There were only 10 teams in action this week across the Big Ten, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of movement in our weekly power rankings.

Michigan State, Iowa and Michigan each picked up big-time victories, and because of that they all joined Ohio State at the top of the league. Of those four teams, who should be at the top of the list? Check out where I rank each of the Big Ten teams to see who I believe are the best squads across the league:

We learned a lot this week when it comes to who’s for real and who’s not in the Big Ten.

There were numerous big-time matchups across the Big Ten this weekend, and in those, we were able to determine which teams we can truly buy into — such as Michigan, Iowa and maybe even Nebraska — and who appear to be frauds — looking at you Maryland, Rutgers and Wisconsin. With that being said, it’s safe to say there was a ton of movement in this week’s updated power rankings.

It was a great weekend for some teams, but also a miserable weekend for some too. That includes Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The two rivals that battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe both had troubling losses this weekend and both dropped in this week’s power rankings. Most of the league stayed in the same spot otherwise.

The Big Ten is once again proving why it’s one of the best conferences in college football, with the league flexing their muscles on Saturday.

Michigan State, Penn State and Minnesota each picked up wins over non-conference power five foes, while Michigan, Ohio State and Iowa each took care of business in easier match-ups. However, it wasn’t all good for the league with Indiana and Nebraska losing to ranked opponents this past weekend.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 2, change at the top?

We’ve had to reshuffle our Big Ten football power rankings based on what we say after Week 2? Is there a new team on top?

Well then.

Ohio State got beat by an Oregon team we all thought it would handle, and now it’s time to pick up the pieces and move forward. Despite the gut punch it feels like, there’s still plenty to play for, and there’s talent on the team to still make this a memorable season.

However, with what we saw in Week 2 of Big Ten play, there’s no doubt it will shuffle up the Big Ten power rankings we do every week. It’s still a little too early to go all knee-jerk, but we can’t ignore what we’ve seen through two, sometimes three games for each team.

This of course is fluid and will all change, but here’s how things look in our new, updated Big Ten football power rankings.

Big Ten Power Rankings for Week 3: Right on Penn State, Ohio State falls

A second full week of college football has Penn State atop the Big Ten, Ohio State falling, Rutgers football in the middle, and Nebraska, not the worst team.

With a loss this weekend at home to Oregon, the entire Big Ten is turned upside down for everyone’s conference power rankings.

Well, except for us. Do you hear that noise? Good. It is us patting ourselves on the back. For one week at least.

Last week, the good folks over at RutgersWire (hey, that’s us!) had Penn State as the top team in the Big Ten after the Nittany Lions impressive win at Wisconsin to start the season. Nothing changes…for at least this week.

Penn State is the best team in the Big Ten right now, not letting up at all this past weekend with a thorough win over Ball State at home. A real test comes on Saturday when 2-0 Auburn comes to town. The Tigers are No. 20 in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll released this past Sunday.

Brendan Quinn of The Athletic believes the Spartans will again be near the top of the Big Ten next season.

Brendan Quinn of The Athletic believes the Spartans will again be near the top of the Big Ten next season.

Quinn released his early summer Big Ten power rankings on Monday, which have the Spartans fairing better than this past season. Quinn pegged Michigan State as the fifth-best team in the league, only behind Michigan, Purdue, Maryland and Ohio State.

Here is the complete power rankings breakdown from Quinn — with link to the complete article as well:

Quinn’s Big Ten power rankings seem about spot on with everything else I’ve seen so far this off-season. At least as far as the top of the league goes, and where Michigan State lands.

Way-too-early power rankings for the 2021 Big Ten football season

With the 2020 Big Ten football season now over with Ohio State on top, we are ranking the conference’s teams heading into 2021.

The 2020 Big Ten schedule has finally reached its end after what has been an absolute roller coaster ride of a season.

The season was originally postponed back in August, it was then reinstated, numerous games were canceled due to COVID-19 and if that wasn’t enough, the Big Ten Championship wasn’t even the last conference game played.

Hopefully, for the sake of everybody involved, the 2021 calendar year is a bit different and things return to normal by the time the Big Ten starts up again in early September.

One of the necessities of closing a football season is giving a way-too-early look at the year to come, and rank teams based on what we saw this season and we know going into next year.

In order to do this, I put together a ranking system jokingly named Ken(ney)Pom—with reference to the college basketball ranking site KenPom. My metric weighs each team’s returning/incoming production, quarterback play, coaching and 2020 success in order to compare the teams numerically and understand why they are slotted in the spot they’re in.

Necessary disclaimer: the teams are ranked below based on who has discussed returning for another season and they are subject to change as more players enter the NFL Draft, return to play an extra year and as transfers find their homes.

So this is not a sure-fire shot at who will win the conference next season, because so much will change between now and September. It is instead a look at where things stand right now–the week after the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Michigan climbs up in Big Ten Week 6 Power Rankings after defeating Rutgers

Michigan football snapped its three-game losing streak last week and moves up the Big Ten power rankings. How high do the Wolverines jump?

[jwplayer xnLp9XvK-XNcErKyb]

Last week the Big Ten had its most impactful games of the season as the top two teams in each division, all four of them being undefeated, battled to take control and lead the charge to Indianapolis to play in the conference championship game next month. We also saw another cancelation for Maryland, this week losing out on playing the Michigan State Spartans.

It snapped its three-game losing streak when it comes to Michigan football, defeating Rutgers in triple-overtime 48-42 as the Wolverines had to bring in their backup quarterback to get the offense moving down the field against the Scarlet Knights. Michigan showed life in a season that has taken a turn for the worst and has a chance this week to get back to .500.

With the mixed results from last week’s games, we ended up seeing some changes inside this edition of the Big Ten power rankings. The top four have a little shuffle, but there are more significant changes among the conference outside of those. Check out where the Wolverines moved after getting a win this week in the updated rankings below.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 4 of conference play

We’re getting ready to head into another weekend of Big Ten football, but first, we have our up to date power rankings after week four.

Big Ten football is chugging right along, and we’ve now seen four weeks of action (though some have had unscheduled bye weeks). What we thought we knew going into the very delayed season thanks to the coronavirus pandemic has changed substantially from the start of the 2020 conference campaign.

The fourth week of play reminded us that the league is in a bit of an upside-down year. Indiana leads the Big Ten East while Michigan and Penn State sit at or near the bottom. In the West, Northwestern and Purdue are looking good (along with Wisconsin), while Minnesota seems to have bottomed out.

It’s all been a crazy year and a zany football season. It makes you wonder what this week will hold. Let’s hope the wackiness doesn’t hit the Horseshoe this Saturday.

Regardless, it’s not holding us back here at Buckeyes Wire. Each week we take a look at the pecking order in the conference, and here’s how we see it after another week. It’s our Week 4 Big Ten football Power Rankings.
