Chargers injury updates on Justin Herbert, Donald Parham

The Chargers had some injuries to Justin Herbert and Donald Parham in their victory over the Raiders.

The Chargers defeated the Raiders on Sunday, 24-17.

Along the way, Los Angeles had some injuries to quarterback Justin Herbert and tight end Donald Parham.

Starting with Herbert, his left hand got caught on the helmet of a Raiders player when he threw an interception late in the third quarter. A big splint was put on it and he returned to finish the game.

On Monday, it was deemed a fractured finger. The team said Herbert would have played this week if the Chargers had a game, according to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper. They are on a bye, so he should have plenty of time to let it heal 100%.

As for Parham, he left the game with a wrist injury in the second quarter after being targeted in the end zone. He went to the ground and came up, cradling his arm as he went to the sideline.

Brandon Staley had no firm update on Parham, adding that Parham had X-rays on his wrist after the game but did not want to reveal the results when asked. The status is to be determined, according to Popper.

Chargers HC Brandon Staley provides positive update on Mike Williams

Chargers WR Mike Williams left Sunday’s game against the Broncos with a back injury.

Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams left Sunday’s game against the Broncos with a back injury. It appears he doesn’t have an injury that will impact his availability for Saturday’s game against the Jaguars.

Williams’ x-rays that he had conducted yesterday were negative, and head coach Brandon Staley had another positive update on Monday at his media availability. Staley said that an MRI showed a contusion.

Staley said that he expects Williams to practice this week and that the indication is that he will be able to play in Jacksonville.

Not having Williams on the field would have been a considerable loss, as he’s been a key component in the passing game.

Williams had an ankle injury during the regular season that kept him out for four games and most of the Week 11 matchup with the Chiefs.

The big-bodied wideout amassed 63 catches for 895 yards (14.2 yards per reception) and four touchdowns in 13 games.

Additionally, linebacker Kenneth Murray, who left Sunday’s contest with a stinger in the second quarter, will be able to practice this week.

Chargers injuries: Positive news on Rashawn Slater, Joey Bosa

Joey Bosa and Rashawn Slater could be returning to the action this season.

Chargers head coach Brandon Staley had encouraging updates on offensive tackle Rashawn Slater and edge defender Joey Bosa as they work their way back from their perspective injuries.

Slater is currently on the injured reserve with a biceps injury, which he sustained in Week 3 against the Jaguars.

Staley said Slater is “weeks away,” but “there is a potential for him to return.”

While Slater has been sidelined, rookie Jamaree Salyer has been the starting left tackle. Getting Slater back would be a massive boost for an offensive line that’s struggled this season.

On the other side of the ball, Bosa has been sidelined since Week 3 when he sustained a groin injury, which he then had surgery on.

When asked about Bosa returning, Staley responded, “Anything’s possible.”

Staley added that Bosa could potentially return to the practice field this week ahead of Los Angeles’ matchup with the Titans.

Getting Bosa back would be huge, as he and Khalil Mack were wreaking havoc before he went down. In two games, Bosa recorded ten quarterback pressures, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Chargers’ injury updates following loss to Chiefs

Chargers HC Brandon Staley provided updates on Mike Williams, Kenneth Murray and Joshua Kelley.

The Chargers suffered some injuries to a couple of players in their loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, most notably Mike Williams.

Williams had a “re-aggravation” of his high ankle sprain, according to Brandon Staley. Staley said the team will find out a lot more in the next couple of days, but it is not considered to be significant.

Williams sustained the injury during his toe-tap catch along the sideline in the first quarter. Following the play, he came up limping and did not return to the field.

Kenneth Murray sustained a neck injury in the third quarter and remained out for the rest of the game. Staley said it was a “stinger that didn’t resolve” but is better today.

Los Angeles could be getting reinforcement in the backfield, as Joshua Kelley is expected back in practice this week, per Staley.

Kelley, who sustained a knee injury in Week 6, is now eligible to return from the injured reserve.

Chargers’ Otito Ogbonnia, Christian Covington out for season

The Chargers have gotten even thinner along the interior part of the defensive line.

The Chargers have gotten even thinner along the interior part of the defensive line.

Rookie defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia (patellar tendon) and veteran Christian Covington (pectoral) were ruled out for the season after suffering injuries Sunday night against San Francisco.

Ogbonnia’s injury was initially thought to be a knee issue, as it looked like he had suffered a non-contact injury while defending a goal line run play in the second quarter. Covington injured his pectoral in the fourth quarter.

It’s a big loss for Los Angeles, who had rotated the two players on Sunday after losing Austin Johnson for the season last week against the Falcons.

Ogbonnia had played 46% of the defensive snaps against Atlanta, his second-highest mark of the season, and was in line to play more on Sunday. Covington played 48% of the snaps on Sunday before getting injured after playing 64% against Atlanta last week.

The rookie from UCLA had 14 tackles with a tackle for loss in seven games this season. Covington had 12 tackles with a tackle for loss in four games.

Without Covington or Ogbonnia in the lineup, the Chargers were down to just three defensive linemen against San Francisco: Sebastian Joseph-Day, Morgan Fox, and Breiden Fehoko.

They remain the only three healthy defensive linemen on the roster, with Joe Gaziano and rookie Christopher Hinton on the practice squad.

Chargers CB J.C. Jackson out for remainder of season

The Chargers will be without its big-ticket free-agent pickup for the remainder of the season.

The Chargers will be without its big-ticket free-agent pickup for the remainder of the season.

Jackson sustained a ruptured patellar tendon in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, Brandon Staley said on Monday.

Jackson went to the ground with what appeared to be a non-contact leg injury while covering Marquise Goodwin late in the second quarter. He was carted off the field in an air cast and did not return.

Jackson signed a five-year, $82.5 million with the Chargers. He missed the season opener after having ankle surgery on Aug. 23. When he did return to the field, Jackson struggled.

Entering Week 7, Jackson had been targeted 23 times while allowing 17 receptions for 331 yards and three touchdowns. He had yet to intercept a pass and was credited with just a single pass breakup.

In Jackson’s absence, Michael Davis will start as the boundary corner opposite Asante Samuel Jr.

Injury updates on Chargers’ Mike Williams, Chris Rumph II

Brandon Staley provided an update on Mike Williams and Chris Rumph on Monday.

The Chargers were hit with a few injuries during the Week 7 loss to the Seahawks.

The most notable was cornerback J.C. Jackson, who suffered a ruptured patellar tendon, and as a result, will miss the remainder of the season.

But Jackson wasn’t the only player who sustained an injury throughout the game.

Wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss “weeks, not days,” according to Brandon Staley. Staley did not put a specific timeframe on Williams’ return.

Edge defender Chris Rumph II also got hurt late in the game and was diagnosed with an MCL sprain. As a result, Rumph will be out for weeks.

The Chargers are on a bye week this Sunday, allowing players who are banged up to heal. The injury bug has bit Los Angeles hard this season, so that time should be valuable.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 7 vs. Seahawks

Chargers RB Joshua Kelley was placed on the injured reserve.

The Chargers made some roster moves ahead of their matchup with the Seahawks.

Los Angeles has placed running back Joshua Kelley on the injured reserve. In correspondence, wide receiver Michael Bandy was signed to the active roster.

In addition, kicker Taylor Bertolet was elevated from the practice squad. Bertolet will kick in place of Dustin Hopkins, who is out for two to four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Kelley will have to miss a minimum of four games, making him eligible to return in Week 12 when the Bolts play the Cardinals. Rookie Isaiah Spiller will be active on Sunday for the first time this season.

Bandy has three catches on four targets for 53 yards this season.

Mike Williams, DeAndre Carter, Jason Moore and Bandy are the healthy wide receivers heading to tomorrow. Keenan Allen (hamstring) is questionable and Joshua Palmer (concussion) is out.

Chargers HC Brandon Staley provides handful of injury updates

The injury bug bit the Chargers.

Chargers HC Brandon Staley provides updates ahead of Thursday Night Football

Chargers HC Brandon Staley updated the statuses of a few key players on Monday.

After defeating the Giants, the Chargers are nearly 72 hours away from taking the field against division-rival Chiefs. Several key players’ statuses are looming, with the latest being Rashawn Slater.

Brandon Staley confirmed that Slater tested positive for COVID-19, adding that there’s still a chance he plays on Thursday night.

However, Slater would need to have two negative tests at least 24 hours apart and be asymptomatic for 48 hours for that to happen.

A few notables did not play against New York, star safety Derwin James and wide receiver Keenan Allen.

James, who popped up on the injury report a day before the Week 13 matchup with a hamstring issue, is currently day-to-day, but Staley said he reported better today than he was yesterday.

Austin Ekeler left the game on Sunday with an ankle injury. Staley said it is “nothing major,” and he is expected back at practice this week.

Good news also applies for Allen, who is expected to play this week, barring any setback, according to Staley. Allen was ruled out with COVID-19.
