Chiefs DL George Karlaftis earns game ball for stellar Week 15 performance

#Chiefs DL George Karlaftis won a game ball for his outstanding performance in Kansas City’s Week 15 win over the Cleveland #Browns.

The Kansas City Chiefs held the Cleveland Browns to just seven points in Week 15, thanks in no small part to their ferocious pass rush led by defensive linemen George Karlaftis, Tershawn Wharton, and Charles Omenihu.

Karlaftis was among the Chiefs’ most productive defenders in the game, collecting two of Kansas City’s five sacks that kept the Browns on their back foot.

In Week 15, the experts at Pro Football Network awarded Karlaftis a game ball for his outstanding effort against Cleveland.

For their parts, Wharton and Omenihu both tallied a single sack each and combined with Karlaftis to pressure quarterback Jameis Winston and force the veteran signal-caller to throw three interceptions.

According to PFN, the Chiefs have won 24 straight games when forcing multiple turnovers. Their last loss under such conditions came in Week 2 of Kansas City’s 2021 campaign in a matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Expect Karlaftis, Wharton, and Omenihu to play a crucial role in Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive approach in the Chiefs’ Week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans.

Is Charles Omenihu playing today? Injury updates for Chiefs DL

#Chiefs DL Charles Omenihu is dealing with a knee injury. Here are the latest updates.

Charles Omenihu rejoined the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 after recovering from a knee injury he sustained during the team’s run to Super Bowl LVIII earlier this year.

Despite his return, Omenihu was listed on the Chiefs’ injury report ahead of their Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Will Omenihu be available to help stop the Browns’ offense?

Charles Omenihu injury update

Omenihu was cleared to play in November after spending months on Kansas City’s injured reserve list to recover from a torn ACL. Though he is no longer on injured reserve, Omenihu remained on the Chiefs’ injury report this week, but was still a full participant in all of Kansas City’s practices.

How long will Charles Omenihu be out?

Omenihu is not expected to miss any more time this season and will play against Cleveland in Week 15.

Chiefs DE depth chart

The Chiefs have solid depth at defensive end, with George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, Felix Anudike-Ozomah, Joshua Uche, and Malik Herring all available to play today alongside Omenihu.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones comments on Charles Omenihu’s Week 13 return: ‘It was good to get him back’

Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro defensive lineman Chris Jones is a leader for his unit and has commanded so much attention from offensive lines this season. He spoke with reporters Thursday about his excitement to have veteran sack specialist Charles Omenihu in the lineup against the Las Vegas Raiders for Week 13.

“It was fun. It was fun; It was good to get him back. He worked his butt off to be back and to have him back out there doing what he does best, rushing the passer.” said Jones. “I think he played more than we actually planned for him to play, and he looked really, really good. So we’re excited about that. We’ve got to keep him going and continue to get better with that. You know, he can bring a lot of versatility to our pass-rush unit. So, we always can do more sacks, man.”

Jones took advantage of Omenihu’s return to the lineup with two sacks on Raiders quarterback Aiden O’Connell. He now owns 80.5 career sacks, breaking a tie with Justin Houston to move into fourth place for most
sacks in franchise history. Jones already owns the franchise record for most sacks by a defensive tackle.

Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu describes Week 13 return from ACL injury: ‘I feel good’

Kansas City #Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu describes Week 13 return from ACL injury: ‘I feel good’ | @EdEastonJr

The return of Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu during last week’s victory over the Las Vegas Raiders added another much-needed pass rusher to the lineup. He spoke for the first time on Wednesday to the media since returning to the field to reflect on his injury recovery.

“I feel good, I feel good, I don’t have any soreness; there’s no swelling,” said Omenihu. “Greg (Carbin) and Tiff (Morton) (Chiefs training staff) have been marvelous in the process of getting me back and getting to the point where I can play 34 snaps and feel good and have no trouble. Today [and] throughout the weekend, I was all good.”

Omenihu was an effective player on the defensive line when he was on the field after a suspension cost him six games to start last season. He efficiently finished third on the team in sacks and is expected to fulfill that role now that he’s back on the field and through his first game of 2024.

“I mean, my expectations were to play really well. Did I meet my own personal expectations? Probably not,” said Omenihu. “I’ve got to sometimes give myself grace (since) that I hadn’t played in…I saw somebody said 308 days. It’s been a long time since I’ve played. You’ve got to be realistic, but my foot’s on the gas, man. I’ve gotta go. That’s my mentality.”

Omenihu’s return could have affected Chris Jones’s performance, as he ended his sack drought by collecting two against Las Vegas.

Chiefs LB Nick Bolton recalls wild ending to Week 13 win over the Raiders: ‘Right place at the right time’

Kansas City #Chiefs LB Nick Bolton recalls wild ending to Week 13 win over the Las Vegas #Raiders: ‘Right place at the right time’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton stepped comfortably into the role of hero on the field during Friday’s 19-17 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. In his postgame press conference, he recalled the bizarre ending, which featured the game-ending takeaway.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure he was trying to make a pre-snap check to one of his wideouts,” said Bolton. “The center kind of had a miscommunication hiked the ball early, and the ball kind of fell on the ground. The quarterback fell on it. Kind of squirt out the back part by his feet in the right place at the right time with the football.”

In the game’s final seconds, Bolton recovered a fumbled shotgun snap to return the ball to the Kansas City offense and seal the victory. The recovery marked Bolton’s first fumble recovery of the 2024 season and the second of his career. He recalled waiting for the umpires to decide at the end of the fumble recovery.

“I thought it was an illegal shift for illegal formation; maybe I didn’t think we’re offsides. I think we were each on the snap early because it was a botched snap,” said Bolton. “So honestly, I knew we got the ball pretty much just wait for the confirmation if it was on them. I think we got a 10-second runoff for like one second left, something that would help us out in our favor.”

Bolton registered a game-high 11 tackles (10 solo), including one for loss in today’s game, tying his single-game mark for tackles in the 2024 season. He also came up big in other notable moments in the game, first breaking up a pass on third-and-four that forced a missed field goal attempt and joining Charles Omenihu to stop Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah on fourth-and-one at the start of the third quarter to stall another promising drive.

Chiefs activate two stars from injured reserve, both expected to play in Week 13 vs. Raiders

The Kansas City #Chiefs will get some significant reinforcements for their Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas #Raiders on Black Friday.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be getting some much-needed reinforcements in Week 13 for their matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday.

In a post to Twitter on Thursday, the Chiefs announced that they had officially activated running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu from their injured reserve list, paving the way for Kansas City’s stars to make a triumphant return to the field.

Pacheco was injured in Week 2 during the Chiefs’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Omenihu suffered a knee injury during Kansas City’s playoff run earlier this year and has not yet seen action in the Chiefs’ 2024 campaign.

It is unclear what role Pacheco and Omenihu will play for Kansas City in Week 13, but the Chiefs will benefit from their return, even if the team decides to ease the veterans back into action.

Stay tuned to see how Pacheco and Omenihu factor into Kansas City’s game plan for the Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh from their first loss of the season but got some positive news regarding an injured starter. Head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on Wednesday to discuss the status of starting running back Isiah Pacheco as he continues to work his way back from injury.

“We’ll see on both those two (Charles Omenihu),” said Reid. “Kind of go through the practice (and) see where we’re at this week and go from there. We’ll just have to say, a day-by-day-type thing.”

Reid also mentioned rehabbing Charles Omenihu’s progress toward a potential return, but Pacheco’s potential this weekend seems promising. During his press conference, the Chiefs head coach praised Pacheco’s work ethic and desire to return.

“He’s a spark plug, emotionally; he’s something that way, and he’s worked his tail off to get to the point he’s at now. We’ve got to keep an eye on him that way,” said Reid. “He would’ve played three weeks ago if he had his choice, but that’s sometimes how it goes. I appreciate that, though, that mentality. That’s what’s helped him get to this point.”

Pacheco was off to a productive start this season before going down with a fractured fibula in the team’s Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. A backfield alongside Kareem Hunt appears to be a matter of time as the Rutgers standout’s health is on the uptick.

First look: Key Chiefs veterans returned to practice on Wednesday

Watch this video of #Chiefs veterans Charles Omenihu, Isiah Pacheco, and JuJu Smith-Schuster making their return to practice on Wednesday.

Footage has surfaced from the Kansas City Chiefs’ Wednesday practice session that showed Charles Omenihu, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Isiah Pacheco getting reps in during the team’s drills.

These three Chiefs have had to miss games due to brutal injuries but will look to make their comebacks over the next few weeks.

Omenihu tore his ACL in last season’s AFC Championship Game, which kept him off the field through the first half of the regular season.

Smith-Schuster has had to miss time since Kansas City’s Week 7 road trip that saw the Chiefs defeat the San Fransisco 49ers. He is the most likely veteran to make his return to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Pacheco has been on injured reserve since he fractured a fibula against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

Watch all three warming up with the team in this video shared by KSHB 41 sports producer Nick Jabobs on Twitter:

Stay tuned for more details on the condition of these players as they ease back into their roles over the next few weeks.

The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed back two starters to practice on Wednesday after extended stints on injured reserve. Defensive lineman Charles Omenihu and running back Isiah Pacheco officially returned to practice, joining their teammates on the field in hopes of ramping up and getting ready for potential game action.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the statuses of his returning players ahead of practice during his weekly podium press conference.

“As far as injuries go, Charles (Omenihu) and (Isiah) Pacheco will start working today, and we’ll just gradually build them up as we go. And that’s really it. Everybody else is practicing.”

Reid also quickly responded to a reporter’s question about their status for Week 11 as: “Unlikely.”

Pacheco has been out since fracturing his fibula in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Omenihu suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship Game earlier this year against the Baltimore Ravens.

Each player’s return to the lineup will be welcomed, but there isn’t necessarily a rush to get them on the field without being 100 percent.

Chiefs veterans Charles Omenihu, Isiah Pacheco returned to practice on Wednesday

#Chiefs veterans Charles Omenihu and Isiah Pacheco returned to practice on Wednesday after stints on Kansas City’s injured reserve list.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been dealing with injuries all season, but finally got some good news on Wednesday when veteran defensive lineman Charles Omenihu and running back Isiah Pacheco returned to practice.

Both players were designated for return from Kansas City’s injured reserve list earlier this week, though their status for the Chiefs’ Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills is still in question.

Omenihu had been dealing with a torn ACL he suffered in the AFC Championship Game earlier this year.

Pacheco fractured a fibula in Week 2 of the regular season, which caused Kansas City to sign Kareem Hunt on September 16.

It seems unlikely that Omenihu and Pacheco will see the field in Week 11, though Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is sure to be chomping at the bit to get them back in action for Kansas City’s second-half push to the playoffs.

Stay tuned to see when Omenihu and Pacheco get back into action.
