WATCH: Chiefs DB Deon Bush intercepts Ravens QB Lamar Jackson

#Chiefs DB Deon Bush intercepted #Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense has stepped up when it has mattered most against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. Backup safety Deon Bush was the unit’s latest hero midway through the fourth quarter when he intercepted Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in the end zone to give the ball back to Patrick Mahomes.

The play came on a second and 10 from Kansas City’s 25-yard line. Jackson stepped back in the pocket and tried to deliver a ball deep into the middle of the field to tight end Isaiah Likely, who had three Chiefs around him in coverage.

Stepped in to secure the interception, and fell into the end zone to give Kansas City possession at their own 25-yard line.

This effort by Bush may have sealed the game in the Chiefs’ favor and came at a most crucial moment in the matchup.

Stay tuned to see if Kansas City can close the game out late in the fourth quarter.

Chiefs signed two proven veterans to practice squad on Wednesday

The #Chiefs signed two tested veterans to their practice squad on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs added defensive tackle Danny Shelton and defensive back Deon Bush to their practice squad on Wednesday according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Both veterans saw action with Kansas City in the preseason and were surprise cuts on Tuesday when the team trimmed their roster to the NFL-mandated 53-player threshold.

While Shelton and Bush certainly would have preferred to make the 53-man roster instead of landing on Kansas City’s practice squad, they will have the opportunity to be elevated to play in regular season games if injuries necessitate their involvement.

Shelton was a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft and won his first Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs last season. Bush entered the league a year after Shelton in 2016 as a fourth-round selection and was also on Kansas City’s championship roster in 2022.

While neither is likely to see action in the Chiefs’ first regular season game next week, they will provide valuable depth that Kansas City can lean on as their title defense campaign progresses.

Chiefs release veterans Danny Shelton, Deon Bush

The Kansas City Chiefs released a pair of veteran defenders on Tuesday as they cut their roster to 53 players.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs parted ways with defensive tackle Danny Shelton and safety Deon Bush.

Shelton was a member of the Chiefs practice squad last season with years of experience, including a Super Bowl run with the New England Patriots in 2019. He has worked hard throughout training camp and the preseason to get in great shape and served as a mentor to the younger defensive linemen. He recorded a sack in the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the New Orleans Saints a few weeks ago.

Bush was also a member of the Chief’s Super Bowl-winning roster last season as he joined the team in 2022 after starting his career with the Chicago Bears. Bush had 11 tackles in 16 games as a reserve for the Chiefs last year. The 30-year-old former Miami Hurricane brought an extra veteran presence to the secondary unit.

WATCH: Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie tips interception to Deon Bush

Trent McDuffie and Deon Bush combined to make this amazing interception at the #Chiefs’ training camp practice session on Saturday.

In an incredible turn of events at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Saturday practice session, defensive backs Trent McDuffie and Deon Bush tag-teamed on an interception during workouts at Missouri Western State University.

The play occurred when the team was conducting throwing drills on a pass that was intended for receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The Chiefs’ official Twitter account posted a clip of the impressive combined effort between McDuffie and Bush shortly after practice ended.

Shane Buechele appeared to be the quarterback on the play, so fans can rest easy knowing that the pair of defensive backs didn’t get their moment at Patrick Mahomes’ expense.

The Chiefs’ defense started to heat up during the second week of camp once Kansas City began putting on pads for their practice sessions. Now that the unit is able to play to contact and get physical with their offensive counterparts, plays like this are becoming more routine.

Chiefs to re-sign S Deon Bush on one-year contract

Deon Bush is set to return to the #Chiefs on a one-year deal, per report.

The Kansas City Chiefs are retaining another one of their own free agents.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are re-signing safety Deon Bush on a one-year contract.  A former fourth-round draft pick in the 2016 NFL draft out of the University of Miami (FL), Bush got his NFL career started with the Chicago Bears before joining Kansas City as a free agent during the 2022 NFL offseason.

Bush appeared in all but one regular-season game for the Chiefs in 2022 (Week 13 vs. Bengals), primarily making his mark on special teams. He played 317 snaps on special teams compared to just 71 snaps on defense last season. During those games, Bush recorded 11 total tackles and one pass defended.

It’s a wise move to bring Bush back into the fold in 2023. He’s not only a good presence in the locker room, but he’s a big leader on special teams. He played the second-most special teams snaps in Kansas City only to CB Chris Lammons.

The team already added Mike Edwards to help offset the loss of Juan Thornhill. Re-signing Bush will only help reinforce the depth in the room ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury update after win over Rams

#Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided an injury update on S Deon Bush and had no other injuries to report following the Week 12 win over the #Rams.

Despite a few scary moments during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 12 win over the Los Angeles Rams, the good guys escaped the game relatively unscathed.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid briefed reporters on the injury situation following the conclusion of the game. He only had a single injury to report even though several players exited the game to be evaluated for injuries.

“Really, as far as the injuries go, Deon Bush was the only one that had anything,” Reid said. “He hurt his elbow and he should be fine, but it was hurting.”

Bush’s injury happened pretty late in the game on kickoff coverage. He was actually the last player to exit the game to be evaluated for injury. Three others left the game to be evaluated for injury at various points of the game.

L’Jarius Sneed was evaluated for a concussion after a collision with Rams RB Kyren Williams. He later returned to the game and had some of the most impactful plays on defense.

A friendly-fire incident between Willie Gay Jr. and Bryan Cook occurred in the second half, where Cook collided with Gay as he made a tackle on Williams. Gay Jr. came out for one play before going back in. Cook was evaluated in the blue medical tent on the sideline and missed a handful of plays before he went back in.

If Bush is the only injury the Chiefs are dealing with this week, they should be in good shape heading into a matchup with Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13. We’ll see if anything else pops up when the team returns to practice on Wednesday, but right now it all seems to be looking good for Kansas City after a physical Week 12 game against the Rams.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury updates after win over Titans

The #Chiefs escaped the overtime win over the #Titans with some very minor injuries per Andy Reid.

The Kansas City Chiefs escaped their Week 9 overtime victory over the Tennessee Titans without sustaining any significant injuries.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid addressed media members after the game and opened up giving them his usual run-down of the injury situation. Despite a gritty and hard-fought game, the team came out on the other side relatively injury-free, suffering only minor injuries.

“I don’t have a lot of injuries to talk about,” Reid began. “Deon Bush tweaked his left knee a little bit, but not too bad.”

Bush made multiple key tackles on special teams, including a two-yard loss on the punt return unit in the fourth quarter. It’s unclear when he hurt his knee, but it sounds like it wasn’t serious enough to keep him out of the game.

At one point during the second quarter of the game, rookie CB Jaylen Watson was injured on the field after forcing an incomplete pass against Titans WR Chris Conley. Watson was down on the field for some time before getting up and walking off under his own power. As it turns out, the injury wasn’t serious, but quite uncomfortable.

“Jaylen Watson really just got faceplanted in the dirt and got dirt in his eyes,” Reid said. “But everything worked out OK.”

You can actually see all of the dirt getting kicked up into Watson’s face in the featured image atop the article. Both players came down hard, so they’re probably lucky there wasn’t anything more substantial.

As always, there could be something else that pops up when the team returns to practice ahead of their Week 10 game next week. For now, it appears the Chiefs managed to come out of this game healthy.

Chiefs S Deon Bush’s second introductory tweet attempt had great timing

New #Chiefs S Deon Bush’s second introductory tweet showcased impeccable timing once again.

Kansas City Chiefs S Deon Bush has shown a knack for great (and comedic) timing in his first week with his new team.

Bush won the day on social media on Wednesday, March 23, sending out an introductory tweet when Chiefs fans were just finding out the news that Tyreek Hill was set to be traded to the Miami Dolphins. Bush had signed with the team earlier that day and wanted to reach out to the fans, but little did he know about the chaos set to ensue. Some of the responses he received from Chiefs Kingdom weren’t the most welcoming, prompting a follow-up tweet.

Now, days later, Bush tried again at sending an introductory tweet to Chiefs fans. His .gif choice shows his hesitation.

The great thing about this tweet is that it too had incredible timing. Moments before the tweet was sent, Chiefs fans had just learned that much-maligned veteran safety Daniel Sorensen had signed a free-agent deal with the New Orleans Saints. Fans called for Sorensen’s benching in 2021 and they’re happy to see him move onto another club.

This time around, Chiefs Kingdom was much more welcoming of their newest safety.

He even managed a response from one of Chiefs Kingdom’s own celebrity fans, who offered some great encouragement.

One of Bush’s new running mates in the secondary even assured him that it’s safe now.

Deon Bush had poor timing with introductory tweet to Chiefs Kingdom

New #Chiefs S Deon Bush’s intro tweet went awry amidst the Tyreek Hill trade.

In case you missed it earlier this morning, the Kansas City Chiefs signed former Chicago Bears safety Deon Bush on a one-year deal.

Around 10:30 a.m., Bush sent out an introductory tweet looking to get to know the fans in Chiefs Kingdom. Typically, the situation would receive a warm welcome, but this tweet had particularly bad timing and you all know exactly why.

Little did Bush realize, word had already got out that the Chiefs were set to trade star WR Tyreek Hill. Moments after Bush sent his tweet, word would come out that Kansas City was sending Hill to the Miami Dolphins in trade.

Instead of sending his tweet, forgetting about it and coming back to a warm greeting. He was hit with some very lively comments from Chiefs fans who were just learning that one of the team’s best players was being traded away.

Bush’s response to all of the comments was priceless:

Perhaps he’ll get a chance at a re-do later on when things have settled down.

Chiefs to sign free agent S Deon Bush

The #Chiefs are set to sign #Bears special teams ace Deon Bush on a one-year deal per report.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to make a few minor free agent signings to fill out their 90-man offseason roster.

Their latest signing has been a depth safety and special teams ace with the Chicago Bears for the past six seasons. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are set to sign Bears S Deon Bush on a one-year deal. A former fourth-round draft pick in the 2016 NFL draft out of the University of Miami (FL), Bush has appeared in 79 games with 12 starts for Chicago since his rookie season.

Bush actually played a few defensive and special teams snaps when the Chiefs faced the Bears back in 2019. This past year was one of his most successful yet, playing the most defensive snaps of his career. The 6-foot and 205-pound safety recorded 40 total tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended, having started in just four games throughout the season.

As for where Bush might align in the Chiefs’ defense, he played over 80 snaps in the box, over 40 snaps at slot, but over 230 snaps at free safety last season per Pro Football Focus. He seems to be a bit of a hybrid replacement for both Daniel Sorensen and Armani Watts in terms of where they play. Dave Toub will surely be happy with the signing because of Bush’s prowess on special teams. He graded out better than any K.C. special teamer in 2021, making the top 20 in PFF’s special teams grades among players with at least 200 snaps.

Don’t be surprised if Bush actually sees playing time in Kansas City. The team’s depth behind Juan Thornhill and Justin Reid are two players who haven’t played an NFL defensive snap. Bush is a bit underrated given what he’s offered Chicago in terms of depth and reliability over the years. He should be in the mix, especially when the team goes to their big nickel looks with three safeties on the field.

Does this move close the door on a Tyrann Mathieu re-signing? Not quite.
