Arizona senior Caleb Love was among the 45 players invited to participate in the 2024 NBA G League Elite Camp May 11-12 at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Love was voted a third-team All-American by the Associated Press and the Pac-12 Player of the Year after averaging 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals on 41.3% shooting from the field with the Wildcats. He finished fourth in the conference in scoring.

The 6-foot-4 guard transferred to Arizona in May 2023 after spending three years at North Carolina. He finished with 1,476 career points in 101 games with the Tar Heels and made 200 3-pointers, which ranks eighth in program history.

The 45 prospects invited to the G League Elite Camp were voted on by team executives. The list of players typically indicates those with the highest odds of being selected or signed as undrafted free agents with teams after the draft on June 27.

The event will feature 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Prospects will have the opportunity to improve their draft stock in a competitive environment against their peers.

The top players from the G League Elite Camp will be invited to participate in the draft combine on May 12-19. The event has helped several players advance to the combine and eventually make it to the NBA, including Jose Alvarado, Kenneth Lofton Jr. and Terance Mann.

Let’s dive into who the Celtics might be targeting at No. 35.

Even with the offseason here in earnest, the Boston Celtics have plenty on their plate regarding their future as they continue to work out prospects projected to go in the second round of the ’23 NBA draft.

With the Celtics likely to need cheap depth in the future, look for prospects who are either polished enough to get some real minutes in their rookie campaign or who might be okay with a season or two stashed abroad while the team makes decisions about how it will use the new two way player slot added to rosters in the latest collective bargaining agreement recently adopted by the league.

Adding to our previous reporting of the team’s known workouts comes a new wave of prospects Boston has been working out — let’s dive into who the Celtics might be targeting at No. 35.

USC shuts out Utah star Branden Carlson in final 18 minutes, showing how the Trojans have to play

We keep saying it, because it remains true: USC has to win games with its defense and its effort. Containing opposing frontcourts will be essential to a big push.

The USC Trojans did a lot of things right against Utah. The most important thing might have been that after Utah star Branden Carlson scored 21 points in the game’s first 21 and a half minutes, USC shut him out in the final 18 and a half minutes of the contest.

With Carlson unable to score down the stretch, Utah’s offense — which doesn’t amount to much outside of Carlson — fell apart. The Utes scored just nine points in the final 14 minutes of this game. USC led 48-47 with just over 14 minutes remaining. The Trojans ended up winning by 15 points. They outscored Utah 23-9 in those last 14 minutes.

Obviously, what USC did against Carlson was valuable and important in and of itself. The Trojans needed this win; their defense against Carlson helped them attain a vital victory.

Yet, what is also significant about USC’s display against Carlson is that the Trojans will need this same robust defense against opposing big men when they face Arizona and UCLA.

USC needs to contain Azuolas Tubelis, Oumar Ballo, and Adem Bona. The Trojans have to clamp down on Arizona’s and UCLA’s bigs and force the Wildcats and Bruins to win the game through their backcourt players. If USC can set up shop in the paint and not allow easy baskets or free throws, the Trojans will increase their margin for error.
