WATCH: Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate makes diving touchdown catch vs Northwestern

What a catch in his hometown. #GoBucks

It has been a bit of a slow start for Ohio State in its game against Northwestern but things are starting to slowing turn in the right direction for the No. 2 team in the country.

The game is in the venerable Wrigley Field, so it has to be a treat for the fans that made it, and even more so for Buckeye receiver Carnell Tate, who is from the Southside of Chicago. You have to wonder what kind of places he is frequenting being back in his hometown, but one place we know of, is the end zone.

Tate made an unbelievable catch at the end of the first half to put Ohio State up 21-7 and it was one worth rewatching, or getting a look at for the first time if you haven’t already. Watch from another slow-motion angle as Tate lays out, catches the ball, then rolls over in mid-air on his back to protect the catch for a clear score.

Ohio State is up by two scores thanks to capitalizing on a couple of turnovers by Northwestern. We’ll see if the momentum gained in the second quarter can carry over to the second half.

WATCH: Carnell Tate score touchdown against Nebraska

WATCH: Carnell Tate score touchdown against Nebraska #GoBucks

With 30 seconds left on the clock in the first quarter, the Ohio State football team finally strikes against the Nebraska Cornhuskers to make the score 7-0. It is slightly disappointing it took the Buckeyes so long to get on the board as they were expected to win by more than three touchdowns, but perhaps this most recent drive was a sign of good things to come.

OSU quarterback, Will Howard was able to connect with wide receiver, Carnell Tate on a 40-yard passing touchdown. Howard is gaining some traction here as he has six completions on all six attempts for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Tate is currently leading the Ohio State receivers with two receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. This game has been a tight one so far, but the Buckeyes look like they are finding their groove and could finish this one out strong much like when they played the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Iowa Hawkeyes

Ohio State football issues availability report for Iowa Hawkeyes #GoBucks

Ohio State football is set to kick off for its first home Big Ten contest of the 2024 season against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Columbus, Ohio at 3:30 p.m. Today is a big day for the Buckeyes as Iowa will be the first legitimate College Football Playoff-caliber opponent. Everyone is hoping that OSU will be 100% for the first time this season and we thought that maybe the case with head coach, Ryan Day mentioning Tyliek Williams’ return on the defensive line, but the newest released availability report says otherwise.

According to the report, wide receiver, Carnell Tate is questionable to see action today against Iowa. With the coaching staff showing a trend of better safe than sorry, it would be a safe assumption to prepare not to see Tate. Ohio State shouldn’t need Tate as it is expected to win by three touchdowns. The following is the availability report:

Ryan Day thinks Carnell Tate has unlimited potential this season

The Ohio State Buckeyes have always had a slew of dynamic receivers, and Carnell Tate is one of them, at least that’s what Ryan Day believes. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team has consistently had some of the nation’s best wide receivers. From Michael Thomas to Garrett Wilson, there has been no shortage of talent coming through Columbus.

This season, The Buckeyes will be returning Emeka Egbuka and then adding standout freshman Jeremiah Smith, both of which are expected to have a good amount of impact on the offense this season.

In the midst of those high-profile players, Carnell Tate is often forgotten about, but when asked about his development and what he brings to the table after practice, head coach Ryan Day gave an uplifting answer.

“The limit for Carnell is just through the roof. I don’t think there is a limit to what he can be,” Day said after the first day of fall camp. “He’s not someone you typically hear but feel out there,” Day said after the first day of training camp.

Tate spent his freshman season with the Buckeyes, ending the year with 18 receptions and 264 yards, snagging one touchdown as well. He played in 13 games, so he was used fairly often.

Originally a 5-star recruit from Bradenton, Florida, Tate was the 3rd-best wide receiver in the Class of 2023 and has the talent to explode this season.

Ohio State just misses top spot in CBS receiver rankings

Ohio State just misses top spot in CBS receiver rankings #GoBucks

The good people over at CBS Sports are releasing their college football positional rankings and Will Backus has provided us his list of the best receiver rooms in college football. We have reached that time of the off-season where spring practices are over and the only things we have are recruiting tidbits and anticipation.

As we eagerly wait for the kickoff of the 2024 college football season, everyone is releasing their lists. On this one, CBS has the Ohio State receiving room ranked second in the country. The highest ranked receiver room on this list is Big Ten newbie, Oregon.

Honestly, this makes sense. The Ducks have an exciting group of receivers with Tez Johnson returning along with Traeshon Holden and Gary Bryant Jr. Mix that returning quality with incoming superstar transfer, Evan Stewart, and Big Ten defensive backs will have some problems.

The Buckeyes come in second on this list and given the fact that this unit loses one of the most elite college receivers in recent memory in Marvin Harrison Jr. — it makes sense. We know Emeka Egbuka has All-American potential, but injuries have slowed him down. A lot is riding on young studs, Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith, but we haven’t seen anything on gameday yet.

Ohio State named top wide receiver unit in college football by On3

No surprise really here. #GoBucks

It’s no secret that there’s no position group Ohio State has developed better in recent memory than wide receivers.  That’s not changing anytime soon as even after losing Marvin Harrison Jr. to the NFL, the Buckeyes are still projected to have a very talented group of playmakers at wide receiver in 2024.

On3 college football analyst, Jesse Simonton, ranked Ohio State as the top wide receiver unit in college football in 2024 in his article last week. Between Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and others, the Buckeyes have elite high-end talent as well as great depth at the position.

Not many true freshman around college football make an impact on their team but Jeremiah Smith is an exception. He has put his remarkable talent on display in spring practices and in March, became the first Buckeye to shed his black stripe after just four practices.

Emeka Egbuka has been one of the best wide receivers in college football over the last two season. He has is an elite route runner with good elusiveness after the catch. In 2024 he is expected to step into an even bigger role for the Buckeyes.

Also projected to step into a bigger role is Carnell Tate who made a good impact in his true freshman season. He made 11 appearances where he was fifth on the team in receiving with 264 yards.

Brandon Inniss is also expected to make an impact next season. He was a part of a talented group of receivers in the 2023 class and flashed his potential when he hauled in a 58-yard touchdown catch against Purdue.

Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate signs NIL deal with hometown MLB team

One of the more unique NIL deals around. Congrats Carnell! #GoBucks

In the era of name, image and likeness, many collegiate players have been taking advantage to multiple opportunities that have presented themselves, and Ohio State football wide receiver, [autotag]Carnell Tate,[/autotag] is no different.

The rising-sophomore finished his high school career in Florida, but is an Illinois native. That fact he went to Marist High School, which is on the south side of Chicago, and gave the Chicago White Sox incentive to reach out to Tate about an NIL deal.

That all came to fruition as it was announced on Thursday that the Sox have partnered up with Tate, along with multiple other local collegiate stars as CHISOX Athlete Class of 2024.

The deal includes the opportunity to throw out the first pitch of a game, a photoshoot at Guaranteed Rate Field, and more.

The day after: Lasting thoughts on Ohio State football’s win over Purdue

What still sticks out in your head Buckeye fans? #GoBucks

It wasn’t the biggest win in [autotag]Ohio State footbal[/autotag]l history, but it’s win on the road against Purdue did carry some significance.

It somewhat exorcized some West Lafayette demons, kept the Buckeyes undefeated and was a great tune up ahead of their tilt at home against Penn State. Both major pregame shows will be in attendance, so you know it’s a big game.

We wait six days every week for Buckeye football to return on Saturday during the season, so there is always plenty of time to think about what transpired the previous game. Here are my day after thoughts following Ohio State football’s impressive road 41-7 win against Purdue.

Which Ohio State football players earned their Buckeye leaves against Purdue

Which Buckeyes impressed you in their win over Purdue? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] got some semblance of revenge against [autotag]Purdue[/autotag], as they went into Ross-Ade Stadium and throughly defeated the Boilermakers, 41-7.

The Buckeyes were on the game from the start, jumping out to a 20-0 halftime lead before taking the gas off the pedal midway through the third quarter. The starters did their job and paved the way for the backups to get valuable game experience.

It was a good game for Ohio State in multiple phases and like OSU does every week, more Buckeye leaves will be added to their helmets before they face Penn State next week. Find out which players earned their new decals according to our opinions below.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day updates wide receiver Emeka Egbuka’s status

It could be worse #GoBucks

Unfortunately for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag], it’s become all too common for a star player to get injured.

Last year it was Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and although [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] toughed it out against Maryland, he was hobbled the week prior with an ankle injury even if it didn’t look like he was.

[autotag]Emeka Egbuka[/autotag] was injured while playing against the Terrapins and on Tuesday Buckeye head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] updated his status. He told the media that Egbuka’s injury isn’t long term, but that is extremely vague. As Dave Biddle put it, if you take what Day said, it doesn’t seem like the junior will play this weekend.

There is a silver lining to potentially missing Egbuka this weekend against Purdue: Some of the younger receivers such as [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Balland[/autotag] will get extended looks.
