Watch Dalvin Cook’s epic comeback win over C.J. Ham in Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots

This comeback win was absolutely savage.

Never get comfortable in a game of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots with Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook.

The man has ice in his veins.

Fullback C.J. Ham had to find out the hard way after blowing a 2-0 lead in a best-to-five series against Cook.

With minicamp and OTAs in the rearview, the Vikings’ offensive backfield kicked back for a little friendly competition of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.

Running back Alexander Mattison showed why he’s a man of many talents by doing his best Joe Rogan impression and serving as the commentator for the contest.

Ham had Cook on the ropes, and then he let him off with a comeback for the ages.

Here’s to hoping there’s a rematch down the line at some point because Ham definitely deserves a chance to run it back. And we deserve a chance to watch it.

Something has to keep us occupied until football gets here.

Watch C.J. Ham become a ā€˜real Vikingā€™ in ā€˜Vikings: Valhallaā€™ promotion

C.J. Ham picks up an axe and shield

Minnesota Vikings fullback C.J. Ham had the same question as nearly everybody thatā€™s watched an episode of the television series Vikings: Whatā€™s it like to be real Viking?

In a hilarious promotional video featuring Netflixā€™s upcoming spinoff series Vikings: Valhalla, Ham throws on some body armor, picks up an axe and holds up a shield. The video then cuts to him giving a speech.

Whatā€™s a good Vikings impersonation without an epic speech?

ā€œWeā€™ve got to sail hard, weā€™ve got to sail fast,ā€ Ham says in the video. ā€œWhen we get to the battlefield, we have to be very tactical in what we do. We have to attack first and make them feel what itā€™s like to be a Viking. ā€¦I donā€™t think I can be on a boat for that long.ā€

Seasickness might be the only thing capable of stopping Ham at the point of attack.

The Vikings fullback has been one of the teamā€™s unsung heroes at a position thatā€™s been a dying breed in the NFL. Heā€™s a much-needed throwback in the offensive backfield in helping clear a path for one of the leagueā€™s most versatile running backs, Dalvin Cook.

For some, the video might get them hyped for the much-anticipated television series, but for football fans, it just makes you miss NFL Sundays.

Vikings 2022 offseason preview: Where does Minnesota stand at RB?

How will Cook and Mattison be utilized in O’Connell’s offense?

There isnā€™t nearly as much drama for the Minnesota Vikings at running back. Dalvin Cook, the three-time Pro Bowler, is still Mr. Do-It-All on offense, while Alexander Mattison remains one of the best emergency glass options in the NFL.

Itā€™ll be interesting to see how the offense evolves under the guidance of head coach Kevin Oā€™Connell, who has already confirmed heā€™d be the one conducting the offensive play-calling. Of course, newly-hired offensive coordinator Wes Phillips will be involved as well.

Cookā€™s usage rate has clearly increased with him averaging more carries over the last two seasons than he has throughout his entire career. Will things continue to trend in that direction, or will Oā€™Connell put the ball into the hands of quarterback Kirk Cousins even more, assuming heā€™s still on the team?

Here are where things stand right now in the offensive backfield for the Vikings.

Minnesota Vikings Week 17 injury designations: 4 defensive starters ruled OUT

The Detroit Lions (5-10) Week 17 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings (6-9), have released their injury designations ahead of Sunday’s game.Ā

The Detroit Lions (5-10) Week 17 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings (6-9), have released their injury designations ahead of Sunday’s game and they will be without several starters.

Here’s a look at the Vikings’ full injury designations list.

Injury designations

Player Position Injury Designation
Dalvin Cook RB (starter) Not-injury related OUT
Alexander Mattison RB Concussion Cleared to play
C.J. Ham FB Quad Cleared to play
Riley Reiff LT (starter) COVID-19 Reserve/COVID-19
Ifeadi Odenigbo DE (starter) Chest OUT
Jalyn Holmes DE (starter) Groin OUT
Armon Watts DT Ankle Cleared to play
Eric Kendricks LB (starter) Calf OUT
Troy Dye LB Concussion/Hamstring Cleared to play
Todd Davis LB Ribs Cleared to play
Cameron Dantzler CB (starter) Hamstring OUT
Chris Jones CB Groin OUT
Dan Bailey K (starter) Back Questionable

Cook’s father passed away on Tuesday and he has returned home to be with his family. He will not play in this weekend’s game. Cook’s absence means Mattison — who was just cleared from the league’s concussion protocol — will get the start at running back.

Rieff was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday, but the timeline for when he was identified is unclear. If he is not able to clear league protocols, the Vikings will turn to Rashod Hill at left tackle.

Odenigbo and Holmes were not the Vikings EDGE starters at the beginning of the year, but after Danielle Hunter went on I.R. and Yannick Ngakoue was traded, they were elevated into starting roles. With both ruled out, the Vikings will be on their third set of EDGE rushers for this matchup.

Kendricks is one of the best linebackers in the NFL and his absence will leave another massive hole in the Vikings front-7.

Last week, the Vikings starting three cornerbacks were:Ā rookies Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler, along with Chris Jones — yes, former Lion Chris Jones. With Dantzler and Jones ruled out, the Vikings will start Gladney and likely Harrison Hand — yet another rookie corner.

Vikings Week 17 Thursday injury report: Seven DNP, four limited, one full

See the Minnesota Vikings injury report as of Thursday, leading up to the Week 17 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

The Vikings will be without some key players for the Week 17 game against the Lions.

It remains to be seen whether Minnesota will rest players against Detroit. Regardless, the Vikings will be without Dalvin Cook and Kyle Rudolph.

Rudolph was placed on IR. Cook’s father, James Cook, passed away this week. The Vikings running back is home in Miami and will be unavailable for the game, as reported byĀ ESPNā€™s Courtney Cronin.

There’s also Riley Reiff, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week. He might be able to go on Sunday, but as of now, there have been no announcements of him coming off of the list. Expect Rashod Hill to start if Reiff is unavailable.

Here is the injury report in full as of Thursday:

Vikings first Week 15 injury report: Five DNP, one limited

See the Minnesota Vikings injury report for Wednesday. The list features Eric Kendricks and C.J. Ham.

The Vikings have dealt with key absences for much of the season, but it seemed to make a big difference against the Buccaneers.

Sure, Minnesota’s kicking game, which was healthy, was abysmal, but the team’s defense also did not seem to give the Tampa Bay offense all that much trouble.

Linebacker Eric Kendricks has been a big loss. Minnesota has fought through the absences of Danielle Hunter, Anthony Barr, Mike Hughes and others this season, but Kendricks is arguably the unit’s most important player.

Kendricks missed the Jaguars matchup after he suffered a pregame calf injury. He was out for the Buccaneers game as well. Hopefully for the Vikings’ sake, the team gets him back this week. Follow along as the injury report progresses to get a good idea of what happens.

Here is the injury report as of Wednesday:

Vikings fullback C.J. Ham activated off reserve/COVID-19 list

Welcome back, Minnesota Vikings fullback C.J. Ham.

The Vikings had to place C.J. Ham on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week, but on Saturday, the team announced something promising.

Ham was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list today and as a result, he is available for the game vs. the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Minnesota could sure use Ham for the game. The Vikings have ruled out right guard Ezra Cleveland, a pivotal player during the team’s three-game winning streak.

The Vikings utilize a run-heavy offense, and sometimes that means bringing Ham out to block for Dalvin Cook. Minnesota’s offensive success has often come as a result of Cook this season. If the Cowboys are able to slow Cook down, the team definitely has a chance to pull off an upset.

That’s where Ham comes in. Barring anything unexpected, he’ll be back. The Vikings sure need him.

Vikings Thursday injury report: 1 DNP, 3 limited and 1 on reserve/COVID-19 list

See the Minnesota Vikings’ injury report from Thursday!

Vikings fullback C.J. Ham, who was given the DNP designation without an injury yesterday, has been put on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced.

It’s worth noting that being put on the list doesnā€™t mean they necessarily have the virus; they may have just been exposed to the virus.

Ham was out from practice today of course. If Ham can’t go against the Cowboys, that is a big loss for the Vikings, a run-heavy offense that utilizes Ham in heavy sets.

There is also some worrisome news on the Vikings offensive line, based on the injury report.

Minnesota Vikings injury report: Two DNP, four limited

The Minnesota Vikings’ Wednesday injury report is looking a little worrisome for the offensive line.

Minnesota’s offensive line has been pretty good recently.

In wins over the Packers and Lions, the Vikings ran the ball right through opposing defenses. Dalvin Cook had big days and Minnesota controlled the games for the most part.

The Chicago game was different in that the Bears run defense was pretty stout. However, Minnesota was still fairly good in pass protection, allowing for Kirk Cousins to make plays and move the chains ā€” with the help of Justin Jefferson, of course.

Basically, the offensive line and blocking has improved a lot since the start of the year. But now, Minnesota’s injury report leading up to the Cowboys game is a little concerning as of Wednesday. Here’s the list:

Vikings TE Irv Smith Jr., FB C.J. Ham ‘trending in the right direction’ to play

Vikings OC Gary Kubiak seemed optimistic about the playing chances of Minnesota TE Irv Smith Jr. and FB C.J. Ham.

The Vikings offense has been dominant in the last two games, and the run game has been the biggest reason why.

With Dalvin Cook, Minnesota has imposed its will on both the Lions and the Packers defense, en route to two consecutive victories. But it hasn’t all been Cook.

Minnesota has also been stellar at blocking for him. With the offensive line, C.J. Ham and Irv Smith Jr. ā€” the Vikings have been giving Cook a chance to make big plays.

So it’s a pretty big loss if Ham and Smith Jr. weren’t available to play Monday vs. Chicago. The two did not practice on Thursday and Friday, per the team’s injury report.

Despite that, Gary Kubiak gave a quote that should give Vikings fans a bode of confidence. The offensive coordinator said that Ham and Smith Jr. are ‘trending in the right direction’ to play on Monday night, per Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune.

“If nothing else, I think playing Monday gives us a chance with a couple guys that have been nicked up,” Kubiak said, via Krammer. “We’ll see what happens, but I never worry about those guys being ready to play (mentally).”
