Chargers Week 10 game status report: Everyone is playing

The Chargers are healthy heading into Week 10.

The Chargers had their final practice on Friday before taking on the Lions this weekend.

For the first time this season and quite some time, there are no players listed on the game status report.

Don’t believe me? Read the tweet and weep.

Joey Bosa (illness) and Justin Herbert (left finger) were full participants.

Michael Davis didn’t practice on Friday due to an illness, but he’s off the report and is expected to play Sunday.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen suffers another injury setback

The Chargers’ wide receiver room is thin heading into Week 9.

The bye week was a good time for Chargers players to rest and recover, especially the ones who had injuries.

However, that was not the case for Keenan Allen.

Allen said his hamstring worsened during the bye week when training.

He did not practice Monday or Wednesday, and it’s possible he will miss Sunday’s game against the Falcons, according to Brandon Staley.

After missing five games following the season opener, Allen returned to the lineup in the Week 7 loss against the Seahawks. He only played in the first half.

Allen said he felt great going into Week 7, but not 100%.

Nothing happened in the game,” Allen said on the injury setback. “Taking my time with it and just going through it how we planned it and just through the bye week, kind of hit it again.

“I don’t think it was a restrain or anything. It is just some more scar tissue that is trying to break off and whenever it is ready to heal, just got to let it do its own thing.”

If Allen does not play, the Chargers could be without their top three receivers. Mike Williams is out for weeks with a high ankle sprain. Joshua Palmer is out of concussion protocol, but Staley did not say if he will play.

That would leave DeAndre Carter, Michael Bandy and Jason Moore as the active receivers. Joe Reed or John Hightower would likely be promoted from the practice squad.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 7 vs. Seahawks

Chargers RB Joshua Kelley was placed on the injured reserve.

The Chargers made some roster moves ahead of their matchup with the Seahawks.

Los Angeles has placed running back Joshua Kelley on the injured reserve. In correspondence, wide receiver Michael Bandy was signed to the active roster.

In addition, kicker Taylor Bertolet was elevated from the practice squad. Bertolet will kick in place of Dustin Hopkins, who is out for two to four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Kelley will have to miss a minimum of four games, making him eligible to return in Week 12 when the Bolts play the Cardinals. Rookie Isaiah Spiller will be active on Sunday for the first time this season.

Bandy has three catches on four targets for 53 yards this season.

Mike Williams, DeAndre Carter, Jason Moore and Bandy are the healthy wide receivers heading to tomorrow. Keenan Allen (hamstring) is questionable and Joshua Palmer (concussion) is out.

Chargers’ Joey Bosa, Jerry Tillery placed on Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Chargers are at risk of being without two starters along the defensive line.

The Chargers could be without two starters along the defensive line this weekend against the Steelers.

Los Angeles has placed edge defender Joey Bosa and defensive tackle Jerry Tillery on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Reserve/COVID-19 list is for players who test positive or have close contact with someone infected.

It remains to be seen if Bosa and Tillery are vaccinated or not.

If they are, they will need to be asymptomatic and then can return once they get two negative tests 24 hours apart.

We will continue to monitor and update this situation once further news is released.

Chargers CB Ryan Smith has torn ACL

The Chargers will be without one of their special teams aces for the remainder of the season.

The Chargers will be one less cornerback after Ryan Smith suffered a torn ACL, head coach Brandon Staley announced Monday.

Smith started in place of the injured Michael Davis on Sunday against the Eagles. He sustained the knee injury towards the end of the game, and Kemon Hall took over his spot.

Signed this past offseason, Smith spent nearly all summer on the sideline nursing a core muscle injury. He made his debut for Los Angeles in Week 5 against the Browns.

The loss of Smith is a tough blow, as he supplied the Bolts with a core special teamer and defensive depth in the backend.

In 2021, Smith appeared in four games and recorded five tackles and zero interceptions.

Chargers WR Mike Williams on knee injury: ‘Everything is good’

Chargers WR Mike Williams seems to be at full health heading into Week 8 against the Patriots.

Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams has been dealing with a knee injury since the Week 5 victory over the Browns.

Following the game, head coach Brandon Staley said Williams had some swelling in his knee, which kept him out of practice the entire week leading up to the Week 6 matchup with the Ravens.

Although he was listed as questionable heading into the contest, Williams played but caught only two of five targets for 27 yards in the blowout loss.

The star-studded receiver exited the game before halftime but returned in the third quarter. Williams was on the sidelines during the fourth quarter. However, it was unclear whether that was because of his injury or how the game panned out.

Upon returning from the bye, Williams told the media on Monday that “everything is good” with his knee. He experienced tightness in his knee before the game against the Ravens, but it seems that the week off was sufficient time for it to recover.

“I don’t really feel it anymore,” Williams said. “I’m solid.”

In six games played, Williams has 33 catches for 498 yards and six touchdowns.

Chargers’ Justin Jones, Nasir Adderley, Drue Tranquill trending toward playing vs. Patriots

The Los Angeles Chargers are healthy coming off the bye week.

The Chargers are expected to get some key defenders back for the Week 8 matchup against the Patriots.

On Monday, head coach Brandon Staley said defensive tackle Justin Jones, linebacker Drue Tranquill, and safety Nasir Adderley are all trending toward returning this weekend.

The most notable of the three is Jones, who has been out since the season opener against Washington when he sustained a calf injury.

Given the ongoing issues against the run, getting Jones back should be beneficial.

Before getting hurt, Jones showed flashes in the season opener against Washington. He was the team’s best run defender the last two seasons, finishing with 39 run stops combined.

With Jones back at practice, the Chargers now have 21 days to activate him off the injured reserve.

Both Tranquill and Adderley missed the Week 6 bout against the Ravens with chest and hip injuries, respectively.

LB Kenneth Murray is also eligible to be lifted from the injured reserve, but Staley said he needs some time before he’s ready to return to the action.

Chargers S Nasir Adderley ruled out vs. Ravens

The Chargers made some roster moves ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Ravens.

The Chargers ruled out safety Nasir Adderley for the Week 6 bout against the Ravens.

Adderley, who is dealing with a hip injury, was listed as questionable on the final injury report after not practicing on Thursday and Friday.

Head coach Brandon Staley said that Adderley has been dealing with a hip pointer and it flared up last weekend against the Browns.

With Adderley out, Alohi Gilman and rookie Mark Webb will be in line to receive extended playing time.

In addition, Los Angeles promoted nose tackle Breiden Fehoko and linebacker Cole Christiansen to the active roster.

Since Drue Tranquill will not be playing, Christiansen adds depth behind Kyzir White, Nick Niemann and Amen Ogbongbemiga.

Chargers inactives: See who’s in and who’s out for Week 5 vs. Browns

Here is a look at their inactives today:

With running back Justin Jackson out with a groin injury, Joshua Kelley will make his 2021 season debut.

After missing the last three games with a shoulder injury, cornerback Chris Harris Jr. returns to the field.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 4 matchup vs. Raiders

Kenneth Murray and Justin Jones were both placed on the injured reserve.

The Los Angeles Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of Monday night’s Week 4 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Nose tackle Breiden Fehoko has been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster, the team announced Monday. Another nose tackle, Forrest Merrill, was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, as well.

Merrill and Fehoko take the spots of linebacker Kenneth Murray and defensive lineman Justin Jones, who were both placed on the injured reserve.

Murray, who was placed on the IR with an ankle injury, will miss the next three games, but he will likely be back as soon as he’s eligible, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Jones, on the other hand, has been out with a calf injury since he sustained it in the season opener against Washington. The timeline of his return remains to be seen.
