Virginia Tech at Boston College odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Boston College Eagles odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

On Friday evening, the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4) visit Alumni Stadium to take on the Boston College Eagles (4-4). The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Virginia Tech at Boston College odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Virginia Tech may be coming in with four losses, but it really hasn’t lost any surprising games aside from a five-point defeat to the hand of Syracuse. Other than that, the Hokies lost to Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

The Hokies don’t have an overly explosive offense, averaging 24.0 points per game. However, Virginia Tech fourth-year junior QB Braxton Burmeister has been thriving this season, nearing 1,500 passing yards.

It will be the Tech defense that must hold up though against a run-heavy Boston College. The Eagles are averaging over 150 rushing yards per game, mainly behind three-star recruit RB Pat Garwo III.

Boston College has also recently lost to Syracuse. The Eagles are currently on a four-game losing streak and are looking to bounce back at home in what should be a competitive matchup.

Virginia Tech at Boston College odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Virginia Tech 31, Boston College 24

Money line

PASS on the Virginia Tech money line as it’s just a tad bit too pricey. I like  Virginia Tech (-155) here in a parlay as I do think the Hokies win at Boston College. However, I’d rather take the points with Virginia Tech.

Against the spread

BET on VIRGINIA TECH -2.5 (-125) as Boston College has been embarrassingly bad lately. The Eagles started the season on a four-game win streak and have since lost four straight.

Most aren’t even good losses either, getting doubled up on by Louisville and losing by 26 to NC State. BC is dependent on the run game a bit too much for my liking as well.

As for Virginia Tech, Burmeister has proven to be a great game manager with just 3 interceptions in 9 games so I expect few turnovers. BC gave up nearly 300 yards on the ground last week.

BC’s run defense is that bad, and the Eagles have been struggling. I’m going with the more proven side laying just 2.5 points.

Over/Under

BET on the OVER 47.5 (-110) as Virginia Tech’s defense is bad at defending what the BC offense does best.

Virginia Tech can’t defend the run well. The Hokies are giving up more than 175 rushing yards per game. Coming off just a six-point effort against Syracuse at home, Virginia Tech should be looking to rebound.

BC scored 40-plus in three of four games to start the season and hasn’t topped 15 once on this losing streak. Virginia Tech has given up 28 or more in three of its last four. BC’s offense should be able to get back on track vs. this soft Virginia Tech defense.

With Virginia Tech having a more balanced attack, the Hokies should be able to put some points as well, likely covering that spread and cashing the Over on the road.

Boston College at Clemson odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Boston College at Clemson odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Boston College Eagles (4-0, 0-0 ACC) and No. 19 Clemson Tigers (2-2, 1-1) meet Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Boston College vs. Clemson odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Eagles roll into this one a perfect 4-for-4, including a 41-34 overtime win over Missouri last weekend in Chestnut Hill. It was a nice win for new QB Dennis Grosel, who took over in the UMass win after QB Phil Jurkovec suffered a season-ending wrist injury.

The Tigers are coming off an overtime loss at NC State last weekend, falling 27-21. Two losses before October isn’t something we’ve seen from Clemson since 2014. They’re also 0-4 ATS with the Under going 3-1.

Rankings according to the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Boston College at Clemson odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Clemson 27, Boston College 20

Money line

Clemson (-800) is a good bet to bounce back as a third loss in five games is unfathomable. But you can’t risk eight times your potential return on this team that has been more inconsistent than anybody in the ACC.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

BOSTON COLLEGE +15.5 (-112) is a very good play against a Clemson -15.5 (-108) side that hasn’t covered in four tries this season. Grosel has proven that he is capable of running this offense and keeping them on track.

There is just something missing from this Tigers offense, and them beating anybody by two touchdowns, let alone an unbeaten and fundamentally sound team, seems rather unlikely.

Stream college football games on ESPN+ by signing up here.

Over/Under

OVER 45.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit play. Clemson’s offense is going to get revved up sooner or later, and B.C. hasn’t really missed a beat with Grosel under center. I wouldn’t go crazy and slam the Over here, but we’ll see enough points.

Boston College vs. Duke odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Boston College Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The 15th-seeded Boston College Eagles (4-15) face the 10th-seeded Duke Blue Devils (11-11) Tuesday on the opening day of the ACC Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. Below, we analyze the Boston College-Duke college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Boston College finished last in the ACC with a 2-11 conference record. At 9-9, Duke is 10th and will likely miss the NCAA tourney for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

Neither team is ranked in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tuesday’s winner advances to a second-round matchup Wednesday against the seventh-seeded Louisville Cardinals (13-6) for a 6:30 p.m. ET tip.

Boston College vs. Duke: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Boston College +650 (bet $100 to win $650) | Duke -1000 (bet $1,000 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Boston College +12.5 (-105) | Duke -12.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 152.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Boston College vs. Duke: Three things to know

  1. Duke beat Boston College 83-82 (Jan. 6) in the only regular-season meeting between the two. Sophomore F Wendell Moore Jr. came off the bench and matched a career-high with 25 points for the Blue Devils, who failed to cover as 11.5-point home favorites. BC led by 16 late in the first half, but were outscored 48-39 in the second and came up a point short after the game was tied 75-all with 1:43 to go. All five Eagles starters scored in double figures, led by sophomore F CJ Felder’s career-high 24 points.
  2. The Eagles enter on a 2-game skid and have lost 6 of their last 7 games. They recently dropped an 80-76 decision as 4-point underdogs at Miami Friday. For the season, sophomore G Jay Heath’s 15.1 points per game leads four Eagles in double figures.
  3. Duke suffered an ugly 91-73 loss as a 3-point dog at rival North Carolina Saturday. The Blue Devils never led as they dropped a third consecutive game and finished the regular season without a winning record for the first time since 1994-95. Sophomore F Matthew Hurt leads Duke with 18.7 PPG and 6.2 RPG.

Against the spread (ATS)

Back BOSTON COLLEGE +12.5 (-105). The Eagles are 3-1 ATS when getting 10 or more points this season. The Blue Devils are 0-6 ATS when favored by 7.5 or more points – and 0-5 ATS when favored by double digits.

The line will likely climb before tip-off, so it could be worth waiting on till we get another point or two.

ATS: Boston College 8-10-1 | Duke 7-15

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 152.5 (-115) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Over is 6-0 in the Blue Devils’ last six outings and 9-1 in their last 10.

BC is on a 3-0 Over run and 6-2 O/U in its last eight games. The Eagles also have one of the worst defenses in the country, allowing 79.2 PPG.

O/U records: Boston College 13-6-1 | Duke 14-7-1

Boston College at Florida State odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Boston College at Florida State odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston College Eagles (4-13 overall, 2-9 ACC) visit the Florida State Seminoles (14-4, 10-3) in a Wednesday night (9 p.m. ET) contest at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Below, we analyze the Boston College-Florida State odds and lines, with NCAA college basketball picks and predictions.

Florida State is No. 11 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Boston College at Florida State: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Boston College +1350 (bet $100 to win $1,350) | Florida State -5000 (bet $5,000 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Boston College +18.5 (-110) | Florida State -18.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 154.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Boston College at Florida State: Three things to know

  1. Florida State leads the ACC in scoring at 79.2 points per game. The Seminoles have been held under 78 points just three times since Dec. 21. They lost all three of those games, and that includes a 78-70 loss to North Carolina on Saturday.
  2. Boston College defeated Notre Dame, 94-90, Saturday, thus snapping a four-game losing skid. That game was at home; BC is 0-5 in true road games this season. The Eagles are 1-8 in away-neutral games.
  3. No team in the ACC has yielded more than the Eagles’ 78.3 PPG this season. Boston College has coughed up a 56.8% mark on 2-point field goals; that percentage ranks last in the conference and 341st in NCAA-I.

Against the spread (ATS)

Boston College is 5-1 ATS in its last five road games. FSU is 5-1 ATS in its last six at home. The Eagles are dealing with a lot of injuries, and this game could get into the deep part of both benches for long stretches in the second half.

For the ‘Noles, this game is wedged between a hard-fought loss at UNC and a an impending important road game at Notre Dame. The talented home five may well win this game by 22, but a 17-point win would not be the slightest surprise.

PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The best option for this contest is a wait-and-see on the total. Both teams play a high-tempo game, but if this tag would get a tad higher there would be room for profit in shading the Under.

TAKE THE UNDER 154.5 (-110); look for a total of 156 to find some leverage.

Virginia at Boston College: Three things to know

  1. Virginia polished off Wake Forest 70-61 on Wednesday, but they failed to cover the 14-point number at home. The Cavaliers have alternated covers and non-covers in each of their eight games to date, so a cover is coming here if you believe in those type of trends.
  2. Boston College has dropped eight of 10 games straight up, but they deserve a couple more wins. They lost 83-82 at Duke on Wednesday in a heartbreaker, and they lost by just three at NC State in a road game Dec. 30. They have dropped four games by five points or less.
  3. The Eagles are just 3-5 ATS across the past eight games, but they covered last time out as a 11.5-point underdogs at Duke. They haven’t covered consecutive games since their first two outings of the season, a loss against Villanova and a win over Rhode Island on neutral floors. They are 0-3 ATS on their home floor this season.

Virginia at Boston College: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia 75, Boston College 64

Money line (ML)

Virginia (-450) is a more than likely going to come away from Conte with a road victory, but Boston College (+333) had a near-miss at Duke as huge underdogs, and that should serve as a cautionary tale on why you never risk big money for such a small return. Just look to the spread instead. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

VIRGINIA -8.5 (-110) is a well-disciplined team, and they should grab this road cover whether or not G Casey Morsell (undisclosed) is able to suit up. The Hoos are an impressive 28-12-1 ATS in the previous 41 road games, and the road team has covered in six of the past eight meetings between these schools, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 131.5 (-115) is the play, although Over bets and Virginia basketball is always a risky proposition. They just play such a deliberate style and it’s nerve-wracking getting involved in Overs with UVA.

The Over has connected in seven of the past eight for Boston College, however, and even the sloth-like Cavaliers defense should be able to rack up a healthy number of points against the very giving Eagles.

Boston College at Virginia: Betting odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Boston College +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Virginia -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Boston College +3.5 (-110) | Virginia -3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 55.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Boston College at Virginia: Three things to know

  1. Boston College took down Louisville 34-27 at home as 1-point favorites. Eagles backup QB Dennis Grosel threw 2 pivotal touchdowns in the fourth quarter after replacing an injured QB Phil Jurkovec in the third quarter. Jurkovec is listed as the starter heading into this week’s game vs. the Cavaliers.
  2. Virginia has been on a roll in recent games, winning three straight and covering four in a row. The Cavaliers had last week’s meeting against Florida State canceled due to COVID concerns within the Seminoles and haven’t played since Nov. 21.
  3. Boston College is 6-0 all-time vs. Virginia, but the last time they’ve played was in 2017 (41-10 win by Boston College).

Boston College at Virginia: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia 34, Boston College 27

Money line (ML)

Virginia is the side for me, but its money line is too expensive for me to bet outright. If you wanted to take Virginia’s money line, I’d recommend putting them into a money line parlay with another similarly priced favorite. For this game specifically, I’ll PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

Boston College’s 6-2 record and Clemson narrowly beating them 34-28 as 26-point favorites is skewing the line in my opinion. Virginia’s coach Bronco Mendenhall won 70% of his games while at BYU, and he has the Cavaliers football program trending up.

I get Virginia isn’t a powerhouse program, and they’ve never beaten Boston College, but there’s going to be a lot of pressure on this Eagles passing attack. Virginia is allowing less than 4 yards per rush, and Boston College is ranked 107th in yards per rush. Also, the Eagles haven’t beaten a good team all year.

The Cavaliers will be able to control the tempo of this game and stay on schedule with a rushing attack that’s ranked 44th in yards per game going against a Boston College rush defense that’s ranked 113th in opponents’ yards per game.

Also, this is a spot where we can fade the market: 81% of the money wagered is on Boston College, which has brought it down from Virginia laying a full touchdown to the current number (according to Pregame.com).

The line has moved too much, and I’ll TAKE VIRGINIA -3.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

Virginia’s offense has been better than people recognize and have 44, 31 and 55 over its past three games. The Cavaliers are 6-2 Over/Under this season. Plus Boston College’s passing offense can have success against a Virginia pass defense that is 116th in opponents ‘passing yards per game.

Admittedly, I don’t have a great feel for this total, though, so I’ll just lean OVER 55.5 (-105) for a quarter-unit.

Previewing Saturday’s Louisville Cardinals at Boston College Eagles sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Louisville Cardinals (3-6, 2-6 ACC) visit the Boston College Eagles (5-4, 4-4) Saturday for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Louisville-Boston College college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Louisville at Boston College: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 10:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Louisville -106 (bet $106 to win $100) | Boston College -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Louisville +1 (-110) | Boston College -1 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 55.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Louisville at Boston College: Three things to know

  1. Louisville picked up an impressive 30-0 win over Syracuse last week, covering a 19.5-point number. The Cardinals have struggled overall, but they are 3-1 straight up and ATS as favorites this season. They’re are 0-5 SU/1-3-1 ATS as underdogs.
  2. Boston College was dumped 45-31 at home as a 13-point dog in its most recent game. The Eagles have alternated wins and losses in their past eight games. The good news is they haven’t lost consecutive outings this season.
  3. The Cardinals are 6-21-1 ATS in their past 28 games against teams with a winning record, while going 4-12-1 ATS in their past 17 road games against a team with a winning home mark. The Eagles are 22-8-1 ATS in their past 31 ACC battles, and 5-2-1 ATS in their past eight off a bye.

Louisville at Boston College: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Boston College 24, Louisville 20

Money line (ML)

BOSTON COLLEGE (-115) gets Louisville on its home field, but this one won’t be lopsided. The Cards have already lost six games, but they pitched a shutout last time out against Syracuse, and their pass defense will keep BC QB Phil Jurkovec fairly in check.

Jurkovec separated his shoulder on Halloween at Clemson, but he is expected to be ready after limited throwing and practice this week to ease him back to health. He might be without his favorite target, though, as WR Zay Flowers (shoulder) is a question mark. If he can’t go, the Eagles might run a little more.

Against the spread (ATS)

BOSTON COLLEGE -1 (-110) is 3-2 SU/ATS at home this season. If Jurkovec is healthy this is a completely different team. He has thrown for 2,355 yards with 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions while running for 130 yards and three scores. The Eagles are still talented enough, even if Flowers cannot go, to get by the Cards.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 55.5 (-115) is the best play on the board, as the Eagles might use a more ground-based attack to protect Jurkokec from aggravating his injury. Plus, Louisville is strong against the pass, but very susceptible to the big play via the run. Running keeps the clock moving, and is a friend to Under bettors.

Notre Dame at Boston College: Three things to know

  1. Notre Dame is coming off a 47-40 upset of then-No. 1 Clemson in double overtime at home last Saturday night. After RB Kyren Williams (140 rushing yards, 3 TDs, 23 carries) scored on a 3-yard run on the first possession of the second overtime, DLs Adetokumbo Ogundeji and Daelin Hayes had back-to-back sacks to put Clemson in a 3rd-and-24 hole it couldn’t recover from. QB Ian Book threw for 310 yards and one TD as the Irish won a 13th consecutive game, beat a No. 1 team for the first time since 1993 (Florida State) and snapped an 11-game losing streak to top-five teams. Notre Dame, which was a 5-point underdog, had to drive 91 yards in the final 1:41 to force the overtime.
  2. Boston College, which has alternated wins and losses over the last seven weeks, just beat Syracuse 16-13. QB Phil Jurkovec, who started his career at Notre Dame, threw for 208 yards with a score, PK Aaron Boumerhi made 3 of 5 field-goal attempts, and the defense held the Orange to 240 total yards, including just 52 on the ground. BC lost 34-28 to Clemson the week before after jumping out to a 28-13 halftime lead.
  3. Notre Dame beat Boston College 40-7 a year ago in South Bend, outgaining the Eagles 501-191. Book threw for 239 yards with 3 TDs in that victory, the Irish’s 7th in a row in the series. The Eagles last beat the Irish in 2008 – a 17-0 shutout in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Notre Dame at Boston College: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Notre Dame 35, Boston College 13

Money line (ML)

AVOID. The Irish will no doubt win, but the -527 price is not worth the risk.

Against the spread (ATS)

NOTRE DAME -13.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1.5 times your usual wager. Sure, there could be a letdown after the Clemson thriller, but the Irish will cover Saturday’s two-touchdown spread because of their defense. Notre Dame has allowed 14 or more points just twice this season and it yields just 14.6 points per game this season to rank 12th in the country. As long as the offense scores 30 points, Notre Dame should cover.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 49.5 (-110) is also worth a small play – half your usual wager. Notre Dame owns a 4-3 O/U record, while Boston Collegs is 3-5. The slight fear is if the Irish, who are averaging 36.6 PPG, score too many points.
