Big Ten quarterbacks ranked by Total QBR heading into Week 3: How does Noah Kim compare to other Big Ten quarterbacks?

How does Noah Kim compare to other Big Ten QBs in terms of Total QBR?

After a summer of uncertainty, Noah Kim is now solidified as the starter for Michigan State football, and has even earned himself the honor of being named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since taking over the starting role.

But how does Kim compare to other quarterbacks in the Big Ten, which has been a strong conference for the position of late. ESPN uses Total QBR to rank quarterbacks, which is a system that ‘values the quarterback on all play types on a 0-100 scale adjusted for the strength of opposing defenses faced.’

Below, you can see how Noah Kim stacks up to the other quarterbacks in the conference heading into a huge match-up against Washington.

Ranking Big Ten quarterbacks by Total QBR through Week 8

An updated look at what quarterbacks are leading the Big Ten in Total QBR through Week 8. #B1G

The Big Ten football season is about half the way over, and it’s time for us to check in on which conference quarterbacks are doing the best at their position, including Ohio State football’s C.J. Stroud.

The metric we like to use more than any other is ESPN’s Total QBR rating. We find it to be a better indicator of performance because it takes into account many aspects others don’t, including the level of competition.

According to ESPN, Adjusted Total Quarterback Rating “values the quarterback on all play types on a 0-100 scale adjusted for the strength of opposing defenses faced.”

OK. we’re game.

So where are Stroud and other Big Ten signal-callers following Week 8 of the college football season? Here’s a ranking of the top 14 based on quarterbacks that play an average of 20 action plays per game.

Which Big Ten quarterback do you think is leading the Big Ten in total QBR through two full weeks of play? You might be surprised. #GoBucks #B1G

College football is a quarterback-driven game and has been for a long time now. Gone are the days of being a game manager with handoffs and short passes when needed. It hasn’t been that way for a long, long time now.

You simply can’t go special places anymore without having a dynamic player under center and Ohio State has a good one in C.J. Stroud.

However, he’s not the only good quarterback in the Big Ten. Though Stroud is one of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy, there are still other signal-callers in the league that can spin it when called upon.

One of the best metrics we like to look at when it comes to a quarterback’s performance is Total QBR, and we’re going to take a look at it each week upon the completion of games. Where is Stroud after this week? What about other quarterbacks in the league? You might be surprised, especially after OSU has yet to really get cookin’ totally on offense.
