Horns Down in Big 12 Power Rankings after week 7 action

How do the Big 12 teams stack up in this week’s power rankings after the week 7 action?

The top of the Big 12 conference is going to be fascinating to watch the rest of the season. As it stands there are four teams in contention for a spot in the Big 12 championship game.

Those four teams, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Iowa State, have one or fewer losses in Big 12 play thus far.

The season is just halfway over and there’s a lot still to figure out, but those four teams appear to be at the head of the pack. However, like last year when Oklahoma stormed back from two early-season Big 12 losses, there are only a couple of teams that could legitimately be counted out with a handful of games remaining.

Oklahoma’s in great shape to stay undefeated through Big 12 play, but games with Baylor, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State loom large at the end of their schedule. Even if Oklahoma were to navigate their tough end of the season schedule unscathed, they’ll likely be faced with having to play one of those other three teams for the second time in the Big 12 championship game.

With five games left on the Oklahoma Sooners’ schedule, let’s see how the teams stack up in this week’s Big 12 Power Rankings.

Recapping the Big 12 Weekend that was

Oklahoma got the big win against Kansas State. But how did the rest of the Big 12 fair?

The Oklahoma Sooners got another close win to remain undefeated on the year, defeating Kansas State for the first time since 2018, 37-31. However, this win may have been the Sooners’ most complete performance of the season.

Spencer Rattler played great, throwing more touchdowns (2) than interceptions (1) for 243 yards as the offense scored on seven of its eight drives. While some may look at the 37-31 box score and worry about another one-score win, Oklahoma continues to improve to remain ahead of surging Big 12 foes Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Texas.

Big 12 Power Rankings: Full slate of conference games provides clarity after Week 5

After a full slate of Big 12 games, the conference is beginning to provide some clarity. Where do the teams stack up after week five?

After a full slate of Big 12 play, the conference power rankings are starting to shake out a bit. More than ever, there is parity in the Big 12. Every team from 1-9 (sorry, Kansas) has a chance to beat anyone else in the conference week-to-week.

Texas Tech looked like a completely different team after taking a 70-point shellacking at the hands of Texas a week ago. The Red Raiders went into Morgantown and beat a West Virginia team that held the Sooners to 16 points in Norman.

Texas and Oklahoma State won their games after poor performances from quarterbacks who looked to be taking a step forward a week ago. Iowa State bounced back from their loss to Baylor. And speaking of Baylor, the Oklahoma State defense is legit. To hold the Bears to 14 points despite losing the turnover battle 3-0 is a pretty impressive feat. They made Gerry Bohanon look like an average quarterback.

This week the top three teams remained unchanged, but teams 5-9 saw a shakeup. Let’s take a look at this week’s Big 12 Power Rankings.

Where does Texas RB Bijan Robinson rank among the top rushers in the Big 12?

Big 12 rushing leaders through Week 4.

The Big 12 has been full of elite level running backs this season, as it seems that almost every team has at least one elite ball carrier.

Typically when people think of the Big 12, their minds immediately go to the passing game, which at its prime consisted of seemingly every quarterback throwing for over 300 yards and five touchdowns a game.

While the quarterback play within the conference has not been as star-studded as we have grown accustomed to, the running backs in the Big 12 have absolutely been lighting each of their opponents on fire.

The Big 12 may have the best group of running backs of any conference in college football, and many of the top teams within the conference, like Texas and Baylor, have heavily relied on their elite running back rooms to take the pressure off inexperienced quarterbacks.

Let’s take a look at where Texas running back Bijan Robinson lands among the Big 12 rushing leaders through Week 4:

Oklahoma State, Texas, Baylor make Big jump in week 4 Big 12 Power Rankings

The Oklahoma State, Cowboys, Baylor Bears, and the Texas Longhorns rise in this week’s Big 12 power rankings after emphatic wins to start conference play.

What a week it was around the Big 12 as two teams lost their non-conference matchups. There was a huge blowout and three teams won to remain undefeated.

Baylor and Iowa State played the game of the week, a thrilling affair that saw Iowa State rally from down 12 in the final quarter and a half to give themselves a chance to tie with a two-point conversion at the end. The pressure got to Cyclones’ quarterback Brock Purdy who had to heave the ball into the end zone with the hopes a player could make a play. It would be for not as the Baylor Bears pulled off an early upset in Big 12 play.

Texas looks like they have their answer at quarterback and Spencer Sanders had a fantastic game to keep Oklahoma State undefeated.

Let’s take a look at how the conference stacks up in this week’s Big 12 power rankings.

Ranking the top 10 players for fantasy football from the Big 12 conference

Here are 10 players that you should target in fantasy football this season.

The Big 12 conference is full of talented players this season.

Texas’ Bijan Robinson and Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler are crucial to their respective teams, but they’re also beneficial to another team as well.

I’m talking about your fantasy football squad.

Fantasy football is something that many college football fans partake in, but unlike the NFL where there is just 32 teams to select your team from, there are over a hundred collegiate teams that have players who can secure your spot in the championship.

There is a deep pool of talent across the nation, but some of what should be the top scorers in fantasy football this year will likely hail from the Big 12. That is why I ranked the top 10 players in the Big 12, who are poised to not only have huge seasons for their respective schools, but also for your fantasy team.

Considering this is just a ranking of the top 10, here a few honorable mentions:

  • Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar
  • Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough
  • Texas Tech wide receiver Erik Ezukanma
  • Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders
  • TCU running back Zach Evans
  • Oklahoma tight end Austin Stogner
  • Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy

These seven players are worth taking in middle rounds and are very underrated, but could be one of your team’s best players.

Breece Hall is a big problem for opposing defenses

Iowa State’s Breece Hall led all Power 5 running backs in multiple categories last year, and he’s primed to do the same in 2021

If your favorite NFL team will be looking to add a dynamic running back in the 2022 NFL draft, Iowa State’s Breece Hall should be high on their priority list heading into the 2021 college football season.

Hall proved to be a big challenge for opposing defenses last year, leading all Power 5 running backs in touchdowns, first-down runs, missed tackles forced, and runs of 15 yards or more (per Pro Football Focus).

A well-rounded prospect with a solid blend of speed and power, Hall has a three-down skill set and the versatility to fit in any offensive scheme. With another strong campaign in 2021, he could easily find himself in the first-round conversation, and potentially be the first running back off the board.

Big 12 Football: Ranking the top 10 players in the conference for 2021

The Big 12 will be home to some of the top players in the country throughout the 2021 college football season.

The Big 12 is certainly home to elite talent and is looking to assert itself as a dominant conference throughout the college football world. Although Oklahoma has made the College Football Playoff multiple times, they’ve lost and practically been blown out every time.

On top of that, it was a down year as a whole for the Big 12 last season. There were no playoff representatives and the conference did not produce a single first round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

For 2021, the conference has the potential to have at least three teams vying for a playoff spot and there are many playmakers across the board. So much in fact that Iowa State’s star tight end Charlie Kolar was narrowly left off of this list.
