Twitter reacts to Braden Lenzy’s incredible touchdown catch

Did you see this?!

Just when [autotag]Braden Lenzy[/autotag] seemed forgotten this season, he emerged as a key figure in the first quarter of Notre Dame’s game against Navy. Through two offensive possessions for the Irish, Lenzy was leading all receivers with four catches for 67 yards. One reception came on the first drive for 21 yards. Another was made possible by a 38-yard pass from [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag], and it was, well, just look at it:

This catch that you only see a few times a season at most throughout college football gave the Irish a 14-0 lead. Even a few of the sailors in attendance had to look at each other in disbelief. You know you’ve done something special when the opposing fans have no choice but to give you credit for what they just saw. Twitter couldn’t believe what had happened either, and you’ll see it from these folks, many of whom undoubtedly still haven’t picked their jaws off the floor:

Notre Dame WR Braden Lenzy makes the catch of the year for TD vs. Navy

Notre Dame receiver Braden Lenzy made the catch of the year in the NCAA for a touchdown against Navy.

There are those receivers throughout football history who, even even they’re covered, they’re open. The ability to make contested catches, especially int he red zone and end zone? That’s a highly profitable skill.

In Notre Dame’s Saturday game against Navy, receiver Braden Lenzy made one of the more amazing such catches you’ll ever see. Lenzy had been posted up by his defender, and instead of giving up on the play when the ball was thrown to him, Lenzy had the presence of mind to reach back around the defender to steal the ball in the end zone.

Here’s another, equally fascinating view.

The senior came into this game with 14 catches on 128 yards and a touchdown on the season. That Saturday catch might have been better than all his other receptions… combined.

Letā€™s get wild, week 9: Statistical predictions for Notre Dame vs Syracuse

Which stats do you think help the Irish get a win today?

Although Syracuse isnā€™t a traditional power, they still boast a very quality team this fall. Their lone loss was last week to an undefeated Clemson squad, which didnā€™t really give a blueprint for how to beat the Orange. The Irish will have to do it their way and here are some stats that could help Notre Dame get another road upset victory against a ranked opponent.

Five stars: The best and worst from Notre Dameā€™s win over Cal

Who did well and who didnā€™t?

A win is a win no matter how it happens and this one must feel great for the Irish. It was a long time coming as the Marcus Freeman era began with three straight losses. Although Cal would not just roll over in Notre Dame Stadium, the Irish earned a win that came down to the wire. Here are the best, 5-stars, and worst, 1-star, performances from Notre Dameā€™s win over Cal.

Watch: Speedy highlights of Notre Dame’s latest commitment

There is fast and then there is blazing fast and Notre Dame’s latest commitment is the latter.

The thing about watching athletes worthy of Division I scholarships on tape against your average high schoolers is that of course they’re going to stand out. Ā If they didn’t then they almost certainly wouldn’t be seen as the prized recruiting prospects that they are.

Notre Dame landed a commitment from running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] on Saturday, their third commit in the last three days. Ā If you’ve followed his recruiting at all there are probably two things you’re aware of:

  1. He was previously committed to Kansas State
  2. He’s really fast. Ā Like REALLY fast.

That’s at least what has been said about him and Notre Dame has undoubtedly improved their team speed as a whole in recent years by landing players like [autotag]Braden Lenzy[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Tyree[/autotag], and [autotag]Lorenzo Styles[/autotag].

The most impressive thing in Edwards film isn’t that he runs away from people but by just how much. Ā In watching below don’t just look at him running away from opponents but watch and enjoy just how badly he beats opponents to the angle they’re trying to catch him at.

The culmination of the spring football season is upon us, the Blue and Gold game is set to be on our screens and for some of us, in the stands of Notre Dame Stadium. For the most part all the work these players have put in has been behind the scenes, but now, they emerge from the shadows of Irish Athletic Complex and give us a sneak peak of whatā€™s to come this fall. Here are five outcomes weā€™d love to see come out of the spring.

Veteran Notre Dame receiver to miss rest of spring with foot injury

What is your overall feeling about Notre Dame’s wide receiver situation five months ahead of the season opener?

The injury bug showed its ugly head again this week at Notre Dame where spring practice continues.Ā  Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] announced Saturday that grad-student [autotag]Joe Wilkins, Jr.[/autotag] is done for the spring after suffering a foot injury earlier in the week.

Freeman stated that Wilkins is expected to be ready to go for the regular season but the injury is another setback for him as he’s coming off an MCL injury last season that kept him out the final two months of the regular season.Ā  In his five games played last year Wilkins did pull down four receptions for 61 yards and an impressive touchdown reception against Florida State.

[lawrence-related id=33593]

Currently Notre Dame has grad-students [autotag]Braden Lenzy[/autotag] and [autotag]Matt Salerno[/autotag], sophomores [autotag]Deion Colzie[/autotag], [autotag]Lorenzo Styles[/autotag], and [autotag]Jayden Thomas[/autotag], as well as walk-on [autotag]Conor Ratigan[/autotag] healthy at receiver.Ā  Freshman [autotag]Tobias Merriweather[/autotag] did not enroll early and will arrive at Notre Dame in June.Ā  Grad-student [autotag]Avery Davis[/autotag]Ā remains sidelined as he’s coming off an ACL injury last November.

The Wilkins news is unfortunate but perhaps the little bit of good news that comes with it is that more reps for talented underclassmen are now available this spring.

Notre Dame WR Thomas prepping like heā€™s going to contribute in ā€˜22

He could be the one to step up

The Irish are going to need playmakers to step up this fall and it looks like second-year wide receiver Jayden Thomas is getting ready to do so. The Georgia native didnā€™t see the field often in his first season, two other freshman receivers, Lorenzo Styles Jr. and Deion Colzie did.

Last years leading receiver Kevin Austin is gone, with returning veterans Braden Lenzy and Avery Davis leading the way. His two classmates will contribute as well, we canā€™t forget about tight end Michael Mayer either, but there will be room for others to step up.

Thomas seemingly wants to be that guy and the potential is there for him to do so. The former two-sport star, baseball, is putting his full focus on football. It looks like itā€™s paying off.

Four Notre Dame commits to play in Polynesian Bowl

Want to watch the future of the football program?

Want to catch a glimpse at some of the Notre Dame stars of tomorrow? Was the All-American Bowl not enough for you? You’re in luck if you’re able to stay up late. The Polynesian Bowl will be played at 11:30 p.m. EST Saturday on the CBS Sports Network, and four recruits who have committed to Notre Dame are on the roster.

The four players to look out for are as follows:

  • Receiver Tobias Merriweather of Camas, Washington
  • Tight end Holden Staes of Atlanta
  • Linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka of Mission Hills, California
  • Offensive tackle Aamil Wagner of Dayton, Ohio

Notre Dame commits who previously have played in this game include Chris Tyree, Marist Liufau, Jayson Ademilola, Braden Lenzy and Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. While making this game obviously is not a reflection of how they’ll play in college, it does make people excited about what the future of the program could be. If you’re curious about that or you simply want to watch more football, this is the game to tune into.

Notre Dame speedster returning for another year

Some good news in regards to the receiver position in 2022…

Notre Dame will have questions at wide receiver as the Irish turn their attention to preparing for the 2022 season but they did get good news for the position on Sunday night as Braden Lenzy went the way of Arnold Schwarzenegger in declaring his return next season.

Lenzy burst onto the scene in 2019 with several explosive plays for Notre Dame before 2020 saw him battle a hamstring injury that severely limited his availability.Ā  2021 saw Lenzy haul in 32 receptions for 350 yards and three touchdowns.

With Kevin Austin off to the NFL and significant struggles in recent years to recruit the position, Lenzy could very well see a bigger role in the offense in 2022.Ā  His speed along with what Chris Tyree and Lorenzo Styles bring to the offense could bring big problems for opposing defenses.

Lenzy’s return answers some of the questions regarding Notre Dame at receiver in 2022 but Avery Davis’s decision still remains to be seen.Ā  Regardless, I’d anticipate Marcus Freeman, Tommy Rees, and company to be looking for additions to the position by way of the transfer portal this off-season.
