Questions Ohio State football needs to answer to defeat Wisconsin

What questions do you want to see Ohio State answer against Wisconsin? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] will take on the Wisconsin Badgers at night in what should be a rowdy Camp Randall.

Although the Badgers aren’t quite as good as the Buckeyes last opponent, they’re out on the outside of the getting ranked, so it’s not as if they’re a bottom of the barrel Big Ten team.

The Buckeyes are facing off against a quarterback in freshman [autotag]Braedyn Locke[/autotag], who is making his second career start, so the Badgers have plenty of questions about how he will play.

As for Ohio State, they also have plenty of questions entering this contest and here are the biggest ones that stand out in my eyes.

WATCH: WR Will Pauling is mic’d up at practice

New star WR takes fans behind the scenes

Wisconsin is coming off of a 25-21 win over Illinois in Week 8, improving to 5-2 on the season. In the contest, wide receiver Will Pauling led the team with seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Pauling was mic’d up at practice this week in Madison, giving the fans a look into his personality behind the scenes. The wide receiver is one of the more sociable players on the team, which is pretty evident in the video.

His 20-yard score with 7:21 left in the game was a crucial play for the Badgers, but one of his teammates wasn’t very impressed (sarcastic). Check out the rather entertaining video below:

WATCH: Urban Meyer breaks down Locke’s game-winning drive

Urban Meyer compliments new Badgers QB

Urban Meyer broke down the tape of Wisconsin’s Week 8 win over a Big Ten foe. The Badgers (5-2) defeated Illinois 25-21 last Saturday on the road in Champaign, while redshirt freshman quarterback Braedyn Locke made his first career start.

Meyer and Gerry DiNardo went through the tape on “The Braedyn Locke Drive” which included a deep pass down the sideline to Skyler Bell and a game-winning touchdown to backup offensive lineman Nolan Rucci.

Wisconsin will now host third-ranked Ohio State (7-0) on Saturday at Camp Randall, kicking off at 6:30. The Badgers have lost nine straight to the Buckeyes and new head coach Luke Fickell, a long time coach for Ohio State, will look to break that streak.

Know your foe, Wisconsin: Which Badgers could give Ohio State problems

Which Badgers are you concerned about? #GoBucks

When everyone looked at this season’s schedule, many believed this weekend’s contest between [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] and Wisconsin would have been a top-25 matchup.

That isn’t the case. The Badgers have been tripped up twice already, but it still is a very intriguing game. Former Buckeye [autotag]Luke Fickell[/autotag] inherited a Wisconsin program that didn’t quite fit his style of play, and it has shown during his first season.

Their air raid offense just does not have the personnel to run it at the moment, but that doesn’t mean Wisconsin isn’t a dangerous team. Find out below which Badgers could give Ohio State some problems on Saturday evening.

WATCH: Badgers come back to beat Illinois on the road

Watch Badgers comeback unfold

The Badgers football team (5-2) defeated Illinois 25-21 on the road in Week 8, a game in which they were trailing 21-7 late in the third quarter. Redshirt freshman quarterback Braedyn Locke led Wisconsin to the improbable comeback.

Nathanial Vakos opened the scoring in the Badgers’ 18-point fourth quarter by hitting a 41-yard field goal (ricocheted in off the goal poast) with 14:13 to go, putting the score at 21-10.

The team’s next possession was an 82-yard drive, capped off by a 20-yard touchdown catch from Will Pauling. Riley Nowakowski reeled in the two-point conversion to narrow the deficit to 21-18.

Finally, Locke hit backup offensive lineman Nolan Rucci for a game-winning three-yard touchdown catch with 27 seconds left in the contest, giving Wisconsin the 25-21 win.

Wisconsin versus Ohio State football series history

Can Badgers snap nine-game drought versus Big Ten rival?

The Badgers football team (5-2) will host Ohio State (7-0) on Saturday at 6:30PM. The two programs have faced each other 85 times throughout their football history with Wisconsin owning a 18-62-5 overall record against their Big Ten foe.

Over the last 10 matchups, the Badgers have gone 1-9, losing nine in a row. The team’s last win came at home in 2010, defeating the Buckeyes 31-18. Last season, Ohio State won in Columbus by a score of 52-21.

The most notable storyline for the contest is head coach Luke Fickell, who played college football with Ohio State as a defensive end (1993-1996) before joining the coaching staff from 2002-2016.

The Badgers are very much back in the thick of it in the Big Ten West and Luke Fickell and his squad will look to pull off the upset versus the third-ranked Buckeyes.

CHECK IT OUT: Best pics from Badgers 25-21 win over Illinois

Badgers rally for crucial win

The Badgers football team travelled to Illinois for a conference matchup on Saturday in Champaign, beating the Fighting Illini 25-21. Illinois went up 14-0 early, but Wisconsin was able to rally back.

Wisconsin had redshirt freshman Braedyn Locke under center, replacing Tanner Mordecai (hand) at quarterback. Locke was able to compile 240 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Illinois was led by their quarterback Luke Altmyer, who had 100 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in the contest.

The most notable play of the game came when Locke was able to connect with backup offensive lineman Nolan Rucci for a three-yard touchdown with 27 seconds left, giving Wisconsin the 25-21 victory.

Here are some of the best pictures from the game:

Wisconsin HC Luke Fickell explains quarterback depth chart after Tanner Mordecai’s injury

Wisconsin suffered a major blow during its crushing 15-6 loss to Iowa on Saturday, as starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai broke his hand and is now out indefinitely.

The news was originally reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel and was confirmed by head coach Luke Fickell.

The Wisconsin head coach went on to clarify where the team’s quarterback depth chart stands during his press conference on Monday. Redshirt freshman Braedyn Locke will be the team’s starter, with a competition between Myles Burkett and Nick Evers for the backup job.

Locke went 15/30 for 122 yards and one interception in relief of Mordecai against Iowa. Wisconsin did score points with Locke in the game, something it wasn’t able to do before Mordecai was injured. But the two second-half field goals were not enough to win the game.

Locke was a four-star recruit who committed to Mississippi State in the class of 2022 before transferring to Wisconsin this past offseason. The Badgers will now need to rely heavily on running back Braelon Allen, something the team wasn’t able to do during Saturday’s loss.

Report: Wisconsin QB Tanner Mordecai broke his hand Saturday vs Iowa

Here is the injury to add to the insult of Wisconsin’s 15-6 loss to Iowa on Saturday.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported this morning that Wisconsin starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai broke his hand against Iowa and ‘is expected to be out for the immediate future.’

Mordecai was injured late in the second quarter of Saturday’s loss when he hit his hand on an Iowa player’s helmet while completing a pass to wide receiver Will Pauling. The veteran quarterback stayed in for one more play before appearing to say to the sideline ‘I can’t throw.’

Freshman Braedyn Locke went the rest of the way, completing 15 of 30 passes for 122 yards and one interception. Wisconsin scored just six points the rest of the contest with Locke under center and failed to capitalize on Iowa totaling just 70 second-half yards.

Luke Fickell and Phil Longo are now forced to prepare Locke to start for the foreseeable future, including for contests next week at Illinois and the following week vs Ohio State.

Badger Countdown: New number 18 could be future starter under center

Is 18 the future under center?

The 2023 college football season is on the horizon and the Badgers are now 18 days away from their opener against Buffalo on Sept. 2 at home. Transferring to Madison this offseason, quarterback Braedyn Locke will wear number 18 with Wisconsin.

Locke didn’t see any action as a true freshman last season with Mississippi State and he joined Luke Fickell’s squad in January, bringing four years of eligibility with him. The quarterback has impressed this summer and he’s expected to be the primary backup to Tanner Mordecai in 2023.

With Mordecai in his final collegiate campaign, Locke could be the next man up to take over under center next year. It’ll likely be a competition between him and former Oklahoma recruit Nick Evers.
