Nebaska’s class of 2024 is loaded with talent across the country. Five of the Huskers’ 29 commits rank as the No. 1 prospect in their respective states.

The 2024 group is currently ranked as the No. 19 ranked recruiting class in the country and the No. 6 ranked class in the Big Ten Conference. One of those top recruits is five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Raiola is Nebraska’s first five-star recruit since running back Marlon Lucky in 2006 and is the highest-ranked prospect in the modern recruiting era.

The Huskers continue to show success recruiting in-state under Matt Rhule as well. Nebraska signed eight players from the state of Nebraska for the second season in a row. Four-star tight end Carter Nelson leads this year’s group out of Ainsworth, who is also the state’s top recruit.

Top five tight ends signed to the Big Ten during the early signing period

Top five tight ends signed to the Big Ten on early signing day #B1G

The initial hype of the early signing period has died down, but there was a ton of talent to explore and so much so we are breaking it down by position. We have already dived into the top five quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers to sign with Big Ten teams and now we want to break down a position where Ohio State is looking to replace a huge starter in tight end.

The Big Ten snagged five of the top 20 tight end recruits in the class of 2024 and they also snagged the top two rated in the country. Unfortunately, not only do the Buckeyes not have anyone on this list, but The Team Up North has two players on this list.

It should be no surprise that Iowa makes an appearance and the flashier offenses from the West Coast are left off, but enough with the introduction, let’s dive into the top five tight ends in the class to sign with Big Ten teams according to 247Sports.

Nebraska commit attends Notre Dame/USC game

A Nebraska Football commit attended the Notre Dame/USC game on Saturday.

A Nebraska Football commit attended the Notre Dame/USC game on Saturday. Carter Nelson was spotted in South Bend, Indiana, over the weekend.

Nelson committed to Nebraska back in June. The eight-man recruit chose the Huskers over Notre Dame and Georgia.

The prospect is the first eight-man player from Nebraska to receive an offer from the Cornhuskers since 2002. Iowa’s Seth Malcom, who signed with the Huskers in 2021, was the last eight-man star to sign with Nebraska.

So far this season, Nelson has led Ainsworth High School to an undefeated record. He’s thrown for 492 and six touchdowns, run the ball 81 for 813 yards and 14 touchdowns, and has 22 receptions for 412 yards and ten touchdowns.

Mitch Sherman of The Athletic (subscription required) has reported that Nelson’s father, Jake, told reporters that Carter remains committed to Nebraska and plans on being on Saturday’s game against Northwestern.

Georgia TE target Carter Nelson makes commitment

Nelson, the nation’s No. 2 TE, commits to Nebraska…

Georgia is the hottest team on the recruiting trail right now, but the Bulldogs can’t win them all. 2024 tight end target Carter Nelson committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Nelson is rated as the No. 2 tight end and the No. 40 overall recruit in the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

The Bulldogs, who have the top class in the country, do hold commitments from four-star Jaden Reddell, the nation’s No. 4 tight end, and three-star Colton Heinrich, ranked No. 46 at the position, in the 2024 class.

Georgia’s tight end room for the 2023 season is led by arguably the best player in college football in Brock Bowers, and is supported by former four-star recruit Oscar Delp (Sophomore), along with freshmen Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin, two of the top tight ends in the 2023 class.

Elite TE Carter Nelson sets commitment date: Georgia in the mix?

Is Georgia in the mix for 4-star TE Carter Nelson?

Carter Nelson ranks as the No. 2 tight end in the class of 2024 and as the No. 40 overall recruit in the nation.

Out of Ainsworth, Nebraska, all signs are pointing toward Nelson staying home and playing for the Cornhuskers. But with the way Kirby Smart and Georgia have been recruiting recently, including at the tight end position, it would be unwise to fully rule the Dawgs out.

We’ll have our answers very soon. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Nelson tweeted  that he will be committing on Wednesday, June 28 at 1 p.m. ET.

Nelson visited Nebraska last weekend. This month, he’s also visited Georgia (June 2), Notre Dame (June 9) and Penn State (June 16).

Georgia originally offered Nelson in February.

Georgia’s not necessarily hurting at the tight end position. This season, the Bulldogs’ offense will feature Brock Bowers, who is arguably America’s top playmaker. Behind Bowers is redshirt freshman Oscar Delp, the former No. 1 ranked tight end in the nation from the class of 2022. There’s also true freshmen Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin, who were both four-stars and top-five tight end in the 2023 class. And in the 2025 class, Georgia has a commitment from 5-star tight end Elyiss Williams.

Recruits who will be visiting Notre Dame as the host Clemson

This type of game will draw out some of the best recruits in the country

Since teams made the adjustment for the early signing period and the rule changes to have official visits in the summer, in-season recruiting has lost some of it’s luster. That won’t necessarily be the case this weekend as Notre Dame is set to host Clemson, in a game that will dictate the direction of the rest of the remaining season for both teams. With an upset, the Irish would have three wins over three of College Football Playoff’s top 25 teams.

It’s an understatement that this game is big, but not just on the field, it’s a big one for Irish recruiting. Find out below who is currently schedule to make the trip to South Bend as Notre Dame hosts the Tigers in prime time. (This list is confirmed visitors and will change as the week goes on.)

Iowa Hawkeyes offer 2024 TE Carter Nelson out of Nebraska

Iowa found another big-bodied pass catcher it likes in the 2024 class, offering tight end Carter Nelson of Ainsworth High School.

Iowa identified another big-bodied pass catcher it would like to add to its lineage of great tight ends. The Hawkeyes offered 6-foot-4, 205 pound tight end Carter Nelson out of Ainsworth High School in Nebraska.

According to On3, Nelson is a three-star recruit, the nation’s No. 22 tight end and the top player from the state of Nebraska in the 2024 class. Rivals also rates Nelson as a three-star prospect.

With the Iowa offer, Nelson now has scholarship offers from the Hawkeyes, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska. Nelson does have one Rivals FutureCast in from HuskerOnline publisher Sean Callahan on May 11 to commit to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

According to Ainsworth High School’s MaxPreps stats, Nelson was the Bulldogs’ leading receiver last season. He hauled in 28 grabs for 511 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his sophomore season. Nelson also averaged an impressive 18.3 yards per catch with a long of 64 yards. Nelson also added 34 tackles and five tackles for loss in eight games.

The Hawkeyes are already off to a great start in the 2024 class. Iowa has commitments from four in-state recruits. According to 247Sports, that list includes four-star interior offensive lineman Cody Fox of East Buchanan High School, three-star linebacker Cam Buffington of Winfield-Mt. Union High School, three-star athlete Derek Weisskopf of Williamsburg High School and three-star athlete Preston Ries of Monticello High School.

Fox is rated as the nation’s No. 5 interior offensive lineman, Buffington is ranked as the No. 23 linebacker and Weisskopf and Ries are listed as the country’s No. 51 and No. 56 athletes, respectively.

Here’s a look at some of Nelson’s Hudl highlights at Ainsworth High School.
