Eagles release defensive back Marquise Blair

The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing safety Marquise Blair, and the team announced that TE Tyree Jackson has signed his exclusive rights tender

The Eagles announced two moves on Monday, as the team is parting ways with veteran safety Marquise Blair.

The move came after Tyree Jackson signed his exclusive rights tender and just days before Philadelphia will add at least six players from the NFL draft.

A former second-round pick of the Seahawks, Blair played in three games for the Carolina Panthers in 2019 before joining the Eagles practice squad in 2022.

Blair was signed to a reserve/future contract on February 9.

Eagles announce 5 roster moves ahead of Week 11 matchup vs. Colts

The Philadelphia Eagles are placing star tight end Dallas Goedert and defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss the next four games

The Eagles announced a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday as the team returns to the NovaCare Complex to start preparing for the Indianapolis Colts.

Philadelphia will place Dallas Goedert on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss matchups against the Colts, Titans, Packers, and Giants.

The team also announced that defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu is also going on injured reserve, while Tyree Jackson will return to the lineup after being activated off the PUP list.

The team also signed safety Marquise Blair to the practice squad and opened the 21-day practice window for pass rusher Janarius Robinson.

The Philadelphia Eagles are adding another defensive back, signing safety Marquise Blair to the practice squad

The Eagles are all about adding talent to the roster, and with Avonte Maddox on injured reserve, Aaron Wilson is reporting that Marquise Blair will sign to the 16-man practice squad.

Blair is signing after a Monday afternoon visit to the NovaCare Complex.

Blair was released from the Panthers practice squad last week, and he’s a versatile player that was a 2019 second-round pick of the Seahawks out of the University of Utah.

Panthers add three players to practice squad

The busy Panthers made three additions to their practice squad on Monday.

From firing a pair of defensive coaches to bringing quarterback Sam Darnold back to the active roster, the Carolina Panthers had themselves a busy Monday. But they didn’t stop maneuvering there.

The team also added three players to its practice squad—wide receiver Emeka Emezie, linebacker Kobe Jones and cornerback Gavin Heslop.

Emezie, a Waxhaw, N.C. native and Marvin Ridge Maverick, attended North Carolina State University from 2017 to 2021. There, he reeled in 229 receptions for 2,895 yards and 19 touchdowns over 62 games.

Jones, who played his college ball at Mississippi State University from 2017 to 2020, has appeared in one NFL game during his pro career. That outing came this season with the Green Bay Packers back in Week 8—where he played seven snaps on defense and seven on special teams against the Buffalo Bills.

Heslop is a second-year veteran, who played in three games for the Seattle Seahawks in 2021. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder recorded one tackle.

To make room for the trio, Carolina released quarterback Jacob Eason, safety Marquise Blair and defensive Delontae Scott from the practice squad.

Panthers elevate 2 players from practice squad for Week 5

The Panthers called up two players, including a former second-round pick, for their Week 5 tilt against the 49ers.

Between the loss of Jeremy Chinn and the questionable status of Xavier Woods, the Carolina Panthers may be running particularly thin at the safety position in Week 5. So, they’ve called up a reinforcement.

On Saturday, the team elevated two players from its practice squad—one of whom being defensive back Marquise Blair.

Blair, a University of Utah product, was drafted in the second round of the 2019 draft by the Seattle Seahawks. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder played in 22 games for Seattle before his release on Aug. 30.

He’d then be picked up by Carolina on Sept. 5 and added to their practice squad alongside receiver Preston Williams. Blair played in last week’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, recording one tackle over 14 special teams snaps.

While head coach Matt Rhule did tell reporters on Friday that he expects Woods to suit up against the visiting San Francisco 49ers, at least Blair gives the defense a bit of insurance heading into the outing.

Joining Blair in the call-up is wideout Derek Wright, who comes in following the hamstring injuries to Laviska Shenault Jr.

Panthers cut WR Ra’Shaun Henry from practice squad

With Preston Williams and Marquise Blair coming in, the Panthers released Ra’Shaun Henry from their practice squad on Monday.

Daviyon Nixon wasn’t the only youngster the Carolina Panthers had to cut ties with on Monday.

To make room for the two additions to their practice squad from earlier this afternoon, the team released wideout Ra’Shaun Henry. The move was first noted by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

Henry signed on in Carolina as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Virginia. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder appeared in 21 games for the Cavaliers between 2020 and 2021, amassing 41 receptions for 809 yards and seven touchdowns.

His release now officially clears the way on the Panthers’ practice squad for receiver Preston Williams and safety Marquise Blair. They are now the 15th and 16th members of the group, which also currently includes the following players:

  • TE Josh Babicz
  • OL Deonte Brown
  • S Juston Burris
  • QB Jacob Eason
  • CB Madre Harper
  • CB Tae Hayes
  • DE Drew Jordan
  • DE Austin Larkin
  • RB John Lovett
  • LB Arron Mosby
  • WR C.J. Saunders
  • C Sam Tecklenburg
  • TE Colin Thompson
  • WR Derek Wright

Panthers add 2 veterans to practice squad

The Panthers added WR Preston Williams and S Marquise Blair to their practice squad on Monday.

The Carolina Panthers didn’t take Labor Day off.

Along with making an intriguing adjustment on their defensive line—picking up former New England Patriots defensive end Henry Anderson and cutting ties with 2021 fifth-round pick Daviyon Nixon—the team made two additions to its practice squad. Joining the group will be a pair of veterans—wide receiver Preston Williams and safety Marquise Blair.

Williams broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2019. Before being waived back on Aug. 30, the Colorado State University product amassed 56 receptions for 787 yards and seven touchdowns over three seasons.

At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Williams brings some more size to the wideout position for Carolina. The Panthers checked a bit of that box last week as well, having traded for the big-bodied Laviska Shenault Jr. courtesy of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Blair, on the other hand, hit the pros as a high draft pick—a second-rounder from that 2019 class. The 25-year-old, who sat in a crowded safety room following multiple injury-riddled campaigns, was also waived during last Tuesday’s big roster cutdown.

Seahawks 2022 roster cuts: S Marquise Blair is getting released

The Seahawks are releasing safety Marquise Blair, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler at ESPN.

The Seahawks are releasing safety Marquise Blair, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler at ESPN.

Blair was a second-round pick by Seattle in the 2019 NFL draft. He showed promise as a rookie. Unfortunately, he missed most of the last two regular season due to a variety of injuries.

This year Blair switched from playing safety to the slot, but he bombed in Seattle’s first two preseason games this month. While he bounced back with a stronger peformance against the Cowboys, it apparently wasn’t enough.

Blair’s recent play and issues with injuries certainly didn’t help, but the development of Josh Jones as the third safety option may be what truly sealed his fate.

This is the closest thing to a surprise move as we have seen so far. The Seahawks are up to 11 cuts with a little more than an hour left to go before the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline.
