Budda Baker is only Cardinals player to get All-Pro votes

Baker got a single second-place All-Pro vote from among the 50 media members voting for the Associated Press.

It wasn’t a surprise, but no Arizona Cardinals player earned All-Pro status from the Associated Press, either the first or second team.

They almost didn’t get any votes.

Safety Budda Baker was the only Cardinals to player to get a vote. He had a single vote.

Kicker Matt Prater didn’t get a vote. Tight end Trey McBride didn’t get a vote.

Baker was a Pro Bowler for the fifth straight season, although many feel he should not have made it.

Budda Baker makes Pro Bowl for 6th time

Baker is the Cardinals’ only Pro Bowler this season. No one was even an alternate.

The NFL announced Pro Bowl selections on Wednesday. The Arizona Cardinals have one sole representative. Safety Budda Baker was named a Pro Bowl starter, the sixth time in seven seasons he has been selected. It is the fifth time he has made it as a safety and fifth straight season he has been a Pro Bowl starting safety.

He was a Pro Bowl special teamer as a rookie in 2017.

He joins Patrick Peterson and Ollie Matson as the only players in franchise history to have at least six Pro Bowls in their first six seasons. He joins Adrian Wilson and Larry Wilson as the only Cardinals safeties to make it at least five times.

He missed four games earlier this season but still has 77 tackles, second on the team.

No other Cardinals player was even an alternate.

The Pro Bowl is now the Pro Bowl Games. They will be a multi-day AFC versus NFC competition in Orlando, FL culminating on Sunday, February 4 with a flag football game at Camping World Stadium that will be televised from 1:00-4:00 p.m. MST on ESPN and ABC. The players will participate in unique competitions that showcase their on-field and off-field skills. The Pro Bowl Games will feature new and fan-favorite skills, with cumulative scoring leading up to the flag football game.

The Pro Bowl is not a serious endeavor. We know that because at the actual Pro Bowl as it’s played now, there isn’t any actual football — it’s more like Field Day in elementary school. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but when it comes to the voting process — 1-3 from the fans, 1/3 from the coaches, and 1/3 from the players — it’s pretty frivolous. There are lifetime achievement awards which have little to do with the present, regionally-stacked oddities, and face-value selections which, again, have nothing to do with present performance.

Still, players get hefty contract incentives from Pro Bowl selections, so you know that players, agents, and teams take this seriously to a point. Now that the rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl have been announced, here are the weirdest and worst selections.
