Notre Dame’s Blue and Gold game: Which players are intriguing

Which Irish players are you excited to see?

It all goes down on Saturday morning, [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] against Notre Dame. The Blue and Gold draft is over, the team has been split up and at 2 p.m. EDT, the Irish finally get back on the football field.

We get our first glimpse at what the Irish will look like during the 2023 season, but try not to overreact to what we will see. It’s football, but not really.

There are plenty of developments that we want to see over the course of the two hour practice and we have had more than a few previews from John Kennedy about position groups and superlatives to watch for.

Let’s get more specific and check in on some players who we are interested in seeing below.

How to watch the Blue and Gold draft hosted by Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman

The draft is near, not that one, the Blue and Gold draft

The Blue and Gold player draft is back for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] and you can watch it live as the picks are made. Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] will be the commissioner, no shock there, as the team will be split up prior to hitting the field on Saturday afternoon.

You have to wonder how the commish will do, if he will make executive decisions for each team so that the game is as fair as it can be.

For some players it makes the most sense to have them get as many reps as they possibly could, especially the quarterbacks with their wide receivers. Either way you can follow along on Twitter or Facebook with a live steam on the Notre Dame YouTube page.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze proposes an interesting change for spring football

Thoughts?

For all schools across the country, including [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], their spring game is a glorified practice for fans who can’t normally can’t make it to one during the regular season.

As fun as it is to watch the Blue & Gold Game, it’s not quite the football that we have come to love. Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] recently offered up a solution: “allow us to scrimmage someone on A-Day.”

Personally, I love this idea, it makes plenty of sense. Freeze goes on to also suggest that there’s a charitable donation involved as well. His rationale is actually pretty solid, as he says that the NFL and high school football teams do it, so why not colleges?

Protection of players comes into play as well, and Freeze says there would be a 50% reduction risk of injuries along with quarterbacks wearing no-hit jerseys.

Take a listen for yourself as Freeze goes over his idea, which would make the offseason seem that much shorter and help the game in multiple aspects.

Notre Dame lands their first 2024 commitment after Blue vs. Gold game

BOOOOM!!!!

The Irish have done very well on the recruiting trail since Marcus Freeman arrived on campus and it has not changed one bit since he was elevated to the head coaching position. Actually, it has improved, a drastic change in philosophy since the Brian Kelly era.

The Blue vs. Gold game, or any spring game, is a big draw for many prospects and Freeman wanted to take full advantage of the environment. He did exactly that by securing the first class of 2024 commitment in defensive lineman Brandon Davis-Swain. The six-foot-four-inch and 230-pound four-star end from Michigan went to Twitter to make his intentions known.

Davis-Swain had already garnered a lot of interest, holding offers from Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Although early in the process, having that kind of Power-5 interest is extremely impressive. He becomes the first 2024 commit for the Irish as they are now off and running in that cycle.

The culmination of the spring football season is upon us, the Blue and Gold game is set to be on our screens and for some of us, in the stands of Notre Dame Stadium. For the most part all the work these players have put in has been behind the scenes, but now, they emerge from the shadows of Irish Athletic Complex and give us a sneak peak of what’s to come this fall. Here are five outcomes we’d love to see come out of the spring.

Dates and times for spring games that interest Notre Dame

New coaches and potential stars will be previewed this spring

For many teams spring practice has already commenced and it’s typically a preview of what is to come in the fall. Position battles are typically won during this time, not necessarily during fall camp. Players will show their improvements without the weekly game plans going into effect, the coaches are able to break down each one of their practices much more meticulously. It’s not just about the Blue and Gold game for Notre Dame, on April 23rd at 1pm EST, it’s about what their opponents will do as well. Here is a list of their notable 2022 opponents and their spring game times and networks. (BYU would be on this list but due to a lack of linemen, they will not have a spring game.)
