Twitter reacts to video of Cam Newton manhandling attackers in brawl

Um, yeah, you probably shouldn’t try to fight Cam Newton.

Cam Newton may not be an NFL quarterback at the moment, but maybe he’ll have a few offers to play the offensive line after today.

A video of the Carolina Panthers great manhandling multiple attackers at his 7v7 event in Atlanta, Ga. made the rounds on social media this afternoon. Not much is known about the incident to this point, other than it’s a very, very, very bad idea to try to fight Cam Newton.

Here are some of the best and funniest reactions to the crazy clip:

Video: Panthers great Cam Newton involved in fight at 7v7 event

Panthers great Cam Newton was captured on video manhandling multiple men during a brawl at one of his 7v7 events.

Apparently, a few fellas over in the Atlanta area weren’t aware of what went down in Spartanburg, S.C. about a decade ago.

On Sunday afternoon, a video of Carolina Panthers great Cam Newton appearing to be ambushed emerged on social media. Here’s the clip:

Details regarding the incident, which took place during one of Newton’s 7v7 tournaments, are scarce to this point. Per TMZ, the event was held at Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy in Atlanta, Ga.

The video shows a few individuals attempting to attack the former quarterback. But Newton, who made a career out of bulldozing defenders and carrying whole teams, seemed rather comfortable while manhandling multiple attackers.

This isn’t a first for Panthers fans, who are very much acquainted with Newton’s scuffling skills. In 2015, the eventual Most Valuable Player and cornerback Josh Norman engaged in a fit of fisticuffs during training camp—giving us this lasting image:

And just like in that brawl, Newton looked to come out on top.

DeVonta Smith shocks Cam Newton with response to Iron Bowl rivalry

While on Cam Newton’s podcast, former Alabama WR DeVonta Smith says that even without Saban it will never be Auburn’s time.

Former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith let out a chuckle and a hilarious comeback when former Auburn football star quarterback Cam newton told Smith that now might be Auburn’s time

Newton stated “I think it’s our time now,” referring to Auburn being the leading football team in the state now that head coach Nick Saban has retired.

The former Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver laughed and responded by saying, “Ain’t gonna never be y’all’s time.” Newton seemed rather surprised by Smith saying this, but it’s safe to say most Crimson Tide fans feel the same way.

New head coach Kalen DeBoer will now have to take over the Alabama program, which comes with dealing with the in-state rival. The first Iron Bowl for DeBoer should be a memorable one.

Ranking 2024’s top 12 free-agent quarterbacks

Here are the top 12 quarterbacks who are about to hit the open market

The Carolina Panthers certainly won’t be on the lookout for a quarterback this offseason—at least as far as their main roster is concerned. But let’s rank the ones who are about to hit the open market anyway.

Here are the top 12 free-agent quarterbacks of the 2024 offseason:

Former OROY Cam Newton says C.J. Stroud had greatest rookie season ever

Former No. 1 pick Cam Newton had high praise for Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Cam Newton is no stranger to excellent rookie quarterbacking.

After the Carolina Panthers drafted him No. 1 overall in the 2011 NFL draft, Newton tore through the league with 4,000 passing yards in addition to 14 rushing touchdowns on his way to NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. It was the start of a career that would later include NFL MVP in 2015 and a Super Bowl run while consistently putting up gaudy numbers for Carolina.

Despite his own greatness and becoming the first rookie quarterback to ever throw for 4,000 yards in a rookie season, Newton doesn’t believe the best campaign ever was his own. He met with Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud to give him that credit in Las Vegas.

“I don’t know nobody that really had a better rookie campaign than you.” Newton said before Stroud interjected that it was debatable.

After, Newton explained the difference was that, “We didn’t make it to the playoffs, we didn’t win. You won and you made it look sexy, you were standing on business. It wasn’t even your performance as much as you defying the odds. You did it with so much class, so much grace.”

Newton later complimented Stroud on showing out against the Georgia Bulldogs and SEC competition a year earlier in the College Football Playoff, which was no surprise considering how Newton played for the Auburn Tigers. He credited Stroud for carrying that momentum into turning around the Texans franchise and winning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

It is yet another former player bringing well deserved high praise of Stroud after a phenomenal year. Nobody is as recently removed from the game as Newton, so his praise rings even stronger as someone who was quarterbacking at an MVP level not too long ago.

Newton will have to watch if Bryce Young, his successor in Carolina and the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft one selection before Stroud, can find that type of success as well moving forward. Meanwhile, the Texans franchise quarterback will have to carry all this good will into what many hope could be a Super Bowl run in 2024.

Cam Newton regrets not jumping on infamous fumble in Super Bowl 50

Panthers great Cam Newton regrets his decision not to jump on a loose ball back in Super Bowl 50.

In the eyes of some, not jumping on that loose ball in Super Bowl 50 was a career-defining moment for Cam Newton. Heck, you’ll still see that painful image of it pop up in the replies, over eight years later.

Nonetheless, Newton is taking it on the chin.

On Wednesday’s episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers great was asked why he did not try to recover a fumble on the fateful February night. He didn’t give an exact answer as to why, but he regrets the choice he made.

“It ain’t no excuse for me not jumpin’ on the fumble,” Newton said. “I should’ve jumped on the fumble. Straight up. The competitor in me, if that happens again, duh. And this is the Super Bowl—all effort goes to, like, ‘Yo, Super Bowl energy.’ That wasn’t Super Bowl energy. And I think that is what hurts the most. You don’t get another opportunity to go back, it’s not promised for you to go back.

“‘Cause next year, that’s when the shoulder injury happened and the year following that, that’s when the foot injury happened. So you don’t necessarily know when it’s gonna be your time. That was your time to seize the moment. Carpe diem—the words that I live by. And I didn’t.”

Well, Newton and the Panthers didn’t make it back after their 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos.

The 2015 Most Valuable Player would go on a bit of a dip, as those shoulder and foot injuries eventually shortened his career. And as for the Panthers, who have dipped even further, they’re still without a postseason win since that season.

USA TODAY Sports columnist: Caleb Williams should expect the Cam Newton treatment before NFL draft

A USA TODAY Sports columnist tackles a topic which, sadly, did not end with Doug Williams in Super Bowl XXII (1988).

It is a topic that won’t go away in the NFL: The way Black quarterbacks are treated and talked about, whether as draft prospects or as established quarterbacks in the National Football League, is different from white quarterbacks. No one might enjoy discussing this topic, but it’s there because it has existed for a very long time. Caleb Williams might be entering this new world. Cam Newton and other Black quarterbacks were the subjects of intense scrutiny and might have a few words of advice for Caleb as he prepares for the 2024 NFL draft.

In an ideal world, Super Bowl XXII between the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos in 1988 should have ended the debate about whether a Black quarterback could lead a team to a Super Bowl title. Doug Williams, the center of an intense media firestorm in the days leading up to that game, helped the Redskins score 35 points in the second quarter en route to a 42-10 blowout win. Yet, here we are, over 35 years after that Super Bowl, still discussing Black quarterbacks and how they are evaluated compared to their white peers.

USA TODAY Sports columnist Mike Freeman addressed this topic. Let’s look at some of the things he said, and which other NFL analysts have said, as Caleb Williams prepares to go under the media microscope:

Cam Newton on Brock Purdy’s game: ‘We have to normalize the truth’

Cam Newton on Brock Purdy’s game: ‘We have to normalize the truth’

The biggest debate this entire season revolves around San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. The 49ers have won plenty of games with Purdy under center, but anyone who watches San Francisco play knows Purdy is the furthest thing away from the defining factor in their wins.

Purdy is often the beneficiary of good luck and bad play from defenses, yet to his credit, he does execute the 49ers’ system efficiently. The lack of dynamic play from Purdy coupled with his efficiency has led many to claim he is a game manager, such as former league MVP and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Newton has called Purdy a game manager, and he recently went on The Dan Patrick Show to clarify his comments.

Seattle Seahawks fans are likely to agree with Newton’s assessment of Purdy, as, like I stated previously, his play is hardly dynamic.

Still, Purdy is in a Super Bowl and will compete for a ring this afternoon. The 12’s are sure to tune in to root on their biggest rival’s downfall.
