Four-star point guard lists LSU in his top-six

The Tigers have made an impression on one of the top prospects in 2024.

[autotag]John Mobley Jr.[/autotag] is a 2024 four-star, 6-foot, 150-pound point guard from Las Vegas where he plays for Bishop Gorman High School. On Tuesday, he released a top six that included the Tigers

Mobley currently has no Crystal Ball projections per 247, but Creighton and Ohio State lead the way according to On3. LSU basketball coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] currently doesn’t have any commitments for the 2024 class and only has one for the 2023 class.

Mobley was offered by LSU on July 14, and the new head coach has been hard at work trying to get him to take his talents to the Bayou. He will for sure be a guy to watch for the next two seasons before he finally signs his letter of intent to play at the next level.

Official practice for the 2022 basketball season started Sept. 28 as the Tigers get ready to take on Kansas City on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

NFHS Network Quick Hit: Bishop Gorman’s DeVon Rice takes it to the house

To the house!

Las Vegas power Bishop Gorman has rebounded rather well after a tough Week 2 loss to top-ranked Mater Dei (Calif.), with the team now securely back inside the top 10 of the USA TODAY Sports Super 25.

And rebounded might be putting it mildly, as the Gaels have pummeled teams as of late, a three-game run where they scored 178 points while allowing zero.

Six of those pints came from junior running back DeVon Rice, who showed off a video-game-level speed burst against Arbor View (Nev.) last week.

The NFHS Network was on the call for the 70-plus yard scamper and score.

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to class of 2025 offensive tackle recruit Douglas Utu.

The Bulldogs are hardly the first college football program to have interest in the sophomore offensive lineman. Utu already has scholarship offers from Michigan, Colorado, Hawaii, Utah, Miami Nebraska and others.

Utu plays high school football for Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bishop Gorman is one of the top high school football programs in the country. Georgia has a commitment from one of Utu’s high school teammates, Justyn Rhett. Rhett is ranked as one of the top players in the class of 2023.

Utu is ranked as the No. 47 recruit in the class of 2025. The Bishop Gorman standout is the No. 3 offensive tackle and is the top-ranked player in Nevada in his class.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive tackle has a dozen scholarship offers. Utu has solid footwork and will continue to add to his frame throughout the remainder of his high school career.

The four-star offensive tackle announced his scholarship offer from the University of Georgia via Twitter:

National shakeup: Bishop Gorman crushes Corner Canyon in battle of powerhouse teams

High School Football: Bishop Gorman crushes Corner Canyon

In their first game of the season, Corner Canyon (Utah) rolled over Herriman (Utah) and quarterback Isaac Wilson threw for 450 yards and six touchdowns en route to an easy 45-7 victory. This past Friday, however, it was a different story for the Chargers as they faced a superior opponent.

Visiting national powerhouse Bishop Gorman (Nev.), the dynamic was flipped and they were dominated by a score of 42-7. This time around, Wilson only managed to complete 8 of 18 passes for 67 yards, one score and two interceptions.

On the other side, lefty junior quarterback Micah Alejado got off to a hot start, completing his first 11 passing attempts. In the end, he threw three touchdown passes and ran for another.

His last score was a 43-yard bomb to Dylan Herman in the middle of the third quarter.

Defensively, senior cornerback Elijah Palmer led the way for Bishop Gorman with a pick-six. The other pick came courtesy of Jeremiah Hughes.

Next up, Corner Canyon will visit Bingham (Utah), while Bishop Gorman hosts the top-ranked team in the country, Mater Dei (Calif.).

Future Trojan Zachariah Branch of Bishop Gorman debuts on All-America team

USC is definitely Branching out in recruiting.

Zachariah Branch of Bishop Gorman High School (Nevada) debuted on Max Preps’ First Team All-America roster for the 2022 season. The five-star prospect finished his junior season at Bishop Gorman with 1,094 yards (22.7 yards per catch) and 14 touchdowns on 48 receptions.

The 2021 Max Preps Player of the Year in Nevada, in both football and track and field, had over 1,000 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns while leading the powerhouse Bishop Gorman Gaels to their 18th state title in school history.

Branch is a monster addition to Lincoln Riley’s first full recruiting class in Los Angeles, which is quickly shaping up as one of the best in the nation. Branch is joined by future teammate Makai Lemon as a Max Preps First-Team All-American.

Fun fact: His brother Zion Branch, who is a freshman at USC, signed with the Trojans last season. He was a four-star recruit and the defensive player of the year in the state of Nevada.

BREAKING: 2023 defensive back Jeremiah Hughes commits to LSU

LSU stayed hot on the recruiting trail with the addition of a three-star corner on Thursday night.

LSU’s hot streak on the recruiting trail continued on Thursday.

[autotag]Jeremiah Hughes[/autotag], a three-star cornerback from Las Vegas announced his commitment to LSU. He chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Utah and TCU.

Hughes is LSU’s third cornerback commit in the 2023 class. He joins four-star [autotag]Daylen Austin[/autotag] and three-star [autotag]Ashton Stamps[/autotag].

He continues LSU’s success on the national trail. Bishop Gorman is a Catholic school that [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] likely had a relationship with from his time at Notre Dame.

The consensus rankings have Hughes as a three-star, but ESPN has him as a four-star. His’ recruitment didn’t take off until recently, and we could see him continue to rise in the rankings in the coming month as he continues to focus more on defense.

This also bodes well for LSU cornerbacks coach [autotag]Robert Steeples[/autotag]’ recruiting ability. Steeples is new to the college ranks and could still be getting his feet under him on the recruiting trail.

Tigers offer 2025 interior offensive lineman from Vegas

SJ Alofaituli could become one of the top offensive line prospects in his class.

Talk about looking into the future.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] recently offered a kid that is going into his sophomore year of high school. [autotag]SJ Alofaituli[/autotag] is a 6-foot-3, 270-pound interior offensive lineman from Las Vegas where he plays for Bishop Gorman High School. Georgia is the only other SEC school to put its name in the hat for Alofaituli.

Film Analysis: To start as a freshman on a nationally ranked football team, you have to be really good. After watching the first two minutes of Alofaituli’s film, I can confirm that he is, in fact, very good.

This kid’s fundamentals are off the charts. His footwork, his hand placement, and his ability to get to the next level are all about as good as it gets. I can see why he already holds a lot of Division I offers and it would not surprise me if he winds up as the No. 1 offensive lineman in his class.

LSU Wire breaks down his profile.

Former Notre Dame commit to join reigning champs

Who is the biggest remaining uncommitted defensive player in the 2023 class that Notre Dame must ultimately land?

Former Notre Dame commitment [autotag]Justyn Rhett[/autotag] appeared to be the next great safety headed to play for the Irish but that all changed a couple weeks back when he announced he was withdrawing his commitment.  It didn’t take long for Rhett to announce his new intentions as he did so Monday, stating that he now plans to attend Georgia.

Rhett, a four-star safety from [autotag]Bishop Gorman[/autotag] in Las Vegas, is ranked as the 107th player in the 2023 recruiting cycle by 247Sports.  Rhett’s flip from Notre Dame to Georgia made an impact as the Bulldogs currently rank third in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings for 2023, behind the Irish at one and [autotag]Texas Tech[/autotag] at two.  It should be noted that Texas Tech’s 19 commitments are as many as Notre Dame and Georgia combine to have, but that only four of those 19 have a four-star rating even.

All the best to Rhett at Georgia.  Hopefully he’ll get a chance to take on the Irish down the road in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag].
