Week 4 Inactives: Bears S Sherrick McManis, QB Tyler Bray inactive vs. Colts

The Chicago Bears released their inactives for their Week 4 contest against the Indianapolis Colts, where there aren’t many surprises.

The Chicago Bears released their inactives for their Week 4 contest against the Indianapolis Colts, where there aren’t many surprises.

Defensive back and special teams ace Sherrick McManis won’t play after suffering a hamstring injury last Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, which is a huge loss for Chicago’s special teams.

After some crazy speculation following quarterback Tyler Bray’s promotion to the active roster, the practice squad QB is officially inactive against the Colts, which makes the move all the more puzzling.

Also inactive for the Bears are running back Artavis Pierce, receiver Riley Ridley, offensive lineman Arlington Hambright and nose tackle Daniel McCullers.

As for the Colts, former Bears tight end Trey Burton is active. Burton was activated off injured reserve this week after suffering a calf injury during training camp.

The Bears and Colts kick things off at 3:25 p.m. CT.

Bears promote QB Tyler Bray to the active roster

The Bears made a surprise roster move ahead of Sunday’s game against the Colts as they promoted QB Tyler Bray to the active roster.

The Chicago Bears have made a roster move ahead of Sunday’s Week 4 contest against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Bears have promoted quarterback Tyler Bray from the practice squad to the active roster, the team announced Saturday. That makes three quarterbacks on Chicago’s active roster with starter Nick Foles and backup Mitchell Trubisky.

The move certainly comes as a surprise given the Bears already have Foles and Trubisky on the roster.

As ChicagoBears.com notes: “Due to a provision in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that was reached in March, NFL teams can activate up to two players from their practice squad without releasing anyone, effectively increasing their active roster from 53 to 55.”

Why the Bears decided to promote Bray remains a mystery. But it could just be a precaution with COVID-19 concerns.

Trey Burton revenge game alert? Colts activate former Bears TE from injured reserve

The Bears will face off against a familiar face in TE Trey Burton when they welcome the Colts into Soldier Field on Sunday.

The Chicago Bears will face off against a familiar face when they welcome the Indianapolis Colts into Soldier Field on Sunday.

Former Bears and current Colts tight end Trey Burton has been activated from injured reserve, according to Adam Schefter. Burton had suffered a calf injury during training camp, which forced the Colts to shelve him for the first few weeks.

While Burton would normally have to wait eight weeks before being permitted to rejoin the active roster, this year those on IR only have to sit out three games before they can return to practice.

The Bears signed Burton to a four-year, $32 million contract, which included $22 million guaranteed, back in 2018. While Burton had his best season with the Bears in 2018 — 54 catches for 569 receiving yards and six touchdowns — it was ultimately his lack of availability that was his downfall.

Chicago hasn’t missed Burton much, as they’ve been riding with veteran Jimmy Graham, who has already scored more touchdowns (3) through three games than all Bears tight ends combined last season.

The Bears and Colts are slated to kick things off at 3:25 p.m. CT on CBS.

Bears vs. Colts will now be the late game on CBS in Week 4

In light of the recent events involving COVID-19, Bears vs. Colts has been moved to the late window on Sunday.

In light of the recent events involving COVID-19, the Chicago Bears will have their Week 4 contest against the Indianapolis Colts moved to the late window on Sunday.

The Bears and Colts will now kick off at 3:25 p.m. CT on CBS, where it will replace the New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs game, according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer.

As the Tennessee Titans continue to deal with an outbreak of COVID-19 within the organization, Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was the latest NFL player to test positive for the virus.

As a result, the NFL has decided to move the Patriots-Chiefs game to Monday or Tuesday. They decided to fill the prime late spot with the Bears and Colts, which will feature to teams with winning records vying to extend their winning streaks.

NFL Broadcast Map: Will Bears vs. Colts air in your area?

The undefeated Chicago Bears will face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. Will the Bears be on in your part of the country?

NOTE: Due to the postponement of the Patriots-Chiefs game and the timeslot change of the Bears-Colts game, the map below is no longer accurate.

The Chicago Bears will face the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday, where they’ll be looking to improve to 4-0 for the first time in 14 years. But they’re going to have to beat an impressive Colts team that boasts one of the NFL’s best defenses.

The Bears are coming off another improbable comeback win, this one against the Atlanta Falcons, where quarterback Nick Foles replaced a benched Mitchell Trubisky to lead the team to 20 unanswered points and the team’s third win.

Chicago will face its toughest challenge yet when they welcome in the Colts, a game that will tell a lot about both teams at the quarter mark

Do you know if the Bears will be on in your part of the country?

If you live in the green area of the map, you’ll be able to watch Bears-Colts locally at noon CT on CBS (via 506sports.com).

If you live in the Midwest, you’ll get Bears-Colts. Most of the country will get the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers game (pictured in red) as the early CBS  game with others getting the Baltimore Ravens vs. Washington Football Team (pictured in yellow).

Greg Gumbel and Rich Gannon will be on the Bears-Colts call for FOX.

The Bears and Colts kick things off Sunday at noon CT.

Bears’ Khalil Mack, Josh Woods questionable, Sherrick McManis doubtful vs. Colts

The Bears released their game designations ahead of Sunday’s tilt against the Colts, and DB Sherrick McManis is doubtful.

The Chicago Bears released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 4 match-up against the Indianapolis Colts, where the Bears will look to remain undefeated through the first four weeks for the first time since their 2006 Super Bowl run.

And looking at the injury report, along with game designations, the Bears are looking a lot better than most teams heading into Week 4.

Defensive back and special teams ace Sherrick McManis is doubtful and outside linebacker Khalil Mack and linebacker Josh Woods are questionable for Sunday’s game against the Colts.

McManis suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, and he looks to be the only Bear that won’t suit up in Week 4.

Mack has been questionable for the fourth straight week — as he was once again limited throughout the week — but there’s a 99.9% chance that Mack is ready to go against the Colts.

Woods suffered an ankle injury during Friday’s practice and is questionable for Sunday.

Bears injury report: Sherrick McManis did not practice again on Thursday

Not much has changed from Thursday’s injury report as the Bears prepare to face the Colts in Week 4.

The Chicago Bears released their second injury report of the week ahead of Sunday’s Week 4 match-up against the Indianapolis Colts, and not much has changed since yesterday.

Defensive back and special teams ace Sherrick McManis remains sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered during last Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s looking more likely that, aside from McManis, the Bears should be full speed against the Colts.

Outside linebacker Khalil Mack (knee) and safety Deon Bush (groin) remained limited in practice, but both will likely be good to go Sunday against the Colts.

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, linebacker Danny Trevathan, tight end Jimmy Graham, right tackle Bobby Massie and receiver Ted Ginn Jr. were all full participants Thursday following a scheduled veteran resting day on Wednesday.

Bears injury report: Sherrick McManis DNP, Deon Bush limited in Wednesday’s practice

Chicago Bears released their first injury report on Wednesday ahead of their Week 4 contest against the Colts.

The Chicago Bears released their first injury report on Wednesday ahead of their Week 4 contest against the Indianapolis Colts. And unlike last week, there are some injuries worth monitoring heading into Sunday.

Defensive back and special teams ace Sherrick McManis did not practice with a hamstring injury sustained during last Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

For the fourth straight week, outside linebacker Khalil Mack was limited with a knee injury. But he’s played all three games thus far, and he’s looked plenty healthy. Safety Deon Bush was a new addition to the injury report, as he was limited with a groin injury.

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, inside linebacker Danny Trevathan, tight end Jimmy Graham, right tackle Bobby Massie and receiver Ted Ginn Jr. all had veteran rest days for the Bears.

Running back David Montgomery (wrist), safety Tashaun Gipson (neck) and inside linebacker Josh Woods (ankle) were all listed on the injury report but were all full participants in Wednesday’s practice.

2020 Bears Schedule Breakdown: Indianapolis Colts

The Bears will host the Colts in Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season. Let’s review the Colts offseason.

Nearly four years will have passed by the time the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts meet in Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season. The two, of course, met in Super Bowl XLI, with three other meetings since then. The rosters look drastically different as historical figures like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison on the Colts side have both retired.

The Bears, too, have seen a new generation of defensive talent come through after Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and Charles Tillman all have moved on.

The Colts were rocked at the beginning of the 2019 season when Andrew Luck suddenly retired, leaving them scrambling at the quarterback position. Jacoby Brissett led them to a 7-9 record, and with the addition of Philip Rivers in the offseason, the Colts are primed to make another run at the postseason.

Key Additions:

QB Philip Rivers, DT DeForest Buckner, TE Trey Burton, DT Sheldon Day, CB Xavier Rhodes

Key Losses:

TE Eric Ebron, OL Josh Andrews, WR Devin Funchess

2019 Offensive Rankings:

Total Offense (25), Rushing Offense (7), Passing Offense (30)

2019 Defensive Rankings:

Total Defense (16), Rushing Defense (7), Passing Defense (23)

Season Series:

Colts 24-19

What have you done for me lately?

The Colts have taken three out of the last five contests, but they haven’t won at Soldier Field since 2004. Before that, the Colts’ last victory at Soldier Field came in 1975 when they were still located in Baltimore, and Bert Jones was under center.

Key Stats:

Despite leaving Chicago with a victory last year – although thanks should be in order for Eddy Pineiro – Philip Rivers has a career 84.5 quarterback rating against the Bears, the second-lowest of any team with at least a four-game sample size.

It will also mark the first time that Chuck Pagano game-plans against his former employer.

Jay Cutler’s top 5 moments as a Chicago Bear

Jay Cutler will forever be a lightning rod for Bears fans, but there’s no doubt he had plenty of memorable and exciting moments in Chicago.

April 2nd will always mean something to Chicago Bears fans; the anniversary of when the team acquired its quarterback of the future when they traded for Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal.

The move was widely celebrated as it gave the Bears their first true franchise quarterback since Jim McMahon in the 1980s and hope that they would return to the Super Bowl with a bonafide offense.

Now, 11 years later, Cutler has since retired from the league after playing eight seasons in Chicago with mixed results. He became the Bears’ all-time leading passer in nearly every statistical category, but he struggled with turnovers at times and only led the team to the postseason once.

Cutler will forever be a lightning rod for Bears fans, but there’s no doubt he had plenty of memorable and exciting moments in Chicago. Here are my top five Jay Cutler moments as a Chicago Bear.

5) Cutler’s 42-yard TD pass to Alshon Jeffery against vs. Colts (2012)

At first glance, this may seem like an odd place to start. After all, with all the moments in his career, why choose one touchdown in the fourth quarter of a blowout victory?

This is a top-five moment for me because it’s, in my opinion, the best throw Cutler ever made as a Bear. The play counts as a 42-yard score, but in reality, the throw traveled nearly 60 yards since Cutler threw it behind the 50-yard line and into the back of the endzone. And he looked like he barely broke a sweat doing it. It’s this throw that made fans so excited to land the former Vanderbilt product.
