NFL collaborates with local artist Tahj Williams for New Orleans’ Super Bowl LIX logo

For the first time ever, the NFL collaborated with a local artist on the creation of a Super Bowl logo.

The artist who created our new logo, Tahj Williams, is the queen of her Black Masking Indian tribe in New Orleans, the home of Super Bowl LIX.

This is really cool — the NFL will hold Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome to close out its upcoming 2024 season, and for the first time the league has partnered with a local artist to design the championship game’s unique logo.

And they selected Tahj Williams, Queen of the Golden Eagle Black Masking Indians, as the artist. A specialist in intricate beadwork, Williams created a handmade logo in vibrant colors to represent Super Bowl LIX that recalls the ornate costumes she and her community assemble each year for Mardi Gras, capping off Carnival season. It’s a special design for a special event. And that title game will be here before we know it.

Saints’ helmet logo ranked among NFL’s best designs

The instant-classic New Orleans Saints’ helmet logo has been ranked among the NFL’s best designs:

It’s tough to find a more iconic helmet than the classic design the New Orleans Saints wear each week, but that isn’t stopping some from trying. And to be fair, there are some really strong looks in this league. In this helmet logos ranking from Christian D’Andrea over at For The Win, the Saints clocked in high — very high, in fact. D’Andrea put New Orleans’ helmet logo above all but two other designs across the NFL, at No. 3 overall, writing of the placement:

“Black and gold is a great combination and the fleur de lis is a lovely nod to New Orleans. Again, simpler is better.”

Can’t fault that logic. The Saints have only made minor tweaks and adjustments to their helmet designs over the years, touching up the linework here and trying out a different shade of gold there. Quality of play aside, their debut look was an instant hit, and it still carries a vintage aesthetic that deserves its place along with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys and other venerable franchises around the league.

So it’ll be interesting to see how this year’s new black alternate helmets are received. It’s already a more complicated design than what fans are used to, beyond the palette swap, including a patterned stripe running down the middle. New Orleans has done well with their throwbacks and “Color Rush” variants before. Maybe this new look hits the ground running, too.

WATCH: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reveals cleat design for ‘My Cause My Cleats’

Mahomes’ cleats were designed in part by a virtual classroom of children.

Earlier today we learned that Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will headline the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” campaign. Now, his cleat design has officially been revealed.

It’s the fifth consecutive season that NFL has done the “My Cause My Cleats” campaign and they’re teasing the biggest year yet. The league will raise money for various charity organizations and causes, auctioning off game-worn cleats designed to represent those organizations and causes.

Mahomes, of course, is representing the 15 and the Mahomies foundation with his cleats. On Tuesday, the Chiefs shared a video on Twitter of Mahomes revealing the design for his custom cleats and explaining the origin of all the individual design elements.

Apparently, Adidas helped Mahomes come up with the idea of having a classroom of kids help choose the different design elements for the custom cleats. Those kids helped choose the green grass, which represents hope for the future. They also chose design elements on the shoe representing positivity over negativity, respect and politeness. It’s a cool concept and I’m sure these cleats will be coveted when they’ve auctioned off on the NFL Auctions website.

This is just the first of many cleats worn by Chiefs players set to be revealed ahead of the team’s Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos.

When I first head the name Seattle Dragons, I got a bit of a chuckle. That is not the case anymore. The color scheme really works. The helmets have an awesome design where the dragon comes up from the bottom past the earhole. It’s just a cool overall design. Way to go Dragons!
