Bucs opening the season at Saints puts this Tom Brady streak in jeopardy

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers set to open their season on the road against the Saints, this impressive Tom Brady streak may come to an end.

The Buccaneers found out their schedule for 2020 last night, and the Tom Brady era in Tampa Bay isn’t going to start off easy as the Bucs open the season at the Saints, pitting Brady against New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees.

The NFL couldn’t have asked for a better scenario than Brady joining the same division as Brees this offseason, and while the game itself will likely be the most talked about leading up to Week 1, the Bucs opening on the road in the Superdome could very well end this impressive Tom Brady streak in the process.

Per ESPN:

“Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened as 6.5-point underdogs in their Week 1 road game against the New Orleans Saints, according to Caesars Sportsbook. Brady has been favored in his past 74 regular-season starts. It’s the longest such streak in the Super Bowl era, according to ESPN Stats & Information research, and it appears to be in jeopardy.”

That line could move between now and Week 1, but barring injury to Brees, I don’t see any way the Bucs enter the game as favorites. Brady may find out the hard way that the NFC South is nothing like the AFC East.

Twitter reacts the Buccaneers’ 2020 schedule

See how Twitter reacted to the the Buccaneers’ 2020 schedule.

The NFL released the 2020 schedule tonight, which means we now know what Year 1 of the Tom Brady era will look like for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While the Bucs finished just 7-9 last season, they’ll be the talk of the league in 2020 now that Brady is under center. Tampa Bay has championship expectations now. But, looking at the team’s schedule, getting to the postseason for the first time in over a decade certainly isn’t going to be easy, even with a future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Brady’s arrival should hopefully help the Bucs right the ship at home

The Bucs went just 2-6 at home in 2019, and with a home slate in 2020 that includes the Packers, Chiefs and Rams, they’ll need TB12.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished 7-9 last season, an improvement over the 5-11 seasons they had in 2017 and 2018. But now that the team has six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady as their field general, anything short of a postseason berth in 2020 will be viewed as a failure.

While there might be concerns the Bucs have too many cooks in the kitchen on offense, Brady’s track record of success over the years makes it an almost moot point. With nine Super Bowl appearances and more playoff wins than any other quarterback, Brady brings with him championship experience and will have this team focused and ready whenever they take the field.

And one thing the Bucs are hoping Brady can also bring with him is stability at home. Over the last three years, the Bucs are 10-14 at home, including just a 2-6 record last year at Raymond James Stadium. Brady and his Patriots, meanwhile, went 20-4 during that same span, including a perfect 8-0 in 2018.

The Bucs would love to go perfect at home in 2020, but it won’t be easy. Tampa Bay will face teams like the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs at home this season, on top of divisional games against the Saints and Falcons.

But, if ever there was a quarterback tailor-made to guide the Bucs through a home schedule like that, it’s TB12.

NFL skipping international games in 2020

With the league schedule set to be released this week, the NFL has decided to skip the international series this season due to COVID-19.

The NFL will officially release its full 2020 schedule on Thursday night, and while we’ll have to wait and see when and where teams will be playing this season, we do know one thing — there will be no international games this season.

With the coronavirus pandemic impacting sports and life around the world, the NFL has made the decision to keep all games in the United States this year, skipping the international series.

It is disappointing news for the NFL, certainly, given that they have enjoyed expanding their reach to other countries over the years. However, it is the right decision to make given the current state of things.

Last season, the Bucs had to play the Carolina Panthers in London in Week 6, part of a brutal five-game stretch away from Raymond James Stadium. Thankfully, this season, they won’t have to deal with travel across the pond.

A reminder of who the Bucs’ 2020 opponents will be

The NFL is set to release it’s full 17-week schedule next week. Find out who the Buccaneers’ opponents will be in 2020.

With the NFL set to release a full 17-week schedule late next week, teams can finally start to get an idea of how their 2020 season will unfold (hopefully).

While the league’s plan may seem optimistic right now given the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, it will at least provide some structure and clarity for them to work from.

For the Bucs, the 2020 season will be hopefully end a 12-year playoff drought, and with six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady under center, Tampa Bay looks ready to contend.

While we’ll have to wait until next week to find out the Buccaneers’ schedule, we do know who their opponents will be at least.

Here’s a quick reminder:

HOME: Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams

AWAY: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and New York Giants

Fortunately, for the Bucs, Brady has had success against each of these opponents. (To see his record and stats versus each, click here.)

The home slate looks insanely brutal, especially when you consider the Bucs will be facing five quarterbacks who have played in a Super Bowl. Regardless of how those games are scheduled, it will be a tough home season for the Bucs either way.

Good thing they have a quarterback now who knows a thing or two about winning big games.

The 5 toughest non-divisional games for the Bucs in 2020

See which five non-divisional opponents will present the most problems for the Buccaneers next season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 7-9 this season, but their strong finish down the stretch has many people thinking postseason next year. Tampa Bay hasn’t been to the playoffs since the 2007 season, and haven’t won a postseason game since their victory over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. Next season, Tampa Bay will again take on the Raiders, only this time in Las Vegas.

While the Bucs don’t know the exact week they’ll face their 2020 opponents, they at least know who their opponents will be:

HOME

  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Green Bay Packers
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Minnesota Vikings
  • New Orleans Saints

AWAY

  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Chicago Bears
  • Denver Broncos
  • Detroit Lions
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • New Orleans Saints
  • New York Giants

So, what are their five-toughest non-divisional games? Let’s take a look.

Top 5 most memorable games from the Buccaneers’ season

See which games stood out the most during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2019 season.

The 2019 season felt like a tale of two seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a 3-7 start, which included a brutal five-game stretch away from the friendly confines of Raymond James Stadium, the Bucs went 4-2 down the stretch to finish the year at 7-9. It’s a definite improvement for a team that’d finished 5-11 the past two seasons.

The season was filled with a number of memorable games, both good and bad. With that, here are our top five from the 2019 season.

Colts-Bucs Injury Report (Dec. 5): Jason Pierre-Paul limited in practice

Check out the latest injury report for the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of Week 14’s game at Raymond James Stadium.

The Buccaneers have looked like one of the hottest teams in the NFL over the past two weeks, with convincing wins on the road against both the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars.

And, unlike in past wins when the offense was the one carrying this team to victory, it’s been an all-around team effort on both sides of the ball. Tampa Bay is 3-1 in their past four games since they returned home to Raymond James Stadium in Week 10 following a five-game stretch on the road. It really makes you wonder how this season might’ve turned out had they not had to play road games in Los Angeles, London and Seattle.

The Colts have lost four of their last five games and have seen their playoff chances slip away. The Bucs would love to put the final nail in the coffin on Indy’s season, and, with the way Tampa Bay has been playing of late, there’s a could chance they’ll do just that.

With that, here is the injury report for both teams for December 5.
