Notre Dame adds a dynamic wide receiver to 2023 recruiting class

The Irish add yet another big time playmaker to the ‘23 class

The Irish had been looking for another offensive playmaker and found their man this afternoon. Texas wide receiver [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] verbally committed to Notre Dame and thus adding to their ever growing impressive 2023 recruiting class.

The six-foot-two-inch and 215-pound receiver chose the Irish over Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon, Baylor, Texas, USC and others. Greathouse now becomes the highest ranked offensive prospect the Irish have committed, overtaking fellow Texan and soon to be position mate [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag]. Greathouse is the third commitment at his position, joining James and Californian [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag]. He also becomes the 20th commitment of the class that looks to be almost complete before the season gets started.

Greathouse had been leaning towards committing to Notre Dame for quite some time and that finally came true today. Since there are only a few more spots remaining in the class, [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] now has the ability to become extremely picky as to who else will be added. It’s a great position to be in.

Five top WR targets Notre Dame recruits harder after missing out on Tate

Who is next up?

The Irish haven’t missed much during the 2023 recruiting cycle, but they did unfortunately do that today. Florida wide receiver [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] announced his commitment to Ohio State, which means it’s back to the recruiting board for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag]. Already in the fold at the position is [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] but it’s clear the Irish want more players at the position. Here are five realistic wide receiver prospects that the Irish will be recruiting harder now that Tate is off the board.

Notre Dame sees 2023 wide receiver commit to ACC opponent

On to the next one

The Irish have been looking all across the country for skill player talent and today they can scratch another name off their board. After California wide receiver [autotag]DeAndre Moore Jr.[/autotag] decommitted from Oklahoma, Notre Dame was among a small group of schools that the star receiver was still considering.

Moore Jr. is not long considering anyone except Louisville, who got a verbal pledge from the six-foot and 185-pound star this afternoon. For the Cardinals, the Californian represents hope, one of the highest all-time commitments in their programs history. As for [autotag]Marcus Freeman [/autotag] and the Irish, it’s back to the drawing board to find another elite receiver prospect.

There are still some big-time receivers still looking very hard at the Irish which include Florida’s [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], Texas’s [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], North Carolina’s [autotag]Christian Hamilton[/autotag] and California’s [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag]. The hope is that at least two of these highly thought of pass-catchers join Texas’ [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] in South Bend.

Florida 2023 WR Tate reportedly close to decision: Is Notre Dame still an option?

Are the Irish still in it?

The 2023 recruiting class for the Irish is viewed by most analysts as one of the best in the country. It is defensive heavy however, as most of the current commitments play on that side of the ball.

It is well known that [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is in pursuit of some very high-level prospects on that side of the ball, but just Texas receiver [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] can be considered elite out of the current crop of verbals. One of the biggest targets is Florida receiver [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], who at one point prepped in Illinois thus the good relationship with the Irish.

However, according to a report from 247Sports Bill Kurelic (subscription required), it seems that Tate will be making a decision fairly soon and the Irish might be on the outside looking in. Kurelic’s sources tell him that it’s Tennessee that could be the biggest foe against perceived leader Ohio State for Tate’s commitment. He has yet to publicly announce any commitment intentions, but if the rumor is true Freeman has some work to do with Tate’s recruitment.

Notre Dame receiver target moves up date of decision

What do you make of this?

When Notre Dame made the final cut for receiver recruit [autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag], July 4 was tabbed as the day he would make his decision. A couple of days later, Irish receiver commit [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] took to Twitter to try and sway him towards South Bend. Now, it turns out James and the rest of the Irish won’t have to wait as long for Gallagher to make up his mind. Gallagher apparently doesn’t need as much time to think about his future because he sent out these thoughts:

The Irish and seven other programs, all of which come from Power Five conferences, are in the running for Gallagher’s services. The only thing we know for sure is that he can’t go wrong with any of the finalists. You’d think with his choices, he would take all the time necessary to weigh his options. However, as is often said after engagements become official, when you know, you know.

Notre Dame commit Braylon James targets another receiver recruit

Would you like to see this trio playing for the Irish? Of course you would.

It appears [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag], a four-star receiver commit for Notre Dame, is using Twitter to attract other recruits. Not long ago, James tweeted out a graphic anticipating a collegiate partnership with fellow Texas native [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag]. That must have worked to some degree because the Irish are one of four finalists for Greathouse. With some good mojo, James now is turning his attention to Pennsylvania’s [autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag]:

The good news is Gallagher also has a strong interest in the Irish as they are among the eight finalists for him. Hopefully, James’ efforts will land him at least one of these two receivers as his teammate. For all we know, the three of them have been exchanging texts and calls planning how they will make their first entrance together at Notre Dame Stadium, thereby making these pending announcements mere formalities. It sure would be exciting to know exactly how tight they are, but that will remain a mystery for now.

Notre Dame a finalist for another standout Texas wide receiver

Something something, horns down, something something.

The [autotag]Chasni Stuckey[/autotag] hire is already paying off for Notre Dame as the new wide receivers coach landed a commitment from Texas product [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] a short time ago and is now in hot pursuit of another top Lone Star State target.

[lawrence-related id=55099]

[autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], a four-star recruit who recently visited Notre Dame, released his top four schools on Sunday and the Irish made the cut.  Joining Notre Dame as finalists for the 6-2, 220-pound Greathouse are Texas, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.

More good news for Notre Dame is that the Irish were pegged as his choice in a pair of crystal ball predictions earlier in the week.

Greathouse has put up just silly numbers in his three years at Westlake High School in Austin as he’s pulled down 182 receptions for 3,134 yards and 40 touchdowns in 46 games, including 20 in 16 games last year as a junior.

No those aren’t mistypes.

Greathouse didn’t announce when he’ll make his final decision but to put some context to what Stuckney is already impacting, Greathouse would be just the eighth wide receiver from Texas to commit to Notre Dame since 2000, but the second in the 2023 recruiting class.

Braylon James tries to recruit fellow Texas receiver to Notre Dame

How would you like to have both of these receivers?

Now that receiver Braylon James fully is committed to Notre Dame, he’ll try to attract as much high-end talent to the program as possible. One recruit he has his eye on is fellow class of 2023 four-star receiver and Texas native Jaden Greathouse. While they don’t attend the same high school, James clearly thinks highly enough of Greathouse that he wants him to put the same college uniform. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have tweeted this out:

Notre Dame is indeed one of the programs that has extended an offer to Greathouse. However, 247Sports currently has him going to Texas, which made him an offer as a freshman along with Oklahoma and Baylor. Among the other programs on the radar are USC, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Colorado and Arkansas. Naturally, we hope he ends up with the Irish, but it sounds like a few things will need to break in that direction for it to happen.

Notre Dame moves back to the top spot in recruiting rankings

That didn’t take long

The Irish’s fall from the top overall ranking in the 2023 recruiting class did not last very long. After the decommitment of cornerback Justyn Rhett of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend, Notre Dame’s grasp as the best recruiting haul was over.

It did not take long for the Irish to regain that stop, as this evening Texas wide receiver Braylon James verbally committed to Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. The six-foot-two-inch and 185-pound pass catcher is widely considered one of the best prospects in the country regardless of position and his verbal jumped the Irish back ahead of the pack according to the 247Sports 2023 recruiting class calculator.

The Irish jumped Texas Tech, who had overtaken them over the weekend, and regained the number one ranking. What’s impressive however are the number of recruits, the Red Raiders having fifteen commits to the Irish’s nine. Quality over quantity, as Notre Dame once again has the best recruiting class in the 2023 class as of today.
