Twitter reacts to Bears signing veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin

Twitter had plenty to say about the Bears signing Bruce Irvin, where there was a lot of concern about Khalil Mack’s foot injury.

The Bears are adding some needed depth at edge rusher with the signing of veteran Bruce Irvin, who will provide some help off the edge as Khalil Mack continues to nurse a foot injury sustained in Week 3.

Irvin, a former first-round draft pick by the Seahawks in 2012, helped lead Seattle to a win in Super Bowlย XLVII against the Broncos. He’s also spent time with the Raiders — with Mack — Falcons and Panthers before returning to the Seahawks last season.

While Irvin had 8.5 sacks with the Panthers in 2019, he played only two games with the Seahawks last season before suffering a torn ACL.

The hope is Irvin, alongside the Bears’ current sack leader Robert Quinn, can revive Chicago’s pass rush as Mack remains sidelined.

Twitter had plenty to say about the Irvin signing, where there was a lot of concern about Mack’s foot injury and plenty of jokes about the Bears reuniting former Raiders teammates in Mack and Irvin.

Bears signing veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin

The Bears enlisted some pass rush help in veteran Bruce Irvin, an indication Khalil Mack might not be ready for Sunday’s game.

The Chicago Bears are reportedly signing veteran pass rusher and former Super Bowl champion Bruce Irvin, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Irvin was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He became a key starter at their linebacker position and helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVII against the Denver Broncos.

Irvin also spent time with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers before returning to Seattle last season. He tore his ACL in Week 2, ending his season and hasn’t played since the injury.

The 34-year old has had a solid nine-year career, totaling at least seven sacks in four seasons, including as recently as 2019 when he totaled 8.5 sacks and 36 tackles.

“Been a long road but I’m back!” Irvin tweeted after the news broke.

Irvin’s signing likely means Khalil Mack isn’t going to see the field anytime soon. The former All-Pro has been dealing with a variety of injuries this season and a foot issue has kept him out of the team’s last two games.

Mack’s status will be updated this weekend prior to the Bears taking on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon.

Bruce Irvin jokes about Jordyn Brooks getting carted off for cramps

On Sunday Brooks had to be carted off the field against the Vikings.

Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks has had a tough year so far. He’s already given up two touchdowns in coverage and has been benched multiple times in favor of Cody Barton. Now, he’s getting heckled by one of the team’s defensive legends on Twitter.

On Sunday Brooks had to be carted off the field against the Vikings.

While it looked serious at the time, it turns out Brooks only had cramps. To be fair, coach Pete Carroll describe them as “really bad.

Still, former Seattle defensive end Bruce Irvin found that pretty funny.

Irvin returned to the Seahawks last year after runs with the Raiders, Falcons and Panthers. He only lasted two games before an ACL tear ended his season, though.

While another reunion with Irvin might be fun, it’s a different Seahawks fan-favorite that the franchise is missing. Allowing K.J. Wright to leave and sign with the Raiders was foolish.

Seahawks’ Bruce Irvin takes shot at Jadeveon Clowney, says Titans have ‘cooties’

Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin has jokes.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin had a lot to say about the Tennessee Titans during their Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Irvin, who suffered an ACL injury in Week 2 and is out for the rest of the season, cracked a few jokes about the Titans, who are in the midst of recovering from an outbreak of COVID-19.

The veteran joked that the Titans have ‘the cooties’ in one tweet, and then he went on to make another joke about the Bills not wanting to tackle the Titans because of the virus.

“I donโ€™t blame the bills,” Irvin tweeted (warning: NSFW). “All that Covid the titans had Iโ€™d b out there running away from they [expletive] trying not to get touched ewwwwww donโ€™t bring that [expletive] over here.”

But Irvin wasn’t done there. He also took a shot at outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney for his lack of sacks so far this season.

And, like everyone else, Irvin reacted to running back Derrick Henry’s vicious stiff-arm on Bills cornerback, Josh Norman.

While the Titans were the butt of Irvin’s jokes on Tuesday night, Tennessee itself certainly wasn’t playing around in what was a statement win over one of the best teams in the NFL.

With the victory, the Titans are among the four unbeaten teams left, a list that includes Irvin’s Seahawks.

Former Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks to visit team Tuesday

Former Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks – who was with Seattle over the last two seasons – is scheduled to visit the team Tuesday.

The Seahawks will never stop trying to improve their roster and this week is no different. Seattle will be hosting a very familiar face at the facility, linebacker Mychal Kendricks.

“Free agent LB Mychal Kendricks is visiting the Seattle Seahawks today, per source,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tweeted Tuesday morning. “Chance to reunite with his team from 2018-19.”

Kendricks played for Seattle over the last two seasons and finished last year on the injured reserve with a torn ACL. However, he has been medically cleared to return to football.

The former Seahawks linebacker is still facing sentencing after his guilty plea to insider trading charges in 2018. The hearing has been repeatedly postponed, most recently rescheduled for Oct. 14.

Seattle is in need of supports after two linebackers have already sustained knee injuries this season – Bruce Irvin, who has been placed on the injured reserve, and rookie Jordan Brooks.

Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks injures knee in 1st NFL start

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks sustained a knee injury during his first NFL start Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks made his first NFL start Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys, filling in the empty spot left by Bruce Irvin, who tore his ACL last Sunday in the team’s win over the New England Patriots.

Now Brooks is the one dealing with a knee injury.

Brooks left the game late in the third quarter and was deemed questionable to return. He was ruled out for the remainder of the matchup shortly thereafter in the fourth quarter.

Coach Pete Carroll should be able to provide an injury update for Brooks – and the rest of Seattle’s banged-up players – during his post-game press conference.

Seahawks rookie LB Jordyn Brooks to start Week 3 against Cowboys

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks will start Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys now that Bruce Irvin is on injured reserve.

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks will get the start Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys now that Bruce Irvin has been placed on injured reserve. Irvin sustained an ACL tear against the Patriots and is finished for the season.

Coach Pete Carroll made the announcement during his Wednesday press conference but would not say whether or not Brooks would be at the SAM or WILL spot on Sunday.

“What’s going to happen this week, this is an opportunity for Jordyn Brooks to start,” Carroll told reporters. “We’ll see how that works out. He is going to take the opportunity to step up and be a part of the three-linebacker situation, so we are looking forward to it.”

The Seahawks are slated to kick off against the Cowboys Sunday afternoon at 1:25 p.m. PT from CenturyLink Field.

Seahawks place 3 players on injured reserve, add 2 from practice squad

The Seahawks have placed Bruce Irvin, Marquise Blair and Phillip Dorsett on the injured reserved ad promoted two from the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a number of personnel moves ahead of the start of Wednesday’s practice. Seattle has placed three players on the injured reserve: wide receiver Phillip Dorsett II, defensive back Marquise Blair and linebacker Bruce Irvin.

Blair and Irvin suffered ACL injuries during the Seahawks’ Week-2 win over the Patriots and the roster moves were anticipated. Both will undergo knee surgery and their seasons are now over.

Dorsett, on the other hand, is dealing with a foot injury but is expected to return to the roster after sitting out the mandatory three games this season. Seattle’s early bye this week will allow Dorsett an additional week to recover.

To fill two of the empty spots on the active roster, the Seahawks have promoted cornerback Linden Stephens and defensive tackle Anthony Rush from the practice squad.

After the personnel moves on Wednesday, Seattle has one open roster spot remaining.

The Seattle Seahawks, like so many teams around the league, suffered a number of injuries on Sunday. Coach Pete Carroll provided some player updates during his Monday afternoon press conference.

Defensive back Marquise Blair and linebacker Bruce Irvin both sustained ACL tears against the Patriots and will undergo knee surgeries. Both Blair and Irvin will be out for the remainder of the season.

Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett II, who was inactive Sunday with a foot injury, has now been ruled out ahead of the Week-3 matchup against the Cowboys so he has additional rest time.

Defensive end Rasheem Green and tackle Cedric Ogbuehi were also inactive Week 2 but have a chance to face Dallas this Sunday.

“Rasheem Green will be evaluated Wednesday, we’ll take one day at a time,” Carroll said. “If he’s back or not, we’ll have to wait and see on that one. Cedric Ogbuehi, he has a chance to get back this week. We’ve got to wait and see how he responds. We’ll start on Wednesday figuring it out and then working our way through it. He and Rasheem are kind of in the same boat that we have to wait and see how those guys respond.”

Finally, tackle Duane Brown briefly left the Patriots matchup with a sore foot but was able to return to the game. Safety Jamal Adams and cornerback Tre Flowers both suffered dislocated fingers but were also able to resume play.

Carroll should have additional, updated injury information on Wednesday during his press conference to kick off the workweek.

Marquise Blair and Bruce Irvin out for season with ACL injuries

Seattle Seahawks defensive back Marquise Blair and linebacker Bruce Irvin are both out for the season after sustaining ACL injuries Week 2.

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll finally confirmed the bad news that had been circulating around all Monday. Seahawks defensive back Marquise Blair and linebacker Bruce Irvin will undergo ACL surgeries in the near future and their seasons are now over.

“Right off the top, both Bruce and Marquise are gonna have to have surgery and that means they will be done for the season,” Carroll told reporters during his afternoon press conference. “Which is really a big blow. I know a lot of teams lost players this weekend and we certainly felt it with both those guys.”

Blair and Irvin had both sustained their knee injuries during the Week-2 matchup against the Patriots on Sunday night and had to leave the game.

“Both those guys have a lot to offer your team in their attitude, approach and style of play,”ย  Carroll continued. “So it will be difficult to replace those guys in that regard . . .ย  We’re gonna miss those guys, I feel terrible for them.”

Blair and Irvin are undoubtedly headed to the injured reserve and Carroll said their replacements won’t be announced until later in the week.
