Curry posted an Instagram story of her and Steph enjoying the new format in the 2020 All-Star Game.

The NBA took a bold, yet innovative approach to the 2020 All-Star Game. Each quarter of the game, the score reset. Between Team Giannis and Team Lebron, the winner of each period won $100,000 donated to the charity of their choice.

In the fourth and final quarter, there was no clock as the teams played to a total instead of time. The leading group, after three quarters, added 24 points to their score total, and that was the goal to end the game.

At the end of the third quarter in 2020, Team Giannis led 133-124, making the game-winning total 157. The final period turned into a pick-up style battle. Both teams traded blows with Team Lebron rallying back to seal the 157-156 win on an Anthony Davis free throw.

The format provided a higher level of intensity to the exhibition game, especially in the fourth quarter, stamping the change successful.
Yet, there was still something missing from the new version of the NBA All-Star Game.

For the first time in years, the Golden State Warriors did not have a member represented in the game. Both of Golden State’s perineal All-Stars, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have combined to miss almost the entire 2019-20 season due to injury. However, even injured, Curry finished in the top-10 of Western Conference guard voting.

Although Curry wasn’t available to play in the new construction, the six-time NBA All-Star weighed in on the matter with excitement. Ayesha Curry posted an Instagram story with her husband watching the All-Star Game.

Both members of the Curry family approved of the new format of the game.

Curry is still recovering from his broken hand injury, but reports point towards a March return. If Curry can hit his return target, the Warriors will have around 20 games left this season with their two-time Most Valuable Player.

Once fully healthy next season, Curry will have the opportunity to participate in the new and entertaining All-Star Game setup.
