Carolina vs Atlanta Game Preview

Why Carolina Will Win

The Atlanta defense is still having issues.

The Falcons might have beaten Miami 30-28, but the D continues to give up passing yards in bunches, the run D allowed 132 yards, and the team was saved by Matt Ryan and a big day through the air late.

The defense is awful at getting off the field. Carolina has a shot at keeping the chains moving.

Carolinaā€™s defense got roads by Minnesota a few weeks ago, but overall itā€™s been solid. Itā€™s still doing a great job of keeping passing games from bombing away with consistency, and itā€™s still the third-best overall.

However ā€¦

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 8

Why Atlanta Will Win

So, howā€™s the mood right now in the Panther locker room?

Itā€™s just a rumor, but Deshaun Watson for Christian McCaffrey and a slew of draft picks? No pressure, but Sam Darnold has to be a whole lot better than heā€™s been over the last few weeks.

He started out great. The offense was rolling, he threw for 260 yards or more on a regular basis, and everything started to look good, and now itā€™s falling apart. The Panthers havenā€™t hit 200 yards through the air in the last three games.

That Carolina D that might have the stats on its side isnā€™t taking the ball away and is starting to have big problems against the run.

What’s Going To Happen

Can Carolina get its offensive groove back?

Atlanta has looked solid over the last two weeks, but thatā€™s because it played the Jets and Dolphins. The Panthers start to get it back with a strong day from Darnold and enough big plays to get through a bit of a shootout.

Carolina vs New York Giants Game Preview

Why Carolina Will Win

The Giants continue to have injury problems, and they continue to struggle without enough weapons.

This isn’t the defense you want to go against if there are issues.

Daniel Jones is doing what he can. but there hasn’t been any running game without Saquon Barkley, the receiving corps is still banged up, and the points aren’t flowing with 20 or fewer in three of the last four games and in four of the six.

The Carolina defense is going off its worst day of the season in a loss to Minnesota. It’s not going to have the same problems in the secondary for a second straight game.

Week 7 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why New York Giants Will Win

Didn’t you used to be Sam Darnold?

He was great against the Jets and the Texans, and he was a fantasy football darling with his five rushing scores in the first four games – but the accuracy has fallen off the map over the last two games and the O is struggling to go.

The Giants had problems against Dallas and the Rams, but there’s no shame there. At the very least, the D came up with two takeaways in each of the last two games, and now it gets a Carolina O with eight turnovers in the last three outings.

What’s Going To Happen

Don’t expect fireworks.

The New York defense won’t be anything amazing, but the Carolina offense isn’t going to take a whole lot of chances and Darnold isn’t going to press too hard. It won’t have to – the D will take care of things, especially against the ground game.

Again, look at this as the Carolina response to bad performances against the Vikings and Cowboys.

ESPN FPI’s latest Notre Dame season projections

You buying these projections at all?

No. 14 Notre Dame has been a difficult team to figure out through the first five games of 2021.Ā  At times the offense has looked strong, defense has looked elite, and special teams have made some spectacular plays.

At other times the offense has looked dreadful, the defense has stumbled, and the special teams have given away possessions or missed chip shot kicks.

So what does the rest of the 2021 season have in store for this Fighting Irish team that has so many questions?

If things play out how ESPN’s latest FPI projections say, it could still mean big thing for the Irish.Ā  Here are the chances the latest FPI gives Notre Dame in all seven of their remaining games:

Notre Dame responsible for 1/4 of an ACC football first

The ACC is off to a fast start in 2020 and has reached a conference first with Notre Dame being 25% responsible for.

With the AP Poll being updated on Sunday we saw Clemson stay in the top spot while Notre Dame remained fifth. Joining the Tigers and Irish in the top ten though were seventh ranked Miami and eighth ranked North Carolina.

Four ACC teams being ranked in the top ten simultaneously is a conference first, with the poll dating back all the way to 1936.

If Clemson beats Miami as the sports books say they should do, it may be hard to see this happen again the rest of the year as the Big Ten and Pac-12 will be starting their seasons soon enough and likely creating more of a logjam after they get some games under their belts as opposed to pre-season hype.

In addition to the Clemson/Miami game this week, Notre Dame hosts unranked Florida State while North Carolina hosts Virginia Tech.

Troy Pride, Jr. Impresses His New Coaches Wife

Troy Pride, Jr. made quite the first impression on his new head coach…and his new head coaches wife. See what Panthers HC Matt Rhule said

Troy Pride, Jr. was a fantastic corner at Notre Dame the last couple of seasons.Ā  He may not have finished with huge interception numbers but he wasn’t a guy that was really ever picked on by opposing quarterbacks, either.

Pride was drafted by new head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Matt Rhule over the weekend in the draft’s fourth round.Ā  Pride had a video meeting with Rhule recently that left with Rhule not being the only person impressed in his household.

Pride is a big believer in himself, and after getting drafted shared the following:

ā€œIā€™m a competitive peach…my will to win is higher than a lot of individuals. My competitive edge is always going to keep me with any athlete that I play against and any system I play in.ā€

Good luck to Pride in Carolina, a team that looks to be trying to revamp/load up on defense.

5 reasons why the Bills should avoid Cam Newton

Those are just a few of the places rumored to be Newton’s next destination, but Buffalo is surprisingly amongst those teams.

It was a move that many saw coming for the Carolina Panthers. The 2015 NFL MVP, and 2011 first-round pick, quarterback Cam Newton, was released on Tuesday by the team after a few years of declining health, leading to declining play.

With that news came the connections. Where would Newton end up? There’s some QB needy teams still out there, but with the madness of free agency last week, as well as the upcoming NFL Draft, who would want to take a chance with Newton? Could teams such as the Patriots or Chargers?

Those are just a few of the places rumored to be Newton’s next destination, but Buffalo is surprisingly amongst those teams.

Surprising, because of the Josh Allen experiment. But also unsurprising, because Carolina has essentially been a feeder program for the Bills since the arrival of head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane.

Here are five reasons why the Bills should avoid adding Newton:

Newton isn’t ready to be a backup

Newton isn’t going to sign just anywhere. He wants to play. He wants to be a QB1 somewhere and prove the Carolina Panthers franchise, that he gave blood, sweat, a shoulder and foot for, wrong.

He wants to make another run, whether we believe in him or not. Well, quite frankly, Buffalo isn’t going to be that place.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, this organization and a good majority of it’s fan base are firmly behind it’s first round draft pick from 2018, Josh Allen. While there most certainly has been some growing pains with Allen behind center, this front office is ready to throw it all away, unless the Bills have a meltdown and find themselves on the “outside looking in” of the playoff picture by the middle of the season.

While Newton and Allen have a similar playing ability, and if Newton were up for it, he could serve as a tremendous mentor for a young QB who hasn’t hit his ceiling just yet. That’s not Newton’s “modus operandi” at 30 years old.
